Very tough actors endure very cold temperatures and climbing mountains and down, not easy as it seems as it a skier I know. All must be professional level skiers! Well done all!

Roger Corman had a cameo in this as German Soldier Entering Cabin.
Wally Campo, who played Pvt. Ed Ciccola, portrayed Sgt. Joe Fink and narrated Corman's "The Little Shop of Horrors." He passed away on January 14 of 2023 at nearly 100 years old. It says causes were "undisclosed." You'd think that dying at 100 would fall under 'natural causes.' I'll assume that he "died suddenly" of "global warming"

I thought I recognized the Lieutenant, played by Michael Forest. He was in the original Star Trek episode of : Who Mourns For Adonis? Michael played Adonis.
This movie was actually filmed in the Winter and lots of snow. It sure looked to me like the actors did their own skiing.
Ski teams were hired from Lead and Deadwood High Schools for the battle scenes and those scenes had to be filmed on weekends so the kids would be out of school. They had cast a German ski instructor to play the head of the German ski troop, but the instructor broke his leg two days before the shoot. So the director Roger Corman played that role himself.
They filmed the majority of the ski scenes at my local ski resort Terry Peak. I could point out several different spots in the film i still recognize today. It was filmed over the span of 10 days with a small crew and budget.
They also filmed the movie "Beast of Haunted Cave" at the same time and location to justify the expense of traveling to Deadwood. That movie also stars Michael Forest. Between filming both movies they spent 5 weeks in Deadwood and Michael Forest was paid $500 a week, which i suppose wasnt too bad back then.

To think, when this was done, it was a mere 15 years that the real war ended
Hollywood has always been quick to make war movies.. going off of the reception of this film at the time it was released; WWII movies were already overdone and played out. Movie critics of the time were especially harsh saying, "any attempts at deeper meaning or characterization ends in cliches flying thick and fast".. great movie nonetheless but that review certainly indicates it wasnt anything the viewers hadnt seen before, many many times.. Chaplin made "The Great Dictator" mocking Hitler during the war. Several other films were made fictionalizing the war prior to America becoming involved. For example, "Casablanca", widely regarded as one of the best films of all time, is set in Nazi Germany and was made in 1941. If you look up WWII films its mind-blowing how many were made while the war was ongoing, right after it ended and consistently through the following decades.. there were likely several thousand WWII related films released prior to this one.
I like how they build their own stairs in the snow.

Many Americans came from mountainous areas and were skiers, hence the 10th Mountain Division

Look on the upper right of this video’s thumbnail. See those three symbols? You want the first one, the one that looks like a rectangle with some semi-circles in its corner, almost looking like pond ripples. That’ll cast the video to your tv. (Or any other video, for that matter. The symbol will be the same.)
Or, if your tv is too old for that kind of technology, like mine is, you can buy a phone-to-HDMI adapter and have to use cables. In my case that means the adapter plugged into the phone, and then an HDMI cable that goes from the adapter to the tv. If you’re going with the cable route, be sure to turn the “auto-lock” setting on your phone off! Oh, and before you go to a store or shop online for an adapter, please find out what kind of usb port your phone has in the first place! An android phone uses a different shape of cable than an apple phone, for example. Easiest thing to do for yourself and for the people at the store is to just bring your phone with you so they can give it a once-over. Signed, former employee of the electronics department at Target who had to deal with the “which usb type?” issue every day. 😜

Since when did the Ardenne forest 'grow' mountains?
Well, they started off in the Ardenne, near Bastogne, but then the snow started to melt which kind of spoiled the title of the film so they moved on a bit - to somewhere in the Alps! Perhaps even Adolfs mountain lair?

Don't know why I find it so irritating when directors/editors have no sense of spacial awareness or sense of physical direction. This movie starts out right at the top with confused orientation.
