I'm regularly getting 8hrs of screen on time with about 15-20% remaining on my 8 Pro.
The biggest battery drains on Pixels has always been WiFi scanning (turn that off straight away) and also location services. I use a macro that automatically switches location completely off when an app isn't using it. Works perfectly and makes the Pixel phones have amazing battery life
how do i can get macro to do that with my location?
can you tell me how to use macro for location ?
Could you explain this or where to get this?
How can I get the macro?
I always turn off Wi-Fi scanning and bluetooth if or when at home and not using, but have never heard of a macro that automatically switches location. Can you explain this and how or where to get this?
I went from the 7 Pro to the 8 and I couldn't be any happier! I love the size the most, it's super comfortable. Tired of having a TV in my pocket.
haha u funny bro but its so true xD
I went from 6 to pro 8 and it's amazing
@@jankuzminski7183 Camera is a massive upgrade. Screen is vivid and smoother. HDR photos are nice. For me it's great. If someone has 7 Pro maybe they don't need to upgrade
My phone S23U went through a snow blower which was fevastating, but im also looking forward to going down in size and weight by a considerable amount with the Pixel 8 ive purchased.
I have both the 8 pro and 8, however, I am enjoying the smaller 8 as the pro was a bit too bulky
Most screen protector manufacturers recommend creating a new fingerprint scan after fitting the protector, normally fixes things.
Congratulations on 500k! You absolutely deserve twice that many!
Your videos are definitely one of the most professional and well thought through!
Bring physical fingerprint readers back to the back of the phone. It is implemented perfectly on the 4a.
And does not work 1 in 3 times.
I really like how it was also a kinda trackpad that you could use to scroll notifications and stuff
@@igorjuricek5683the rear mounted fingerprint reader worked almost every time. I have a lot more trouble with the visual fingerprint scanner on my Pixel 8
Lovely to see a nicely shot video in my home town, well done Sam good video.
Damo
Damn dude. That's what you call a review! I unexpectadly was given this phone by my provider which is great but I knew very little about it. This showed me a lot. A LOT. Thnx!
Nice to have a proper aussie in the tec review space, didnt know i needed tech reviews in this strong accent but loving it
This has to be one of the most straight forward and unbiased reviews I’ve seen on the Pixel 8. What I like is you point out what you like but when you say what you don’t like you don’t trash the phone like most reviewers have. I’m actually very impressed with the Pixel 8 and while it isn’t a perfect phone, I find myself enjoying Pixels more than any other android and often more than iPhones too.
yeah
I can't stand Iphones.
@@neonaviolett6281 I totally understand half the time I hate iPhones lol. But I will say one area Pixels have to catch up is how seamless the iPhones work with their ecosystem. The pixel 8 is really close to getting there and I am hoping they can integrate things like a better messaging system and making Google Pay as good as Apple Pay.
Hey, thanks for looking at the regular pixel 8 as most reviews only look at the pro.
Your spot on with the one real negative is the processor and the modem. I have a galaxy S 23+ and I compare these two phones in the same area where I work in the standby time is way better on the S 23 and also doesn’t get warm and also you’re right when you play with the camera features, the pixel is a bit slower for sure.
All the special pixel features are great the voice to text almost perfect, the song, recognizing thing deal, which I forgot the name, the call spam feature, how Google Assistant is able to do more on the pixel phone with the speaking to it. That’s also pretty cool .
Google gives seven years of software support, but I got a wonder about this processor on this phone being good for seven years but anyway it’s a good phone
Let’s rephrase that , “ Google is promising 7 years of updates “, Google’s track record of following through with stuff is pretty ordinary, but we hope they keep their promise on this one.
I always enjoy your work, man. Lovely family too ❤
If your pixel 8 is giving you a little frustration with the fingerprint sensor while using a screen protector, try using a higher quality screen protector. I used the Spigen tempered glass and I used another timber glass. Both of them gave me issues so I went and purchased the Whitestone dome tempered glass and this one works like a charm. When from 80% success rate to 100% success rate opening my phone
I traded my Pixel 7 in for the 8. Just the size alone made a huge difference. It's the perfect size. The battery has been great, the performance has been great and of course the cameras are amazing. I'm very happy with it.
Size aside, is the device basically the same?
Great honest review. I’m still using iPhone 10, & it’s time for a new phone but after 3 iPhones it’s time to move on, so I’ve been looking at alternatives for a while. This has defo helped! Cheers mate!
i feel a comparison vid between the Pixel 8 and the Samsung Galaxy S23 needs to be made
both phones seem excellent and for the 256GB models can be found in the same ballpark
Loads of comparisons Samsung Galaxy S23 wins by far!
Yea, if you want the absolute most out of android, the galaxy is far superior. If you want a good android experience with super silky smooth optimization, then pixel is the way to go.
the cost difference is huge.
@@rohansuri1058they're literally the same price
@@junoperberry oh my bad. I actually checked Pixel8's black friday deal which is at 549$ VS s23 is 799$. Hence felt the huge diff of almost 250$.
Whoa, really great review and video 👏🏽🎉
This vid just make me more excited on getting mine.
Love your review videos!
got a sweet deal on the pixel 8 coming in today can't wait super excited coming from the 5a. very good info in this video thanks for sharing your experiences! quick side note to folks talking about battery life haven't used it long enough for it to learn and adjust. #teampixel
Hey sam great vid you have a new subscriber! I also watched your phone 2 after one month. Which would you daily drive between the phone 2 and pixel 8?
Your video quality is incredible ❤
Are you having any issues with the lock screen clock showing? When locking the phone it can take 2 or 3 times unlocking and relocking the phone before the lock screen clock appears.
Fantastic review! Can you please show us how to take pictures? I have a pixel 7 and my photos aren't as crisp
Where did you get your mouse and keyboard? Looks dope 👌🏽
The quality of your videography is amazing! Can you compare pix8 to samsung s23?
For anyone that has the phone, I understand when recording video, does anyone know if this also applies to their straight up audio recorder? I love this audio recorder feature and I use it a lot. I sometimes get white noise or background noise and it sure would be nice to diminish it
Make a video on setting up Pixel, your changed settings, stuffs you generally keep on default, etc.
Thank You
Great video Sam. Having purchased the S23, I'm curious how it fares against the Pixel 8.
If possible, do consider comparing the two phones in the future.
Thanks.
there will be no comparison. it can't touch the samsung. i really want to switch away from samsung, and was wanting to go with the pixel 8. but it's poor battery is the total deal-breaker. i am still running my samsung s20 fe. i record video quite a bit, while hiking, and i've never, ever, in 3 years of usage, had my battery run out in a day.
it sounds like the pixel barely makes it through a day, with just normal phone usage. i guess that's fine, for most people, but it sure doesn't cut it for my phone usage.
I love my 8 Pro, rounded edges make it really comfortable in the hand
Incredible video, hoping to experience does issues implement on pixel 9, incredible phone love it.
Hey Sam Beckman, just wanted to express my sincere gratitude for your exceptional review on the Google Pixel 8. Your honest insights, thorough coverage from design to software and camera quality, truly convinced me to make the purchase. Your talent in delivering such insightful content is truly commendable. Thanks again, and God bless!
Hi, do you use case or no with your phones?
Kudos to this man for his unbiased reviews.
couldn't agree more with your comments about the fingerprint sensor, chipset, and customizability
Love your videos Sam, I have a Samsung S20 FE. I want to update, doubting between Google Pixel 7, 7 pro or 8. Also thinking about photo of kids etc any thoughts?
What about battery draining related to poor signal / modem hardware?
Thanks for the review
watching this on my pixel 7
no plans to upgrade but man does the size look nice
I upgraded from the pixel 7 to the eight because Best Buy I gave me $450 and they gave the earbuds Pro which I sold for $110 so it was like getting $560 to upgrade on a $700 phone …the biggest difference you noticed is the brighter screen. Everything else is a little better, but 7 is still a good phone
I'm using Android 14 beta on my Pixel 8 Pro, but scrolling stutters a lot and the phone becomes slow if I don't reboot it once a day. I don't know if it's because it's a beta or if it's just like that.
Is the pink version you got ? Because i love the color but i see it white. Anyway i want to change phone this year but Pixel reliability issues as well as their autonomy scare me a little !
Well made! I love reviews that aren't afraid to complain.
If I want to hear all the good things I might as well watch their promotional video.
I just bought the pixel 8 and it's awesome. I come from a oneplus 6T and I miss the physical vibrate/mute toggle but it's nice that there is the shortcut to mute the phone on the lock-screen, although it would be nice to also have a shortcut to put it on vibrate. It should not be that hard to add it with a future update. Hope they will do that.
Apart from that it's an awesome phone.
A lot of people say battery is really bad especially in mobile data, have you noticed this issue with your regular Pixel 8?
@@orbital16i have the 7 and its ia really bad
Very very honest review. Love you Sam.
Hey, you know the app for reels/shorts scrolling on its own, what's that called?
what is the wallpaper app you are using sir?
I think about switching to iPhone 14 or Pixel 8 as a successor for my S10e... What do you think?
You're the only one that mentioned my kind of problem with pixel. Lack of customiztion on home screen & slow processing on photo editing & changing wallpaper 😢
I need to add some, cannot hide apps, no double tap to sleep on home or lockscreen when every single other android do it.😢 No screenshot guetures.
Seems more iOS than Android.
@@jevonsims900 Yes, you're totally correct..
I'm going on my 4th week with my pixel 8 pro and I'm loving it. I highly recommend this device 👍
Yeah, if you like carrying a frisbee sized phone in your pocket.
best looking phone review I've ever seen :dd no joke.. made me subscribe
Hey @sambeckman, My wife is an iphone user but is unsure whether to transition to the dark side with Google's Pixel 8 with me. She mainly loves taking photos and we don't have any other apple products. Would you recommend the Iphone 15 or the Pixel 8 if they were roughly the same price?
4:54 imagine trashing the fingerprint sensor while using it wrong
lol I know, he used like a quarter of the side of his thumb
Exactly after i just seen that i cut the video off lol
Lol I was just thinking this. You have to keep your finger on it for like 2 seconds. It's not a quick tap and unlock 😅
Please what is the mouse with the see through top @22 seconds?
Can you please check if you can dial emergency services? It's a huge issue which doesn't seem to be addressed
Which one takes the sharpest photos even after zooming IPhone15 or, Pixel 8 ??? ( IPhone 15 supports for super-high-resolution photos (24MP and 48MP).... and which one is the great pick overall ?????
Where did you get these walpapers from ? They are incredible !
They're from my shop - www.samuelbeckman.com/shop/watercolor
I miss the Pixel5 fingerprint reader on the back. Also the small size of Pixel5. But pixel 8 is ok.
Yeah they should bring back the physical fingerprint reader. I still got my P5 as the size is perfect for one-hand use -, going to consider P9 or Zenfone 11 next year.
I agree the rear fingerprint sensor is what I missed. Im use to my 8 pro now so its not a big deal. The size and weight of the 8 pro still bothers me.
How can I get the same wallpapers as those youre showing in the video?
Hi Sam, what's your personal phone and why you chose it?
I got my pixel 8 a few days ago, and on day 3 when I opened my phone in the morning it went from 100% to 97% immediately. Will adaptive battery fix this or is there a problem with my phone battery?
there are probably applications running in the background, but on most phones the battery percentage drops overnight, especially on iPhones.
What would be a better value between the 8 and 7a?
what would you choose... the oneplus 12R or Pixel 8... My wife needs to upgrade and she needs good camera... but it is a bit of low light in her studio
Just got the Pixel 8 yesterday. Coming from a decade of off the shelf Moto Gs. I mostly just wanted to give NFC and wireless charging a try. And eSIM let me try a plan other than Walmart's, because I travel a lot and need more data. It's less sluggish so far, but not the upgrade I thought it would be from my $99 phone. I'll miss the SD card slot and shakey flashlight.
I call it karate lights, motorola is way ahead when it comes to features. Missing my old g5 s plus.
If you like your phone and battery do not use wireless charging. Its lossy and the power loss is in the form of HEAT so you are cooking your battery and phone = short life.
Watching on my new Pixel 8 ❤😁
Yeah the main problem why I don't consider the Pixel phones is inability to remove those stock widgets. At least we should be able to replace the Google search.
Why ditch the 128GB configuration? I've just ordered one to replace my Xiaomi 11. I always opt for the lower storage option as its always cheaper and all of my photos and videos sync to OneDrive anyway so I never run low on space.
This is so close to being nearly perfect for me, but the chip and the battery are my main concerns, and I think S23/S24 would be better for me at this point. The finger print scanner is also better, as is the video, plus the telephoto (not as big of a deal to me, but nice still), and I do like some of the deeper customization you get with Samsung. Still, the Pixel UI and experience is general is very enticing to me, enough to make this a pretty tough decision, despite the very lackluster chip.
ikr, pixel is just more fun of a phone
For me, user experience is the most important thing, so I would say go with the Pixel
I Just got it a couple of days ago, its a really really good phone
I don't know that big metal piece sticking out of the back for the camera just looks ugly and seems like it would be uncomfortable in the pocket. I don't know what was wrong with having the camera sitting up in the top corner in its little rounded off square housing...
Watching this on my new Pixel 8 I got today, coming from an iphone 13 after two years (did use a 14 pro max for a month not that long), it is such a phenomenal device
Why is no one mentioning how every shot of this video is beautifully decorated, a pleasure to watch such tasteful content
Just ordered my Pixel 8 (Hazel) on Black Friday for $550. The smaller size is just perfect for everyday use.
Can't wait! 🤩
how has been the experience?
How can you call that small? I swear people are brainwashed these days. Try holding an iphone mini 13 and then you'll see a "smaller" phone. Get real, if they made phones like tablets and then came out with something just an inch smaller you would be happy to carry that "small" phone as well. Brainwashed..
@@FalseInformation why so aggressive. Damn. I'm coming from a 6.7inch phone and am looking forward to a "smaller" phone. 😁
@@FalseInformation i hope you find peace soon.
how was the experience? any issues?
People overhype the adaptive battery on the pixel phones, all it does is disabke notifications and permisions on apps you haven't used in a while, a nice feature sure, but its not doing as much as people think it is.
I have the 8 pro and i can honestly say i have never had an issue with the fingerprint sensor, there was a large recent update so maybe that cured any issues with it, battery life i find to be amazing even with wifi scanning and location left on. The magic eraser is also incredible. I have recently changed from Oppo x5 pro which is also a great phone but i found the battery life was pretty poor.
Really good review as usual, Sam!
Loving the 21:9 aspect ratio. Looks stellar on my Xperia 1 V
I've got the 6a and I love it I'm not getting the 8 till next year cause it will be much cheaper and the fact it's got like 7 years of os updates.
bro knows that we absolutely will ask about that sick wallpapers
2:20 nice wallpaper. Where can I download it from? Thanks
It is sad there is not a lot pixel in my country and price is like twice its company price.
The quality of his videos is just awesome
hi, what are those screen backgrounds? i like em, gotta download link or...?
Link is in description 👍🏻
I think the only issue that I have with their design each year. Is that they insist on using the glossy aluminum camera housing for the pro model. The matte just looks way better and is significantly more resistant to scratching.
But apple puts shiny on their pro models so they have to follow suit
Not anymore lol
@@defnotatroll
Put a case in it prob solved
I'm surprised he's having such a problem with the under display fingerprint sensor. Is it different than the one in the Pixel 8 Pro? Mine works almost every time. Coming from a Pixel 5 I did have to adjust to it being a tiny bit slower but I adjusted pretty easily. It's not 100% perfect but almost. It's just as consistent as the rear sensor on my Pixel 5.
Adaptive battery doesn't do anything.
Ayyeeee I also came from the Pixel 5. I miss my 5 but I am beginning to love my 8. I've had it about a week now.
Also!!! I never have fingerprint issues on any phone tbh. Pro tip, make 2 slots for your main unlocking finger. So if you use your right thumb, make 2 or 3 unlocks for your right thumb and you'll never have problems.
@@fearandsmoking I didn't need to set up the same finger more than once. It works fine with just one time.
Try working with real labor and you'll see how it never works. If you work at the computer every day I'm sure it works all the time.
@@FalseInformation lol I'm a carpenter. Union local 1912. SKILLED LABOR. Journeyman. My phone works just fine. Maybe get yourself a replacement bro.
Would you rate the pixel 8 battery over the Samsung s23? I own pixel 8 but wanted to go even lighter with a S23
I've owned both and in my experience, the battery life is very similar on both.
Pixel 7 pro vs pixel 8.. Which one will best for me Right now..
Thanks
My fingerprint sensor seems to be a little better than the Pixel 7. Strange how this occurs, I do have to register it 2 or 3 times though. Google makes a good phone for really being a software company. They do need to work on that Pixel Launcher.
Yeah, and the shot in this video to "show how bad the FP Sensor is" was a total stitch up. Sam was deliberately pressing it with a slim edge of the thumb instead of the actual thumb (likely because it works fine and would have in his shot if he used it properly).
If he wanted to make his point and force the scanner to fail, he could have just registered a different finger and then tried to use his thumb in the shot.
I love his content, but I am getting sick of CZcams reviewers dunking on this FP Sensor when it is completely fine (and I only use it at night now when the Face Unlock isn't suitable).
@@paulomalleymmm... If they're using the same sensor as the 7 pro it's subpar. I'm a pixel fan for sure but I'll recognize a problem area when I see it. I enter my pin after multiple failed attempts much more than I'd like. I'd prefer a rear sensor honestly
@@dyscotopia There are better options for FP Sensors, sure, but the reader on the 8 Pro is nowhere near as unreliable as these videos would make you think it is.
Even though it seems to be the same sensor as the 7 series, it performs marketedly better on the 8 Pro so I assume there's some software work at play too.
Back FPR like they had on the 5 is still the best option in my opinion, and would work really well in conjunction with the Face Unlock which is great.
The Pixel Launcher need more customisation for sure
i dont get it. my pixel 8s battery life is terrible. (i had a s21+ before). It loses about 18% in 8hours over the night. i even deactivated some features...
It says the internet connection uses about 60% of my battery which is stupid since i even deactivated 5G. Can anyone help or hat similar problems?
This channel should have more views!
Waiting for 7a long term review!
Good review and helps me make decisions. Stop saying "Whilst"!
Is the scrolling still choppy and jittery in most apps
Good job sam❤
Maybe if you put your thumb on the scanner like a normal person than maybe it would be more consistent xD
No, it's really not that great. It's fine I guess, but I use face unlock most of the time since fingerprint doesn't work
Google is basically somewhat making Apple as their role model, like think about it, Google only makes flagship phones, they make their own chip, they have high end earbuds, and their ecosystem is almost as good as Apple’s and their pricing as starting to become the same, Google pixel phones are the iphones of Android which i honestly like
In North America, Never buy pixel phones at msrp. They often go on sale here. So for all the gripes about the CPU being more akin to mid range, at the sale prices, the phone is priced in the mid range. I see the pixel 8 as a mid range phone with some very nice high end features. The camera though is undoubtedly the jewel in the crown. Out of the box, the pixels take phenomenal photos. The S24 is currently almost 50% more expensive, but it is argueable that you aren't getting 50% more phone
What icons you use
Loved the video. New sub here.
Anyone else notice the screen seems to look and feel slightly off? The iPhone and Galaxy are easier on the eyes and appear a bit clearer
