      It IS weird how a rubber-to-metal interface can make so much noise, but it does. It's not all of them, either. I guess the fit has to be "just right" for the noise to occur.

    Thank you SO much for these. I am going to try and fix my own sunroof, and I’ll do this sealer from now on too. Really, you are a life saver. $3k repairs is completely undoable for most people. I’ll let you know how it goes. Other videos have you remove the whole headliner! I didn’t watch past that. The dealership said the cables need to be replaced too, and the whole assembly is $2800+ labor. I’ll try just the arms first. Although I can’t put it in vent. My buttons don’t even do anything since it jammed. Thanks again!

    • @SealofPerfection
      @SealofPerfection  Před 4 lety

      Some dealers will only do the arm replacement under warranty, and if it's out of warranty they will only replace the entire track.
      I kind of get it...Whenever the arms have failed, it's always possible that the incident has also hurt the track, too. Or might lead to track failure later on.
      And they don't want the customer back there in 5 months yelling at them because they now definitely need a new track and they wasted money on the arms.
      So I always tell my customers that this works nearly all the time, and I try and catch any lower track breakage at the time, and just stop with the arms and tell them they need the whole thing.
      But I understand why dealers do that when it's customer pay and not warranty...it's covering their butt, too....there's such a huge difference in price, though that I'd just give the customers the options and let them choose.

    • @SealofPerfection
      @SealofPerfection  Před 4 lety

      All that aside, you have to get it vented to do the repair. If it's mostly shut, you can still remove the front glass, and then you should be able to find the broken pieces that are stopping the movement and get it vented.

    I used the exact products you described and it worked perfectly. I had thought this rattle was coming from the passenger door after Ford called the vehicle back and fixed the door latch that was part of a Safety Recall. They adjusted the latch and told me the rattle was in the sunroof and to fix it would be anywhere from 200 to possibly over 2,000. I was going to just let it rattle until I ran across this video. Thank you for posting the information. I used a small putty knife and it worked great on the rear panel. So far no more rattles! I will drive to NC if I ever need a sun roof repair! You obviously know what you are doing! Is there anything to lubricate on the shade that opens and closes separate from the glass? It creeks and groans when it opens and closes? Thanks again!

    • @SealofPerfection
      @SealofPerfection  Před 3 lety +1

      Unfortunately the shade noise usually comes from the "scroll" that it rolls up on. It has some kind of spring inside it that makes noise. Only solution I've seen is to replace it.

      Depends on what you use, I guess. The heavier body lube you use, the longer it'll last, most likely.
      I've used Liquid Wrench Chain lube and it's done pretty well. Ideally, you'd use a grease and not a liquid, but it's a lot harder to get in there. I've done a bunch of these and only ever seen 2 of them again.

    • @SealofPerfection
      @SealofPerfection  Před 3 lety +1

      Depends on the knife. Mine is very dull, no chance of cutting it. Also depends on the glass. Some I've seen even a card won't get in there, too thick. Others, it would work fine.
      Some are just really tight. That's just what I use, anything that will slip between the rubber and the roof and you don't care if it gets the lube on it will work
