I'm not sure if this was irony or not, but the pro-feminist grunge spirit that was still present at WS1994 was replaced in many cases by the dudebro machismo of Nu-Metal (and related things) at WS1999, and the rest is history. Some of the worst stuff happened just before this, in Korn's audience. I'm not saying that Korn were known for misogyny per se, but they attracted much of the same crowd at the time as Limp Bizkit/Kid Rock/ICP etc.
