I've done military service, have worked hard, and paid taxes, all my life.
I'm retired now, still paying taxes, and cannot get an operation for my knees, despite being in extreme pain, and very bad mobility.
Yet fit young ILLEGAL immigrants get first class medical services - who actually come to THEM.

I live in the US, but speak with my cousin in Surrey at least once a week. Recently, his 80 yr old wife fell in their garden and broke both bones in her forearm. This elderly woman waited three weeks to see an orthopedic consultant. Thankfully, my cousin knew to immobilize her arm immediately after her accident and the consultant didn’t have to re-break her healing fractures. Had this happened to me, I would have driven 3 miles to the local hospital emergency room and been treated within an hour. There’s something to be said for a healthcare system in which providers have to compete for our business.

BTW, my family and I were treated in a NHS emergency room in 1999 and received excellent care. My mother spent 10 days in a NHS ICU at this time and received excellent care. Just shows how much the NHS has deteriorated in the last 25 years.

In Mexico this week, I mentioned to a cook at a restaurant that I hadn't seen him for a while. He told me he had felt a strong pain in his stomach while at work and went to a private hospital where it was identified as appendicitis. He was told he would have to pay 130,000 pesos for the operation. Unable to pay that amount, he went to a public IMSS hospital where he was told he would have to pay even more for the operation, as he was not registered (not paying social security). His employer contacted his accountant, who went online and registered him as a legal employee. An hour later, his appendix was removed at no cost. He's a young guy, but without that last-minute intervention, he would have died.

I have to disagree about the criticism of the NHS. My wife recently, whilst on holiday in Mexico slipped on wet tiles and had a head wound and a broken wrist. The local hospital charged us $5000 to patch up and then wanted $35000 for an operation which they said was needed immediately. UK doctors via our insurance company did not agree and we were shipped back to the UK. LEEDS general infirmary were brilliant as was the orthopaedic clinic afterwards. My wife has not needed an operation and is on the mend. Overseas it was all about give us the money and we will treat you. As a 65year old was shocked at this approach and so grateful for the NHS.

If they can afford the exorbitant prices charged by traffickers, how about paying for their hotel b n b, evening meal extra. Also pay for their asylum application.
And if they havent enough for that, and to keep their minds and bodies nimble, dismantle white goods and other electricals / phones and recover precious metals / componentstlo and save the planet. Surely a win win 😮

The attention span of caregivers of the younger generation is poor. Work ethic is dying and expectation of big money is high. There are many caring people still but my experience with young generation is they aren’t thorough-a lick and a miss and on to something else.
