- This is the third & final video of our wonderful 5 day stay in BRAGA in the north of Portugal. We had such a great time wandering around and exploring this beautiful city.
Video 1: Braga First Impressions
Video 2: Bom Jesus and Sameiro
In this video we go to:
Museu dos Biscainhos
18th century library
Go back to Braga Shopping for budget meals
Eat the famous sandwich of the north, the Francesinha
Sit and relax in Jardim de Santa Barbara
Find a post office to buy stamps and send postcards to NZ & the UK
and admire many of the beautiful buildings to be found in this gorgeous city
We would definitely recommend visiting Braga if you are planning a trip to Portugal, and we would love to return as only scratched the surface!
Next stop... Coimbra :))

Hello fellow Frugal Travellers! You know our way of travelling... wandering around amazing places and showing a different side of things! In this video we see some beautiful public parks and gardens, gorgeous architecture and get a feel for the chilled atmosphere of Braga. We also reference a fellow CZcamsr, Imo from @The Life of Imo 😀😁 Let us know what you think... you know we always love to hear from you!
Incredible value for a delicious lunch!🤗
We totally agree, Jun! We're so pleased we got the recommendation for Braga Shopping from one of the lovely people at our guesthouse... Edna's Arretados is such a brilliant place for delicious and inexpensive food! ~ Mandy
You should visit 3 beautiful towns that are relatively close to Braga, Ponte de Lima, Ponte da Barca and Arcos de Valdevez
@@alvafaleiro Thank you so much for your brilliant recommendations! We would love to return to the north and explore more, so we really appreciate your suggestions! ~ Mandy
Quick question I watch a lot of your travels throughout Portugal. Of all the towns north and south where would you choose to reside and why?
Braga😊 has some gorgeous architecture! Definitely worth checking out.
I agree! Braga is lovely and well worth spending a few days there. We had a wonderful time walking to Bom Jesus do Monte:

كنتم في غايه اللطف في فديو جميل من مدينه جميله شكرا لكم 🥰
We are happy that you enjoyed this video 😀😁
Wow, Braga is so beautiful!! So sad we missed it during our road trip. That Library was amazing with the tile work on the inside. Looks like you had lovely weather for strolling through those beautiful gardens. Thank you sharing the beauty of Braga with us, we will definitely be making a stop there the next time we are in Portugal! Your friends, Debbie and Stijn
Braga is beautiful, and I know you two would have loved the hike up to Bom Jesus and Sameiro! Definitely add Braga to your next Portugal road trip... you'll have a great time! Lovely to hear from you as always, our first real life CZcams friends 😀😁 ~ Mandy
Once again Mandy and Lee well done. I have watched many vlogs on Braga and read trip reports, but I find that you take it to another level. You show people the things they will be seeing and passing by. You provide prices and your opinion. It is not about instagramable spots and flowery dresses or the biggest and best or most expensive. It is about real life. You also slow travel like we do, so we were interested to know that you spent five days in Braga. Most people do it as a day trip and I was planning at least three days! I love the Magnolia flower. Yes, what a beautiful perfume - vanilla iceream. I missed the name of the shopping centre you ate at. Could you post the name? No one else has mentioned it - well done. I guess POs around the world are diminishing, like banks. Even though you may not go into every historic building or museum, you always provide some interesting and essential information. You have shown me more about Braga than any other vlog or trip report. Just remember that the masks block some of your words so wherever possible remove them just to make your comments. I guess the Libraries also have free toilets:) . I think ill leave the Francesinha alone.
Thank you so much for your very kind comment, Christine! It is so wonderful to hear that you find our videos so informative! The shopping centre is called Braga Shopping, and is a great place to go for a good value lunch menu, and is always full of locals. We love wandering around new places and seeing new sights. We don't go into many museums anymore as have been to hundreds and remember very little from them. Thanks for the reminder about the masks... not long hopefully until they're no longer required in Portugal! We really appreciate your lovely comments and always look forward to hearing from you! ~ Mandy
Thanks, Christine. I'm glad you found it useful and informative. We like to spend a good amount of time in each place we visit and try to explore in depth. 5 days was great for Braga. We wanted to go out to Guimares but didn't make it in the end. The weather wasn't great unfortunately. The shopping centre is just called Braga Shopping and faces the main square. We entered via a side door I think. Hope you enjoyed your stay there as much as we did. 👍 ~ Lee
We love that you covered that postcard process! We always think "we should send a note" and seldom do, so it's great to learn what it costs in different regions of the world. Braga looks like such a beautiful area to explore!
Thank you for your lovely comment! We used to send loads of postcards but now it's just to a few family members. It's amazing how difficult it can be to find postcards nowadays... we went into 5 souvenir shops in Praia da Rocha before we found these ones! We actually made a Postcard Challenge video when we were in Erbil, Iraqi Kurdistan in 2019... that seriously was a epic challenge as was during Eid and everything was closed!😁😀 Thank you for taking the time to comment! ~ Mandy
Love Braga so much, the food Architectute, culture, traditions. Awesome.
We totally agree, Caterina! We had such a great time in Braga, even with the cloudy grey days, and met such lovely people! ~ Mandy
I recently discovered your videos and really like them. We are also frugal travelers and like to experience more than just the big touristy sites. We plan to visit Portugal in October - if the Delta variant doesn't destroy our plans. We were planning to spend time in Porto and Vigo but now want to include Braga. Have you spend time in Galicia or maybe you are headed there soon? I look forward to seeing more from you guys. Very informative. And thanks for showing us how to eat frugally.
Hello Thomas. Thank you so much for your lovely comment - it's exactly what we hoped to do, to be able to show fellow frugal travellers just how easy it is to travel on a budget and have a great time! Fingers crossed you make it to Portugal in October... just keep in mind that the climate up north is similar to the UK so it could be chilly with rain... that's why it's so lush and green there! We came through Galicia on our FlixBus from London to Porto, and hopefully we'll go back and explore some day. We're planning to be in Portugal for a while yet, and we hope you enjoy the videos to come. Thank you for taking the time to write, we really appreciate it! ~ Mandy
That magnolia tree looks good for its age. Doesn’t look a day over 50 😆
And epic sandwich. Don’t think I’ve ever seen one quite like it.
Hahhha... that made me laugh, Elisa 🤣 We made a Francesinha video when we were in Porto in November... I'll add the card now as Porto was the birthplace of this incredible sandwich! Unfortunately it's not vegetarian friendly! ~ Mandy
Super video as usual. Always look forward to your videos as they so informative. Braga is so beautiful.
Thank you so much for your lovely comment, Hillary! Braga is a beautiful city and we had a great time there. ~ Mandy
Congrats on your lovely video. Braga is beautiful. Enjoy your stay there. All the Best to you.
Thank you, Gloria, for the lovely compliment! We agree, Braga is beautiful! ~ Mandy
Braga, we wanted to take a day trip there but didn't have time. The garden looks so lovely, and the tiled building at 6:19 is just wow!
Braga is beautiful, and the walk up to Bom Jesus do Monte is brilliant! I'm actually pleased for you that you didn't go there on a day trip, as you could easily spend 2-4 days there. We were in Braga for 5 days and wish we'd had longer! Hopefully you'll make it there another time 😁😃 ~ Mandy
Thanks for sharing. I really think this place is a possibility to move to. It looks special.
That's so lovely, Lesley. There are so many wonderful places in Portugal - that's one of the reasons we're so happy to be house- and pet-sitting, as it's a great way to explore more of this beautiful country! Thank you for watching, and for taking the time to comment! ~ Mandy
Hello Mandy and Lee, cant wait for the Coimbra vlog, we would like to visit there ourselves one day. Have been watching The life of Imo for some time now could have guessed she would have followed you channel with her love of Portugal. Love the content in your videos, very informative thank-you.
Hello Karen. Thank you so much for your lovely comment - we're so pleased you enjoy our videos 😁 I love The Life of Imo - I really like the way she views life, and is always so real! Lee's just finished the third and final Coimbra video... they'll be published every Friday/Saturday for the next few weeks!
We're actually mixing things up a bit this week... will have the bus trip from Braga to Coimbra on Wednesday, then Frugal Travel Costs Estonia on Fri/Sat as we're really proud of it 😀 Thank you so much for taking the time to write, we really appreciate it! ~ Mandy
Thanks a bunch for this video. I have next May booked for Braga! The food deals sounds right up my alley!
Hi Todd! That's so cool - we hope you have a great time in Braga! Reading through the comments on this video and our other 2 Braga videos, there are loads of amazing places to visit nearby. We definitely want to go back and explore more of the north of Portugal! ~ Mandy
Great video guys, I've been to Braga twice but did not see this much. Thanks for sharing. Great eating tips.
Thank you, Cindy! We're pleased we were able to show you different parts of Braga, as it's such a lovely city! Braga Shopping is the place to go for delicious, inexpensive meals 😀😁 ~ Mandy
Oh yes, I DO like that garden. :¬D
Hahhha... you were the first person I thought of when I saw the veggie garden as the first of your videos I saw was the one of you with your seedlings in the car and going to Lidl 😀😁 It reminded me of our allotment in the UK... happy memories! Mandy
✨
Thanks 🙏
Wonderful . Many of your viewers must surely be hoping to follow in your footsteps .Were there many English books in those libraries ?
Thank you so much for your lovely comment! We really hope that our videos show people just how easy it is to travel on a budget and have an amazing time! Unfortunately we were in Braga when things were still restricted, so we couldn't actually browse the shelves, but had to ask the librarian for a specific book. I'm not sure if you've seen our recent Nazaré video, but I showed the Nazaré library with shelves of books in English 😀😁 ~ Mandy
Love your videos :) I was curious how about hot it gets in Braga during the summer? The 80's or 90's (F) or....?
Glad you have enjoyed our videos. 🙏. It was quite cloudy and dull for the whole week we were there in Braga during the summer which I think is quite rare. I imagine it could get into the 90's at times but it's definitely cooler and more temperate than the south of Portugal.
You should go and visit Viseu where I’m from as your going to Coimbra It’s not that far all all I’m sure you would love it.
Thank you for the excellent suggestion! We're now housesitting near Caldas da Rainha, and will be going to Setúbal this weekend for another housesit... but we want to go back and spend more time in Coimbra! When we do, we'll definitely visit Viseu... thank you! ~ Mandy
Aw we miss Portugal already! How much longer are you planning on being there for? Braga looks like an easy ‘liveable’ place if you get me? - an easy transition from an English village or town, for people who may be a little nervous to travel/move abroad. We love Portugal and will definitely return for sure! Xx
Hi there! I don't blame you for missing Portugal - I think it's such a liveable country wherever you go 😀 I know what you mean about Braga though - we met a few people in our guesthouse who had chosen to move to Braga because it is such a quiet and safe city. We're planning to be here for quite a while longer as have started housesitting again... which is such a brilliant way to explore places we'd never have visited ourselves. We've spent the past month housesitting near Caldas da Rainha and Óbidos, so were able to visit those two lovely places. Thank you for taking the time to comment, we really appreciate your feedback! ~ Mandy
Lepo da nemoze biti lepse 👍🙋♀️🌍
Is this Slovenian or Croatian? I'm trying to work it out. 👍🙋
@@FrugalTravellers 🇷🇸
Cor! That's a bench and a half in the entrance to the library!
Correction - reading rooms!
I hadn't noticed the bench as was too transfixed by the azulejos! ~ Mandy
@@PlanetImo Hahhha... I love the way you are very precise with your wording... another thing I think we have in common 😁😀 ~ Mandy
That bench had my name all over it. 😊 ~ Lee
I don't think a first-class stamp in the UK is too far off the price of the stamp you bought to post to the UK. I wonder what it costs to post a letter internally, there?
That's a good question! According to a website I just checked, it's €0.84 for the lightest sized letter! ~ Mandy
Actually, that might have been a US website! The next time we're in town I'll ask at the CTT 😀 ~ Mandy
if it wasn't for the lockdown would you discover Portugal as intensaly as you present it to us now ?
That's a very good question, and you're correct... it was thanks to the second lockdown that we had the opportunity to fall in love with this beautiful country! We came for a couple of months in November 2020 and are still here 😀😁 ~ Mandy
@@FrugalTravellers then, since you are People Extraordinare as Travelers maybe your readears should compreend that scounting tours to Portugal with less than 3 months are useless. 1 month in Madeira or Azores is enough but in the mainland is very short.
@@negociogenial5814 People work with the time they have, and I'm sure that's why there's so interest in vlogs on life in different parts of Portugal. We wish everyone the best with their research and fact finding missions! ~ Mandy
@@FrugalTravellers what I am saying is that contrary to many other european countryes where everything is reachable with internet information and a "short walk" here it is not like that. So, some people who could have a terrific life experience here, go away with failed expectations.
@@negociogenial5814 Yes, that's bound to happen ~ Mandy
