Mr. Dunlop, thank you for the refresher course! My little brother showed me how to do this 30 years ago, but I forgot most of the process....thank you sir for your video!!
I had been playing with camo techniques and done pretty good. When I seen this video of what you are doing, the one thing that really makes the job now is the second layer of cool you put on it by moving the "Template" over just a touch, and hit it with a contrasting color. Man this makes all the difference in the world. Great advice here, and I have done some great work with lots of complements from watching this video. Excellent Job!!!
I have to tell you, this one simple technique made all the difference in the world. I still come back to this video to refresh my memory. Thanks for the TIP!!!
Looks really good. That's one of the best looking camo DIY jobs I've seen thus far. Looking forward to painting my deer stand this summer using some of your techniques. Thanks for the video
Love this , especially the red added ! I too have used the old fishing net more so on metal deer stands & smaller surfaces , I'm planning on doing my camper this spring , I have yet to see a cool camo camper
came out good.....never thought about using white though. and using clear coat just takes away from the flat paint.... lol...i had a 71 ford, that i did thiss to in 2001. came out great.right now im doing a trailer.it was an old military one....... your method and tips are better than some i have seen on you tube... always start with the light colors first. the blacks adds depth and shadow...
Dave: Congratulations for your work, it's magnificent ... !! What colors did you use? Thanks for your video. I have seen many videos to learn to paint the camo, without a doubt yours is the best.
I only have about $30.00 invested in this paint job. $18.00 for the green base coat. I bought exterior flat latex paint and rolled it on. Plus 3 cans of spray flat black, white and red. Don't waste your money on the "Camo" spray paint. Best part is if (more like when) it gets scratched, all I got to do is get out the spray cans and touch it up, easy.
Taking cheap paper glue and making templates is also very easy and awesome. Lots of videos on it and when it dried its like a professional latex reusable stencil. All you have to do is take a very small amount of oil any kind rub lightly on smooth surfaces (I used glass works great) then take white paper glue (I got a bunch at Walmart back to school $0.25 each) and make a pattern and allow it to dry. After about 24hrs it will look clear and you can take a razor loosen a corner then just pull it up. It's reusable as I mentioned earlier and flexible plus you can make them as big as you like. If you use to much oil the glue will separate or run together so very lightly. I've made a bunch of them different patterns. It's easy and fun lol
Gotta say that this "CAMO" paint style series is the most creative and original to date. Great work brother. You have given me TONS of ideas! BTW IMO the clear coat that you gave to 1 portion of the rear of that boat made the camp look 3-D compared to the non clear coated side. I would do the entire boat with the CC when done! Good work!
I have thought about using RED I'm my color schemes but never tried it yet (you did the trick) also a flat GOLD will add a new aspect to the color grid IMO. I love it!
+Dan Jacob Thanks Dan. I do like the red, but it doesn't take much to make it stand out. Hmmm, Gold. I like that idea. I'm going to have to try it on my next project. I've got a lady friend that wants a stripe on her mini van. I'll run it past her. Thanks!
@@boogatrouble "imitation is the highest compliment" :-) I'm thinking to make a base layer similar in style to the one in this vid, and then some bits of sponge painting. What's fun about these projects is that if you screw it up, it's not a big deal to shoot it again. Maybe I'll do it smart, and practice it on something else first. I have a couple of good but ugly (black plastic) rifles that desperately need some help.
@smooretogo Thats funny that you bring up painting your gun stock. I was just talking to a friend about painting our muzzle loaders the other day. glad you liked the vid and thanks!!
I'm doing a 79 Bronco and trying to get as close to RealTree as possible with a Rattle Can. Any idea how to incorporate background trees , tree trunks into this? Definitely going to use your shading. :)
im doin my flat bottom boat with OD green and black and light marsh green and try to do the old ww2 german heer splinter camo design they used on their coats and helmets
Great vid! I'm thinking of painting an extra large tarp for my dad- he couldn't find any camo one big enough. This is a great tutorial. Just curious what you hunt? We go for a moose or bison. :P Thanks!
I've been pretty lucky and have been able to try many different types of wild game and I must say, I loved each and everyone of them!! Except for maybe Muskrat, it was nasty!!
@beagles1964 Have you checked out part 2? I did a camo stripe down the side of my buddies camper. Its more for show than function, but it turned out pretty cool. Its on my channel.
really nice job! best i've seen. do you have any recommendations on how to apply the foliage effects to larger surface areas? i have an old chevy 4x4 van and the body and paint are in great condition, but it has some advertising decals (removed) that have bleed into the clear coat and needs repainting. if i thought i could get anywhere near the effects you achieve i would definitely give it a try. do you have any other camo technique vids posted?
Just dont loose the net, with it blending in with the rest of the boat, lol.I've had quite a few people tell me how good it worked for them, I wish I could see their results too!
Dave...just saw the vid great job! One question tho what all prep work did you do to the boat before painting? If sanding what grit paper did you use? Thanks
I did do a lot of prep work. The boat actually had a small hole in it that had been patched before I bought it, but I re-patched it using fiberglass. Honestly, it was 5 years ago, I don't remember what grit I used. I'm thinking somewhere in the 100 range. Glad you like the vid. If you have more questions, I'd be glad to help.
I'd probably use anywhere from 250 to 600 grit depending on the surface but the paint will look better the higher grit paper the smoother and better it will look. Most decent spray paints will bond well to a lightly scuffed surface.
awesome job!! , hey i like when you said it is great for hiding dents and bruises, because i have about 10 or sooo bruises on my canoe ha ha !! question, any tips on the best way to hide them nasty dents or is that another video?
Hey! It sounds like your making a few bucks using my technique!! HaHaHa just kidding, but I'm always willing to accept a cut of the profits! I'm glad you like it and thanks for the compliments!
Dave, thanks for the reply a lot of people don't respond to older posts. so i'm guessing once you sanded you just wiped it down with some cleaner... i have an enclosed trailer that needs a makeover was just curious on some steps that i haven't been able to find here. again thanks. for some reason i can't reply to your message you sent
larry e I did wipe it down, but just with water and let it dry. The boat was pretty beat up but the camo really helped cover up the imperfections. I wouldn't worry to much about the small imperfections honestly. I would like to see your trailer when your done with it.

I know it's an old vid, but I dig that shadow effect you did about halfway through. I'm totally going to steal that.

Honestly, I got lucky and found the paint in the discounted rack. It was green, so i grabbed it, cheap. I think its a bit darker than olive drab tho.

Your welcome. But now I wanna see yr tracker!
Been friends with this dude over 10 years and today is the first day I found out he’s a CZcams celebrity
"Celebrity"? Hardly.
Thank!
Thank you, what did you try it on?
just a heads up. instead of using netting. try some fraid burlap. it is AMAZING for any duck boat patterns or a just plain copol looking camo.
Glad you liked it. Let me know how it turns out.
Shadow it with a tan. It would look better than white.
I think your right if I was to use it for Duck hunting. But its just suppose to look good, lol.
sehr cool und einfach..Topp to making i am loven it!!!
different. good job
Thanks.
awesome video
Reed's OutDoors Thank you

How did it turn out?
I think it looks great, screw that other guy!
why are you painting the bottom of the boat? just curious :)
@beagles1964 So how did your truck turn out?
awesome job!! , hey i like when you said it is great for hiding dents and bruises, because i have about 10 or sooo bruises on my canoe ha ha !! question, any tips on the best way to hide them nasty dents or is that another video?

Don't hold back... t ell us how you really feel
grazie!
haha I don't doubt it. The weirdest thing I ever ate was lynx chili. Tasty, but really weird...
this boat was pretty beat up when I got it. So its just for looks.
I've been trying to come up with an idea for a tree pattern for a long time, but got nothing that will work. Sorry.
boom!
i haven't yet as the original 1 intended is under going a silver penned Satch style squiggle affair.
il get back 2 you! :)
Haha, I like that- you must get to taste some really cool meat that way!
Never had lynx, that's gotta be weird for sure!
mean dude thanks for the primus too .. fish on
wade nicholls Thanks!
How did you get parallel lines using a net as a stencil?
The net itself makes the lines, But maybe you saw the lines created by the grass stalks I used as a stencil
12:25 dog faces in the paint
tigers?
i like it, natural camo for natural place, cool !! i" ll try whith my beach buggy, thanks
