Anthony Phillips was in essence all that Genesis would ever be. He is pure genius.
one of the most romantic musicians ever... touching melodies and magic sounds from the deepest part of human soul. inspiring to live in other, better world. thank you Anthony...
he sings beautifully everything he ever recorded is amazing
I didn't expect that but yes, great vocal.
We understand Anthony's shyness of performing in front of people but if he could perform like this on camera more often, it would be a real treat for the fans. His music is difficult to transcribe so it is great to watch him play.
I love his instrumental music to bits, but I do wish he'd do an album of songs once again. Just like this: a guitar, a voice, a melody, a lyric.
The best artist to come out of Genesis... Anthony Phillips without a doubt.
Bless you Ant Phillips . Thank you for the shy man's honey . Visions of Angels all around..
I have read in several places that antony is so shy--I so HOPE that that he reads these comments of hoim much people LOVE HIM!!!!!!!!!
Echoes of Stagnation from Trespass...awesome !
Id pay a lot of money just to listen to him strum a guitar for a couple hours.
Sublime and as ever so sincere. His music has me realising how much i miss me mam and dad transporting me back to nicer times and diamond days (shrugs) so there! 👁
so talented ! His work on Trespass was genius. Even after he left Genesis, his sensitive guitar playing, creativity and his unique 'quintessentially English' vibe was a massive influence on many a Genesis masterpiece.... from 'For Absent Friends' (Nursery Cryme), 'Suppers Ready' (Foxtrot), and 'Can Utility and the Coastliners' (Foxtrot)... to 'Cinema Show/Aisle of Plenty' (Selling England by the Pound), 'Cuckoo Cocoon (Lamb), and 'Blood on the Rooftops' (Wind and Wuthering).
Amazing musician and the best
vocalist in Genesis as far as I'm concerned.
What a great perfomance! Who says he can`t sing? More of this, please. A whole living-room-concert on DVD! Always loved his music. Trespass is still my favourite Genesis-Album.Anthony was the member wgo gave his soul to the music. What a pitty that he didn`t was longer with them.
I agree. How cool would it have been to have him with Steve Hackett(in the studio of course due to his stage fright, on those subsequent Albums Nursery Cryme, Foxtrot, S.E.B.T.P., The Lamb, etc.) His Accoustic and 12 string
With Hackett’s 12 string and Electric Playing would be a true Wall of Sound unlike any other. I love Anthony Phillip’s Honesty and Humbleness. His out of this world talent is amazing as well. Damn Stagefright!
Hauntingly beautiful....I love 'The Geese and the Ghost' album too. Thank you for posting this gem.
I thought I was the only person in the world who loved that album
God if I saw her now
Sheesh what a great song
Around the 2m 30 mark you can really hear his inner Genesis coming out. Great song, great songwriter and great bloke.
Spot on .
Often forgotten that Phillips was as strong a songwriter as Gabriel, Banks ans Rutherford, and a sublime 12 string guitariist. He was so much a main part of early Genesis. Steve Hackett I believe is a better electric lead guitarist, but this 12 string guitar sound continued until Selling England by the Pound, and reappears on A Trick of theTail track "Ripples". So good!
That is true However it's uncertain if Genesis' sound with Ant would be successful if they relied to much on him for the overall Genesis sound, because he seemed to be the visionary behind the band's sound which was really amazing and I'm just now really getting into the Trespass era seriously (I have always loved that album though). It's the hardcore stuff for sure. Funny thing is Phil's voice was perfect for this music, so maybe if Phil had sung a hit song earlier they would have been still huge. Who knows.
it depends on taste i think, but compositionally, Anthony is stronger than all of them, he is my personal favourite musician ever
no shades on other members, all talented
Great song, and great voice, Anthony! Love this!!
Fantastic song as every track by music genius Anthony Phillips
Great fret-work, and a beautiful song indeed... I am currently 54 years old, and "Tresspass" is still one of my all-time favorite albums -- I can hear some of those crisp accoustic guitar tones used on that album in this song/video.
Wish you guys would get back together to record "Tresspass-2"... I hear that Jethro Tull has, or is, releasing "Thick As A Brick-2" -- The first "T.A.A.B." album was issued over 40 years ago, I do believe... Some people, like myself, never tire of progressive rock.
Ant's guitar playing was so particular and the main thing that attracted me to Genesis. That and Peter's vocals and the strong compositions (some of which were Ant's). I think his collaboration with Phil on The Geese was excellent.. His outstanding guitar playing and Phil's natural inclination for ballads were a great match.
Don’t forget Mike Rutherford’s great songwriting and bass contributions to that album!
Ant was basically the group's main composer at their early stage. i love Anthony so much.. he changed my perception of music, i actually started discovering genesis after loving Ant
cheers
He isss sooo great
All of those early melodies, all of that modulated chord structure in early Genesis, Ant was such a driving force to that music and it’s obvious in his solo stuff
Nice song. I like his voice.
It’s nice to see him play there is very little footage of him playing . There are very few 12 virtuosos out there but Anthony Phillips is a true master
Those chords are like windows into heaven 'Visions of Angels' appear. Words can't describe this music.
Excelente 🇧🇷☮️🔥 todos que são e passaram pelo Genesis são fantásticos 😉
Very Genesis sound!
Can hear the influence of his style on a song like "Stagnation" ..... the unexpected hanging chords always add beauty....
Grazie. Thank you. Canzone che tocca il cuore.
A truly gifted artist, his talent is nothing short of amazing. The world is a much better place with musicans like him on the planet sharing his talent and gift. Thank you Mr. Ant for sharing.
A very emotional, but beautiful song.
amazing song ..good composer and musician ..
I remember reading Armando Gallo’s book on Genesis and finding it hard to believe that Ant could quit. I get it now, but when I was younger I thought, man really, you’re leaving Genesis?!!!!Ant is clearly the real deal.
this beautiful song touches my heart...as does all of Ant's music.
Awesome..
I guess this is the closest we get to seeing Anthony live? Great to see him perform one of his ditties.
Dear Anthony, you and your 12 string guitar are magic :-) ...
Merci pour tout Anthony!!
A beautiful emotional song with hope for the futur.e 💛
Oh boy until you tube puts this out we may never hear this I am a big early Genesis fan Rocking horse club go go go
La mejor música
Finally it's now also possible to see him play, after so long time of just listening to his multiple albums and creations. Don't miss Ant's pastorale deep music.
Two firsts in one evening. Listening to this and sipping sherry. I've got goosebumps.
ahhhhhhhh wanderfull !!
Love his style in simplicity with expression, a true artist
Beautifull....stil remember a dey when finde a " Gees and ghousts" LP......God if I saw her now, ringing in my minde from my very youth....and my first love
Ah.....🙂💝🎶🌞
It's hard to believe that this guy and Tony Banks were in the same band together. I think everyone took it for granted.
No they didn't. When he left the band almost broke up because Ant was the driving force or the glue that held the band together musically.
Not me!
Haunting..-this artist---more than any other in my life has the ability to send me with his music to the heights and depths of where my memories live--omg ant!!!
I wonder if Ant and Steve Hackett did or ever considered making music together - if only for one album...
They already have - the charity album Harmony For Elephants includes their joint track "In A Perfect World" and Ant played on two tracks on Steve's album Out of the Tunnel's Mouth. They have also played on the same tracks on John Hackett's album Satellite, Why The Sea Is Salt by The Gift and Deconstucting Classics by Algebra. And Steve plays guitar on the version of Which Way The Wind Blows included on the Ant tribute album of the same name by Rocking Horse Music Club.
@@AntPhillipsOfficial Thanks for that info! I'm new to Ant's career outside of Genesis.
...awesome!!! I miss Genesis!!!! all them togheter!
What a beautiful song. Thank you Anthony!
Excelente
What would of Genesis sounded like if Anthony hadn’t left? When you hear his song F sharp and how it clearly became the Musical Box
I hear the early Genesis recordings in his playing.
Este gran músico no se deja ver en directo. Porque? Es extraño..
Mom. 💔
so beautiful !!!
Great song and performance. Thanks for sharing.Your music hits the spot!
Wonderful.
Love this !
magnifico, anthony Phillips es un genio
Tengo 15 LP de Anthony Philips, cuando quiero relax recurro a él,su etapa con Génesis es. Extraordinaria al igual que con Steve Hackett, otro genio.
Best regards to Anthony!
well done Ant!!!
Canção mais do que linda!
this is a real treat. thanks for posting. beautiful.
It would be great if Tony joined the band that is tributing him what a blast?
Beautiful!
Great stuff Ant.
Magnífico, extraordinário, lindíssimo, inigualável !
Very Nice,..
Feliz cumpleaños !!!!
It seems to me the Genesis music essence.
Very nice, wish my hands could do that!
The guitar part is so emotionnal... But the voice is still more taking than the music...
I see singing is quite an effort for him, but he put strenght and soul in his smooth and shy voice... That's fucking stunning...
> Watch out, that part kicked my ass and made my heart boiled in a catchy way 0:39
...
Some strange chords - and prob an alt. tuning as well, didn't check. I hope AP gets back to more vocal-based songs like this. And adds production beyond voice and gtr. Wise After the Event -along w/ 'Geese' & PP&P #2 - remains among my all-time favorites. While he's said it's unlikely he'll return to the big-scale production of those days... Given a bit of time and resident genius... he could no doubt muster something up!
Check out what Big Big Train did w/ his Master of Time song, very good.
What tuning is this? Sounds a bit like an open tuning to me
What kind of tunig is he playing?
Details of the tuning used on She'll Be Waiting along with those used on some other tracks can be found here: www.anthonyphillips.co.uk/features/tunings.htm
I’m Japanese and it’s still hard for me to understand the lyric. Correct me if I’m wrong, but is this all about his mother who’s already passed away? “ Final hour “ implies about being at the deathbed or something? Like, his mom will be waiting at the pearly gate or what?
The song was written about the wife of a friend who died unexpectedly.
I really like his playing. I have all his records. He was a better fit for Genesis than Steve.
