Hermoine is born from non magic parents/Muggles. The same way Harry's mom was born from Muggle Parents. This happens, just like it is possible for magic parents to have a non magic child, they call them Squibs, you will meet a squib in this movie.

That duelling sequence bugs me to this day... Who in the directing department thought it would make sense for three different spells to do the exact same thing?
    - Expelliarmus is supposed to just throw your opponent's wand out of their hand.
    - Everte Statio is not a thing in the source books, but if I remember my Latin correctly, that actually does throw your opponent off their feet.
    - Rictusempra is supposed to send your opponent into a laughing fit, thus disabling them.
(plus, in the book, one of the two (I can't recall which one right now) casts "Tarantallegra", which causes your opponent to dance an uncontrollable jig)
Yet, somebody on the directing team decided "Ah yes, let's just make it so three entirely different spells all just yeet a guy through the air"...

Hermione, just like Harry’s mother Lilly, is Muggle Born, meaning her parents are Muggles. I don’t think there is ever an official explanation how that works , but I think it is assumed Muggle Borns would have had a magical ancestor somewhere in their family trees.

In the scene were Draco asks Goyle why he was wearing glasses he actually forgot his next line and improvised by say 'i didnt know you could read' the director loved it and left it in. Also the actor playing Crabbe accidentaly started to get up and clap but wasn't supposed to. Tom Felton (Draco) pulls him down and again the director thought it fit soo didnt do a retake. Great reaction again. 👍
    To explain the "Bloodstatus":
    - Pureblood - both parents, grandparents and so on (as known) are magical. Obviously Malfoy, but Ron as well comes from such an line even if they are poor and don't believe in the superiority of it.
    - Mugleborn - both parents are not magical like in Hermione"s case.
    - Halfblood - one of the parents is non-magical or in Harry's case his mother was a witch but Mugleborn. So even when his father comes from an old rich Pureblood family Harry still is considered a Halfblood. And yes, the Dark Whizard obsessed by blood purity Voldemort was in fact the Halfblood Tom Riddle.
    - Squib - a non-magical child born to magical parents (the opposite of Mugleborn). Filch the caretaker is a Squib.
It's not so obvious as in the books but the Dursleys practically use Harry as a free of charge servant, basically a slave or "House-Elf". So even as much as they hate to have him around they don't want to miss all the work he is doing instead of them.

Amazing reaction Jake! You made some good observations. Your question about what Dumbledore meant regarding Voldemort’s things making their way into Hogwarts when speaking to Malfoy will be answered in subsequent movies (don’t want to give any spoilers) . The reason you had fewer clues in this movie is because this is the basis of a more convoluted story. It will make sense later - sort of. The books do a much better job of answering most questions but the movies are great. Enjoy the journey!!!

Dobby can't just tell Harry what is going on and what the plan is that endangers him. Dobby was magically bound to obey his Master/Owner (before Harry helped free him at the end). Lucius Malfoy was planning to open the Chamber of Secrets, and ordered Dobby beforehand to not reveal his Master's secrets. Dobby's actions throughout the book/film are his way of finding a loophole in order to still try and save Harry without directly telling him any details.

Thank you for the message at the end of the video. Definitely struck a chord with me, and pls do keep repeating it as a reminder. I feel like a lot of us would benefit from hearing it again. As for the movie, Chamber of Secrets is my least favorite too, however it contains my favorite HP quote out of all the books/movies: “it is our choices, Harry, that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities.” Dumbledore says it a bit differently in the movie but the meaning is the same.

Some questions you asked and some other important information (without spoilers)
So basically muggle parents can have magical children and vice versa. Harry's mother was also muggle born, just like Hermione. The caretaker at Hogwarts, Filch, is a squib (non magic born to magic parents). So basically when Hermione would have received her letter to Hogwarts, somebody from the school would have explained all this to her parents. Also the magic world and muggle world co-exist together and it's not like Narnia where the world is totally different. Muggles don't notice these things because all entrances to a magical place have different enchantments. For example if somebody tries to go to the Leaky Cauldron (the pub leading to Diagon Alley) they might remeber something very important they forgot to do but as Hermione's parents would have been told about all this, they would be able to enter.
Hermione says "Fear of the name increases the fear of the thing itself". In the books Dumbledore said this in the hospital wing scene at the end of the first part when Harry calls Voldy You-Know-who. In the movies they gave a lot of great lines to Hermione. A lot of Ron's stuff as well. Ron was hard done in the movies and only used as comic relief in initially.
The car starts behaving wonky on reaching Hogwarts due to so much magical energy in Hogwarts from so many witches and wizards. Magic interferes with muggle technology, hence they don't have phones etc. Also why Colin's camera is 'ancient' to say the least.
Wands are different and can't be fixed with magic. That is why Ron is trying to mend his wand with cellotape but it also doesn't work like that and that is why his wand keeps misfiring throughout the book at various points. Another fun fact- Ron's wand was handed down to him and belonged to his older brother Charlie (weasley's are poor and most of Ron's things are hand-me-downs). He did get his own wand after this book and his magical ability also iproved. Remember Ollivander the wand guy said, 'The wand choses the wizard'.
    Great job guessing it's a snake :)
Sherbet lemon is just a muggle candy. Most passwords to Dumbly's office are funny in this manner
Harry's upbringing made him mistrust adults which seems stupid to us now but as a 12 year old confused kid, it might make sense to Harry not to trust adults. That is why he easily confides in Ron and Hermione.
"Your Dad left this in my possession before he dies. Use it well."
Fun Fact: Ron hates spiders and is afraid because Fred and George transformed his favourite teddy bear into a live spider when he was small.
Bravery gets you into Gryffindor, Ravenclaws are intelligent, Hufflepuffs are hard working, Slytherins have ambition, and are sly and cunning. The other houses also have more than one qualities but these are the main ones.
Let me know if you have any other questions that I might have missed out. :)

I’m not sure if this has been answered or not, but Percy and Tom Riddle (Voldemort’s real name) are prefects. There are two students selected by the headmaster or headmistress in their 5th year to serve as a Hogwarts prefect, a boy and a girl. These two individuals continue to serve as prefects for the remainder of their time at school, so each house has 6 prefects, and a total of 24 prefects in all. Prefects are basically the “hall monitors” as you stated, but they do have other duties: they attend to the first years, patrol the halls after curfew, they also can give detentions for bad behavior. Each year a single boy and girl is selected by the headmaster or headmistress to serve as head boy and head girl, these individuals are 7th year students, but not from each house, there is only a single boy and girl selected out of all the 7th year students. The head boy and girl oversee the prefects, they too can also give detentions but they can also deduct house points for bad behavior. Prefects and especially the head boy and girl are selected based on academic merit, overachieving potential, superb behavior, etc. In a nutshell, the head boy and girl are basically the valedictorians of their 7th year class.
They didn’t explain this in the movies at all, but Hermione and Ron become prefects in their 5th year for Gryffindor (this would be Order of the Phoenix). Why not Harry? Dumbledore did want to select Harry for prefect, but he thought that Harry had too much going on with Voldemort and whatnot, that making him prefect would have been too much of a burden. Plus Dumbledore knew that Harry and Voldemort were mind linked, so the less Harry did, the better.

He was feeling very insecure about everything, thinking about what Ron and Hermione had said about hearing voices no one else could hear, and the Sorting Hat having just told him he would have done well in Slytherin. He basically just didn't know what to tell Dumbledore.

It's quite a simple explanation why Harry does not confide in Dumbledore. Throughout the books/movies it becomes very clear that Harry doesn't have much faith in adults, for good reason. Growing up with the Dursleys he has ingrained in his mind that adults are not to be trusted to have his back ever

As far as I remember (it's been awhile since I read the books), the Polyjuice potion isn't described as being thick or chunky as it's portrayed in the movies - in the books it also changes color as determined by the individual whose hair is added. There was a character in the books whose potion turned gold when the hair was added and was referenced as 'looking really tasty' by someone lol
'Are you the heir of Slytherin?' I had to laugh out loud at that, also, I wish I had half as good penmanship as Tom does!

Another stellar reaction, sir! I will agree with what others have told you; this is not the best HP movie. None of the movies are bad, but this one is definitely my least favorite. I get really bugged when people constantly compare the books and the movies so I won't other than to say that Dobby was featured much more prominently in the books and I wish he was in the films more than he is. I hope you don't consider that a spoiler.

    something about clues (no spoilers):
    1) one of the first things we learn about house elves is that they can't speak badly about their masters. And Dobby started to stutter and punish himself every time Harry had asked him about the plot ;)
    2) in the book it's also mentioned that Ginny has a personal diary, and she was really sad about all the stuff being done, but everyone just assumed that she was nervous or had cold, or just too empathetic (loved cats, camera boy was her friend and so on). They had shown her a couple of times in the movie, but didn't manage to give a hint that way
    3) and the one of most important ones: there were no attacks at all while Harry had the diary and they restarted as soon as someone stole it from him. Also in the book there is a scene just before it with Ginny seen Harry with the diary and been terrified, but like I sad before, we just assume that there is another reason for this...
so if you read carefully (and watch even more carefully) you can guess where it all would go, just like in previous one :3
    Hope that helps!

Great reaction! 😍 Loved how you were catching onto the musical themes within certain scenes, and as always, appreciating John Williams’ score. It’s perfect for this series!
There were def more clues about Ginny in the book, so don’t feel bummed you didn’t catch any in the movie! Also… your suspicions about the Malfoys, Hagrid, and Harry himself, were all spot on with what we were supposed to think (from Harry’s POV) in the books. If you’re loving the story so far, you should check out the books someday! The world is so much more rich and detailed and magical than even the movies show! 🤩

Loving these reactions! Your commentary is so funny and you really do pick up on details others miss. Since you asked for fun facts, here are a few:
Tom Felton who plays Draco ad libbed the line, “I didn’t know you could read” to Harry disguised as Goyle because Tom forgot his line. They ended up liking it so much, it made it into the movie.
Also Daniel Radcliffe who plays Harry also ad libbed the line “don’t worry, I will be” to Lucious at the end of the movie.
There is another fun fact about that scene but I don’t want to spoil it in case you watch the Harry Potter 20 year reunion after finishing the series (which you totally should and react to it! It’s so emotional). Jason Isaacs who plays Lucious has a story about that scene and it’s great.
In case no one has mentioned it, the first two movies were directed by Christopher Columbus. The third is directed by Alfonso Cuarón so you’ll notice a tone shift but it fits the Prisoner of Azkaban story so well, very different than the first two.
Also, very unfortunately, Richard Harris who played Dumbledore in the first two movies, died shortly after filming this movie so he is replaced with Michael Gambon who does a fantastic job as well. Can’t wait to see you continue on the journey! They get darker each time from here!

'Sherbet lemon' often confuses people who aren't British or live somewhere heavily influenced by Britain's colonisation (eg Australia for me). A sherbet lemon is a very traditional type of sweet (or 'candy' for Americans). They have a hard outer shell with a fizzy sour 'sherbet' centre. Sherbet for us is a sweet fizzy powder, hard to explain if you've not had it I suppose? Whereas a 'lemon sherbet/sherbert' like what you said is a frozen dessert right? We kind of had it here in Australia too when I was younger, since Australia really gets influenced by British and American culture/foods etc. I see a lot of people react to Harry Potter movies or books and think that certain things mentioned in the story are from the 'magical' fictional universe, when they are really just real British or Irish things ahaha - like foods, people's names, phrases or words, places etc.

Harry has to return to his Aunt’s house every summer for his own protection. The movies don’t mention it but the books explain that Dumbledore placed a protective enchantment on Harry that requires him to live with a blood relative of his mother’s - her sister, Petunia. To keep the enchantment in place Harry must return to Privet Drive for a few weeks every summer. Petunia knows about the enchantment. That’s why she took Harry despite her resentment of Lily. In the books Vernon did tell Harry to get out at one point but Petunia intervened & told Vernon that Harry had to stay.
Magical abilities are inherited though recessive genes. You must get two - one from each parent in order to be magical.
Muggles & Squibs (a person born to magical parents who don’t have any powers) can pass down the magical gene to their children even if they don’t have any magic themselves
Wizards do not discriminate based on skin. A few judge others based on Blood Status - how many magical ancestors one has.
Pureblood: no Muggle ancestry. There are a few Pureblood families called the Sacred 21.
These 21 families include Malfoy, Longbottom, Weasley, Black, Lestrange and Prewett (Mrs. Weasley’s maiden name).
Half Blood: both wizard & muggle ancestry. Most witches & wizards are Half Bloods including Harry, Dumbledore, Snape & even Voldemort himself.
Muggleborn: a witch or wizard born to non magical parents. Muggleborns are quite common. Hermione, Harry’s mother Lily, Dumbledore’s mother Kendra, Colin Creavy and Justin Finch-Fletchley are all Muggleborn. Mudblood is a derogatory word for Muggleborn. It’s basically the wizard N word.
Squibs: a person who is born to magical parents but doesn’t have any magical abilities themselves. It’s believed a spontaneous mutation on one of the magical genes blocks its effects so the person doesn’t have any magical powers. Squibs are quite rare & are encouraged to join the Muggle world. Only 3 are mentioned in the books, the Hogwarts caretaker Argus Filch (man with the cat), Arabella Figg and Mrs. Weasley’s cousin who works as an accountant. It’s believed that Squibs are ancestors of Muggleborns. They integrate into Muggle society & pass their unaffected magical gene down to their descendants & when two Muggle descendants of Squibs produce a child that child will have magical powers AKA - a Muggleborn.

The books do a much better way of saying this but I'll give it my best. like they said in the scene with Hagrid. Hermione is muggle-born meaning sometimes non-magical families could produced a magical child. This is the same as Harry's mother Lilly. (I have no problem adding this because it's never mentioned in the movies only in the books) you find out that the caretaker filch is a squib. A squib the opposite it is a magical family that produces a non-magical child. Both scenarios are kinda rare but it does happen.

29:48 Regarding your confusion about Harry not telling Dumbledore here, this might help understand Harry's perspective a bit more when it comes to adults in general. At this point, Harry has spent 11 of his 12 years on Earth being horribly mistreated by the adults in his life, and completely unable to trust them. In the books, you see that the Dursleys aren't the only people who are awful to him - other adults believe the Dursleys when they say awful things about Harry, and took THEIR side if certain things ever came to light. No one has ever rescued this poor kid from the abuse, and it has always been Harry looking out for himself. I think it's a hard mindset to break, especially after only one year of things being slightly good for Harry - even just last year, one of his teachers actually tried to end him, another was mean to him constantly, and the other 'nice' adults didn't believe Harry at every turn!
