I live in Upstate New York, and my cousin is from Norway, and while he isn't deaf, there are no cicadas in Norway and one of the first times he came over during cicada season, and was wondering what the hell the noise was while the rest of us had no idea what he was talking about.

When I first met my mum's boyfriend I thought he was the rudest person ever, he would regularly walk away from me when I was talking to him, ignore me, walk straight past me, cut me off in conversation and talk straight over me and then one day I said hi and he walked past me and I muttered "guess I'll go f myself then" and my mum was like woah what was that all about and I was like what do you mean? He's so rude it's really starting to get to me and that's when my mum decided to explain that he's got no hearing in his left ear and only partial hearing in his right, he doesn't wear hearing aids because the world's too noisy and he likes the quiet, genuinely one of the loveliest people I have ever met as well, very kind and nice to everyone, we laugh about it now but honestly it makes me sad that it's probably a common thing for patially deaf people, people thinking they're rude

I didn’t know the shower made noises. It also scared the crap out of me.
The sound of fire was also weird. I knew it made noise but not that noise.
I didn’t know birds made noise. I went to a deaf school and they didn’t teach us about sound.
The first time our fire alarm went off I cried and to this day I am paranoid it will go off.
I didn’t know people have accents. I was shocked. Even people from different states. The plus side is now I’m really good at guessing which state they are from. It’s a cool party trick at college.
I also thought babies could talk when they were born. Like why is your mouth moving if you can’t talk?? Also their cries are head splitting. Like insanely painful.
Cool fact: when I was deaf I could hear my blink. Like obviously not HEAR it but I can’t really explain it. But when I got my hearing I couldn’t anymore. I was kind of upset.

I thought the sky was melting my mom said she thought I'd be scared... but I cried tears of joy. It was the most beautiful thing I'd ever seen. And to this day I love watching the sun set.
The next day at school I had to take off my glasses to find my friends because I couldn't tell who they were with how clear the world around me was. When I saw them I Practically screamed "You're all so beautiful!!!" They thought my reaction to seeing everything was really interesting. They picked a wild purple iris by the playground and it was the first flower is ever seen, all the detail and how esteemed and proud it looked. To this day the iris is my favorite flower.

    • @coyowolf4609
      @coyowolf4609 Před 4 lety +29

JellyPaladin thunder is the vibrations of lightning, if you count the seconds between seeing the burst of electricity and when the sound hits you, you can tell how far away it is. Kind of like when you drop something down a chasm or hole to find out how deep it is and if it’s water or rock at the bottom.
Idk if typical people can regularly feel it when they go outside but for people with heightened sensory conditions it is normal to feel thunder even inside as touch is a sense normally increased when something else decreases or they can’t filter sensory information the way others do.

@IshaniKarmakarDey A lot of parents don't think to question their kid or if the kid says something they'll brush it off. When I started college I kept getting migraines and I told my mom about it, and I explained to her it's probably my glasses (I hadn't gone to the optometrist for 3 years). She told me it's because I don't eat enough and it can't be my glasses because my vision shouldn't have changed after the age of 18. My friend (who's now my husband) was worried about it and asked me about those migraines. I explained to him what was going and he helped get a doctor's appointment and help me pay for new glasses (I believe his parents helped out as well). After that, I no longer had migraines and was able to do school work with ease. I told my mom that it was my glasses and her response was the same, "Oh, I thought it was because you didn't eat enough". I was in college and my mom, who is a parent, literally ignored me instead of helping me with the situation. Deaf guy: oh look a bug! I wonder what it is saying ,maybe “I’m a bug and they don’t see me yet”
Same guy but with hearing aids: hi little bug aren’t you gonna say anything?
    *disappointment*.

My vision is very VERY bad as well, and the leaves on the trees was the first thing that really blew me away when i was little!😅 and I quote "Wait.....am I supposed to be able to see the leaves from here?! Is that normal?"
This also meant that there was never an issue with me forgetting to wear my glasses to school since I basically cant see anything clearly that's not two inches from my face....
And this also later explained why when my teachers would tell my parents during teacher meetings that I had a problem making faces at them in class, and I'd honestly tell them that I wasnt....It was because I didnt know that there was anything wrong with my vision, and always thought that I was far enough away that they couldnt see my face 🤣🤣🤣....I had to seriously work on my facial expressions cause I was so used to be sitting a few feet away from someone and thinking that they cant tell what my face looks like yet👀

At first I’m like, “wait but smiling doesn’t make a sound!”
Then I smile and I realize I sound like a Minecraft slime every time. Doesn’t help that I have braces. I guess people just don’t realize it.
