In this Audacity tutorial you will learn how to match the beats of two songs in Audacity. This is great for remix, mashup and making mix tapes.
    / buckydurddle
    www.andrewmerce...
Beat matching is very simple. For this tutorial I will focus on meat matching to create a mix tape. We will match beats at the end of one song and the beginning of a second. This way when a song comes to an end it will gently start the new song.
First choose two songs that have similar tempos. Use a metronome to help with this. If you don't have a metronome you can download a free one online. Just do a Google search for metronome.
When you find two songs with similar tempos drag and drop them into Audacity. Use SOLO on the left tab of each track to listen to each song. Try and find the place you would like the first song to end. Make note of this. Find where you would like the second song to start. Make note of that.
Use your TIME SHIFT TOOL to slide the second song to the right to roughly where you want it.
Place your cursor at roughly where the overlap of sons will be. Next use your magnification tool to zoom in on that point.
Make note of the thick pulses of your songs. These are the beats. You will need to line up these beats. Now use your TIME SHIFT TOOL to line up the beats. This is where you have to use your ears. Move the song back and forth until you find a nice match. You WILL make them fit, it just may take a couple of tries. Be patience.
Once you have found the sweet spot Save your work. That is it.
    Good luck,
    Andrew

You're not matching the beats! You're simply synchronising them.
    Matching tempo requires different stuff.

dude if your planning on mixing 2 tracks you gota get the beat to match as close as possible depending on how long they are going to be mixing and playing at the same time, most mixes would atleast match songs for a good few seconds and if they dont totally match it will end up sounding shocking.

    Hi Yoko,
This process works better on some songs than on others. If you don't mind experimenting you could try playing the Equalization effect to boost the beats before to do your Remove Vocals. Just a thought, it may or may not work. There are other awesome tutorials in my Video Guide to Audacity. Buy it on my website MakeAndBreakEducation (link in the video description)

Disappointed. I wanted (and thought this video was about) to learn how to match the BPM, it's not, this is about just putting two tracks together so you can almost "glue it" together without interruption, but they don't even play together a whole phrase. It started pretty great though. Thank you for your video. I'll keep my search on how to match the bpm's on audacity.

I have one more doubt, how to match a tone with the song i sing?
because i have tried its so hard to match the tempos of both the sound and the singing .
simply, how to match the tempos or beats to singing ? like we do karaoke and sing behind it to match our voice, how to do it in editing ?

Hey Andrew, what if I have the same song recorded at different tempos. One slow version and one faster version. They are exactly the same words and chord changes but at a different speed. How can I line them up. One song has better vocals and the other has the addition of a mandolin. I want to join the two. I believe it will raise the frequency on one but I think they are close enough where it will actually make it sound even better. Any suggestions about matching the tempo's?

Andrew, in Audacity, my MP3 song has uneven tempo. My daughter recorded herself playing it on a keyboard. Slows up a bit, speeds up a bit? I added a percussion track with perfectly even tempo. BPM are accurate between the two tracks. Roughly 152 BPM . Is there a way to even out the song's tempo to match the percussion track? To make the song even at 152 BPM throughout its playing time? Thanks for any help!

    • @SynthApprentice
      @SynthApprentice Před 7 lety

Captain Bob yes, it's theoretically possible, but it's a huge pain. Your best option is to start with the percussion track, and then use that to keep the keyboard track on tempo. If re-recording the keyboard isn't an option, you're going to have to go in and manually slow down the fast sections and speed up the slow sections. Like I said, it's possible, but "fix it in the mix" is rarely the right solution.

      Thanks Rionaldo,
If you are new to Audacity and want to learn to make nice recordings then you need to get my Video Guide to Audacity on my site MakeAndBreakEducation(link in the video description). Lots more to learn in there :) Cheers, Andrew

so far as all the vids I have seen, this one is the most useful to me. I have been suffering trying to shorten a piece of music from 6 minutes to 90 secs for a skating routine. not knowing a hoot about audacity, i keep cutting and pasting breaks that sound like a broken record. now I can try this beat matching instead!
