      Rob Bobcat I thought he or she would be thinner too. So when I see one in the wilderness, can't' really tell if it is well fed or really hungry. Yikes. Met a mom and a little cub once, but they were just on the trail ahead of me sniffing around, got some water and came back, jumped around on a fallen log. I managed to get some pictures while keeping an eye out for any other cubs, and trying to make sure the other 9 people in my hiking party didn't scare them away.

      Someone in a bear sanctuary recently told us that bears don't actually loose very much (if any) weight during the hibernation. They only loose a lot after they woke up because food is hard to come by in spring. And it takes a while until they find enough to maintain their weight.

    • @AnniundLilo
      @AnniundLilo Před 4 lety

      Also apparently the hibernation i's not a totally deep sleep. They wake up every day for some hours to stretch and go back to sleep. Very interesting

    • @srvntlilly
      @srvntlilly Před rokem

      I thought of that, too. But they also don't hibernate as long as brown bears in much colder climates. They start denning in October and don't come out till spring. That's gives them more time to lose fat.

    I found this video very interesting and I learned a lot. Thank you for posting. I've never hunted black bears and have only seen a handful of them while deer hunting. They truly are beautiful creatures. Thanks again for the lovely video 😘.

      It's so weird, how different life for wild animals is to ours. The bear's born, fights to survive, maybe has cubs of it's own, and dies. No more, no less.

      @@mfitzburger5137 only difference is there isn't a council of fat lazy bears that come and take a piece of every meal he finds and tells him that's so they can feed him when he's old. Then when he gets old he finds out 'feeding him' means a small crust of bread once a month...
