  • Installing a Whirlpool (stainless steel), 1.1 cu ft, 1000-watt, over-the-stove, low-profile microwave. Microwave replaced traditional range hood with fan and light. New microwave has pass thru venting, so it is similar to having a traditional range hood. Cost: $399.

    Thank you sooooo much for being very specific about every step. I watch other videos oof this microwave and they missed a lot of instructions, that I had to figure things out on my own, because the pictures they provide you with didn’t help me out like seeing it in video. I just happened to still look for a better explained videos just to make sure I didn’t miss anything or did anything wrong and found you video. Thank you again.🙏🏼

      Are you getting microwave exhaust from the top vent on the left? The one labeled C? I’m 1000% sure mine is installed correctly but that top left kicks out exhaust directly from the microwave and stinks up the whole kitchen. I have to run the fan for like a half hour after. It’s like it’s splitting it 50/50 out the top vent/roof

    This low profile microwave is pretty cool. I explained the height interior which I read was 6½ or 7".. His tallest Pyrex bowl was 4½".. For me, I definitely would have to hire an electrician for the plug as I have a hood fan over my cook top . My house was built in the late 1950's, the cabinet has a big tube- like vent straight up through to the roof. Basically, I never use those cupboards above the stove or refrigerator. Now I have Tupperware containers ( empty) with their lids . The light under this unit isn't bright enough. Maybe a nite light? Thanks for the excellent tutorial💙

      Diane, thanks for watching and commenting. This microwave is surprisingly big inside. It comes ready to vent out of roof when you buy it. If you vent it out of the wall, then you have to make some modifications. I don't know too many people that use the cupboards above the refrigerator or stove for anything. We use ours to store stuff we rarely use. The microwave does have a Hi & Lo setting. I guess you could use Lo as a nightlite.

    25:38 Installation requires at least one lag bolt to a stud to secure the plate and unit to the wall. If the stud is in the middle, use the two toggle bolts, one far left and one far right of the stud. The instructions discuss these various options based on the given stud location.

    • @RoCDIY

      Thanks for responding. What I was reading was not processing in my brain at the time. One lag bolt didn't process as the way to hold the plate and microwave on the wall. I was thinking two as a requirement to hold it securely.

      @RoCDIY  Před rokem +1

      Thanks for watching. Absolutely, it has a halogen bulb, but if you can find an LED type (produces less heat) then you can put a brighter bulb in. An LED bulb will have lower wattage output than a halogen bulb, but will be brighter (lumens).

    What’s the purpose of those vents at the top of the microwave - seems to be 4 vents? Great video, looking to buy and install

    • @RoCDIY
      @RoCDIY  Před 3 měsíci +1

      The vents can be rearranged depending on your house ventilation set-up... out the top, out the back, or vent to inside (directly from stove-top and out the top in to the kitchen) of the house. The fan pulls air and directs it differently depending on which ones are closed or open.

    • @RoCDIY
      @RoCDIY  Před 3 měsíci

      @@hrwells9698 Not sure why someone would want to vent inside the house. Blowing smoke, moisture, and cooking oil in to the house kind of defeats the purpose and can cause a lot of damage. Makes sense if it is your only choice though. Doing the venting to the outside can cost more than a microwave.

    • @RoCDIY
      @RoCDIY  Před 11 měsíci +1

      Thanks for watching and commenting. Did you follow the steps from 17:20 on? If you followed those steps you should be good, but only if you followed the steps at 12:23 to remove the metal panels and add the damper. The vent at the top left of your microwave is supposed to pull fresh air in to the microwave and exhaust it out the damper/vent to the outside of your house. If it is blowing air, then something was done incorrectly.

    • @GUNNERBASS
      @GUNNERBASS Před 4 měsíci

      @@RoCDIYconfused. Are you saying you remove the cut-outs if you exhaust out the top as well? My contractor installed a top roof vent. The back cutouts for wall venting were left intact. Both fans below suck air fine. The top vents are configured exactly as you did it. But the vent labeled C kicks out exhaust from the microwave.

    • @RoCDIY
      @RoCDIY  Před 3 měsíci

      Confirm whether it is blowing air or pulling air in. There will still be air blowing out the top left vent, but it should not be the same as what is blowing out of the dampered vent going to the outside. You should be able to hear your damper close as soon as you turn your microwave fan off. Refer to 17:20 in video to ensure your vents/covers are installed properly. Refer to page 5 of installation manual, if you have it.

    I’ve had this for over a year. What I don’t understand with this unit is why the panel labeled C ejects exhaust from the microwave? Why doesn’t it just go to the exhaust internally? It’s literally leaving a grease mark on my cabinets. I just went through the manual again triple checking it’s installed right and it is. Makes me wonder if the manual is wrong

    • @RoCDIY
      @RoCDIY  Před 4 měsíci +1

      It sounds like it is definitely not working the way you want it to. It is possible to exhaust out the back, the top, or in to the house. Not sure why anyone would want to vent in to the house, but some houses don't have the ability to vent out the top or back. The manual isn't wrong, but it is written to confuse. Watch 17:21 to 18:58 in the video to double check it.
      Are you exhausting out the top (roof) or the back (wall)? You have to use one or the other or it will exhaust out the top front.
      Verify damper is not blocked. This does happen all of the time. If the damper is blocked it will be very loud and air will blow out anywhere it can.

    Good job but there was a lot of unnecessary work here. You don’t have to remove the cabinet to put an outlet in, you don’t have to sand and paint the wall since it’ll be buried. Removing that whole section of sheetrook wasn’t necessary.

    Did you remove the carbon filter ?

    • @RoCDIY
      @RoCDIY  Před 6 měsíci +2

      Removing the carbon filter is totally up to you. Most importantly, if you are venting in to your house you will want the charcoal filter in place for odor control. Keep in mind you aren't going to get as much pull with the carbon filter in place. Also, not having the carbon filter in place will result in more gunk in microwave and venting work. I installed this one for my neighbor. I just installed the same microwave two weeks ago in my own house. Mine is vented to the outside with carbon filters removed.
