Thank you very much for the review, I hope another video comes out with more images. Greetings from Chile.
5:42 you can change the behavior of the shutter button to not engage AF and only use the AF ON on the back for initiating focus. This should not be an issue given your use case
Great video just a thought is the co troll ring able to be used as a toggle for af on /off rather than going into the menu ? I’m tempted to get this as a travel lens for a cruise around the Caribbean next March instead of taking the adapted ef 16-35 f2.8 L mk2
Thanks for the video....i was looking for something genre specific...
I think the lens is good for interior/real estate photography.... compared to 15-35 2.8 or 14-35 F4....it's an affordable lens at least keeping our category in mind
Thanks for this review
If you're taking photos of stationary buildings with your camera on a tripod then you can take advantage of long exposure to keep your ISO at 100 for maximum clarity.
Yes...even at 320 these images are very good. I would imagine at higher ISOs with the EOS R this lens will be just fine.
Can’t you just have it set to autoFocus in control mode and then in manual focus when you turn it from control mode to Focus on the lens? 🤔
On my canon camera, I have two options: first is the full-time auto focus with Manual focus; second is one time auto focus followed by Manual focus. not sure which camera you’re using.
If I’m planing on using this with a RP
And for real estate do you think it will be okay ?
Yes, the RP is a very good camera...you should be set!
How would you compare it with EF 16-35mm F4 images quality?
I could not really tell the difference. I was pleasantly surprised. For my purposes this lens is just as good as my 16-35 EF f/4.
Thanks 👍
How does the raw file look? Without processing, is it similar to the jpegs out of the camera? How do the Raws look when you turn off all lens aberration correction options in camera?
Thanks
The RAW files looked good to me. Again, I'm not really zooming in and picking things apart but straight out of camera they looked just as good as the images from my 16-35 f/4 lens.
Hello! would this be a better option than a rf 16mm? mainly for astrophotography?
Cheers
I know nothing about astrophotography so I would look up some specific vids about astro work. I thought most astro shooters wanted a longer focal length than 16mm?
For astrophotography, both this and the RF 16mm is bad. They have a lot of distortion, which will ruin your image. Even if you have correction, it won't be looking good.
If you want to save some money, go for the Samyang 14 2.8 EF (the manual focus one), I used that with my 6D and with my R, that lens is really great for the price.
If you want to take beautiful images go for the sigma 20 or 24 1.4, they are the best for astro.
@@NOM4D20 yes a prime will most likely be sharper in most cases. The distortion with this lens is a bit worse than the 16-35 EF lens and I've heard the 16mm 2.8 was really bad so avoided getting that as a backup and instead went with an EF 20mm 2.8.
@@NOM4D20 Thanks for the detailed answer! I actually got the 16mm 2.8 as a free bonus lens with my canon eos rp. I am very new to using cameras and only purchased one for astrophotography. I will definitely go and purchase the one of the ones that you’ve mentioned above. I have one more question, Would the redcat 71 be a good telescope for me to use with the RP for deep sky nebulae images, planets and galaxy?
Thanks in advance!
@@Lonewolf00003 I would not recommend it, because of the short focal lenght. I do some astrophotography, My father has a skywatcher 1200mm dobson, which can be used to capture small nebulae and galaxies. It has an azimutial mount (which goes horizontally and vertically with a stepping motor, so you can't do long expos), and I can do 15-30 sec expos with it, then I stack the images. For larger things, like the Andromeda, Orion which is visible for me right now, I use a 70-200 F2.8 on a tripod, then I stack the images, it's a lenghty process, but it's a hobby for me, so I didn't spend a lot on it.
What I can recommend is a EQ GOTO mount, which can follow the stars, so you can do over 5 min exposures, and also stack the images, that can improve image quality by a lot.
Also, I can recommend
Nebula Photos youtube channel, that can help you a lot
Isn't the largest aperture f/4.5 and not f/3.5? And f/4.5 to f/6.3 is 1-stop range, just like f/2.8 to f/4
You're right...I was seeing some people on YT talk about 3.5...maybe that was a different lens? Thanks for the correction...that does make me feel a little better about it though!
@@FocalPointPhotographyLLC Earlier there was rumored, that a 15-30 3.5-5.6 will come, probably you remembered that. It turned out to be this lens.
@@NOM4D20 yes that makes sense...I knew I heard about that aperture range before with this lens.
4.5-6.3 is just one stop
Bad value for money
