If this is finished in 2026, I'll be amazed. But if it were, what a great European trip. Notre Dame should be fully finished in the same year. I visited this Cathedral in 1990 and nobody predicted it would be finished within my lifetime.
It will not be. Covid delays. Now they plan for 2040
The video's wrong. What is planned to finish on 2026 is the central, tallest spire. The church as a whole is predicted for 2032 (and that's optimistic)

Was in Barcelona in 1977 for a day visit, while living in Milano. And was greatly blessed to be able to tour the major basilicas in Italy, Switzerland, Ausria, W and E Germany, France, and England.
All those inspired me to major in Art History and Architectire at the University of Houston.
I think the whole building looks Gaudi - in a good way.
The church is not completed because the cost of the works should be only covered by the donations of the parishioners. The civil people. Any government or enterprise huge donation is admited.
That's why it is called "an expiatory temple"

The video is kinda wrong, they predict that the central spire will be finished in 2026, we won't see the whole thing finished until at least the next decade.
Visited it yesterday, I’m still in awe. What an amazing project. It makes the world a better place.
I was just there this past week and I think they have 5 guys working on the building... and they did look like they were in a rush

The Sagrada Familia is notable for Its size and design, not the time of construction. Also, older cathedrals obviously took more time to make, as they had less technological advancements compared to now.

Why Saint Joseph is not included
He is included in other elements of the Cathedral, but no on the spires, in fact there is a big door dedicated to St. Joseph in the side Gaudí finished before dying.

This iconic edifice along with millions of man made obsessions in short ordertaken will be consumed by fire by Almighty God.I wonder how many stomaches are filled, kids bodies warmed,prescription filled, pavement exchanged for a warm bed ,tears wiped.I wonder are the homeless and hungry proud and honored to gaze upon such a marvel from underneath a bridge or peeping out from the cardboard 📦 used for warmth? I wonder which of the two touches The Heart of God?
It is as if the community there doesn't need communal space dedicated for religion, you think everyone want to bulldoze building new kind of Kowloon Wall City? Even they have a preserved complex in the middle for that sake of purpose despite being insanely dense. Yes, those money can be used to build more home, but do you think building those would be kept going infinitely like what happened in China at the end causing the worst housing bubble in financial history ever? 4 billion housing units but still yet able to solve housing price crisis, many people still being homeless because not all place can be built residential complex over and over. Also for ensuring residential area in urban area to not feeling lifeless needs things like this as communal place where people can gather to socialize, not just cooping down as hikikomori, unlike you doing that at Starbucks.
