Emily has been living in a foster home ever since her father was institutionalized after her mother's death. Still, she keeps in touch with him through the birthday cards he sends her every year. As Emily starts at a new school, she catches the attention of her shy classmate Arden. When her father doesn't send a birthday card on her 16th birthday, Emily decides to take matters into her own hands. Enlisting Arden's help, she runs away, and the pair set out on a road trip to break her father out of the psych ward. As their journey progresses, Emily and Arden must depend on each other as they learn about life, love, loss, and letting go.

Why do girls in movies always insist they can look after themselves and walk away rudely. If a guy tried to help me when I was being picked on in school it would have made me so happy.

Kiomaye well, not everybody is a romantic like you or easy to please. Also, obviously her character has trouble with fitting in and finding friends so of course she will be defensive and have trust issues. She doesn't know how to react when someone outside her family shows genuine interest in her because she's used to being called a freak by her peers. Honestly, if I was her, I would be suspicious too.
Yeah some people might react that way sure, but i see it so often in movies it's become a cliche - surely not every girl is like that? I'm 99% sure it's just in every movie to give it some sort of plot/character development because if the girl realistically instantly liked the cute nice guy that would make the movie short and boring I guess.
I get what you're saying because holy shit that guy is cute, and in real life if a guy was genuinely interested in me and a bit persistent about helping me and spending time with me, I would go for it, a hundred percent. But like revolrtol said, she's obviously socially awkward and has trust issues. But it does seem like a common thing in movies that gets annoying sometimes.

This is absolutely the best movie i have watched in my short existence. Its extremely reflective, melancholy and carries a great deal of depth. It is refreshing to see a film that makes you think deeper than the posts on Instagram or twitter, it requires a bit of reflecting and deciding. I am extremely grateful for this film.
I have watched this movie for about 3 times, and every single time, i fall in love with the ingeniosity of its maker. This is a pure piece of art, I wish I was or I will be able to meet the amazing person or people who imagined such a unique and extra ordinary, life changing and inspiring movie
