  • Certain groups have been trying to paint Egyptians as a racist people just because we are defending our country against culture theft. That is not TRUE! All foreigners, especially our African brothers and sisters are treated with kindness and respect when they come to our country. Here is an African sister speaking up on the RACISM she NEVER faced while living in Egypt (:

If you look at ancient maps of Africa you’ll find it was the Europeans that first called Africans black. The early explorers had no idea what the interior of Africa was like and early maps depicted “negro-land” literally translated as “black land” which includes parts of what is now, North Africa. The Northern coast was known as the Barbary coast, where the name berber comes from. These berbers amongst others are descended from black Garamantees who lived in the Sahara in antiquity documented by the Romans. Herodotus acknowledged the fact that black people were indigenous to the land. Egypt was also united with modern Sudan now considered “black”. Post colonial Africa has now been divided up by Europe to keep so-called Sub saharan Africa black, despite well trodden routes between Mali and Morocco, Ethiopia and Egypt, there was no barrier in the past!

I'm sorry you had such a bad experience! and I apologise on my behalf I'm an Egyptian too, most people you will meet there are really nice and won't try to take you for your money and will even advise you to negotiate the prices with the vendors note that this stuff happens to Egyptians too and we have a special way of dealing with it to prevent it from happening, they know your foriegn and dont know the proces well so they take that as an advantage and im really sorry again honestly most Egyptians are great it's just the vendors that love to operate that way

    • @cookieisland23_mew-55

Some advice with how to deal with this situation is that try to get the perspective of a local Egyptian on the prices that they would buy these things with before buying them so you have an idea about the actual price then when you go to buy something if the vendor gives you a high price or tries to persuade you into buying something you don't want stand your ground firmly and leave or tell them that you would only buy the item for x price take it or leave it and if they still don't agree leave the shop most likely they'll call you back and change the price cause they don't want to lose a customer, try to stand your ground but make it as polite as you can 😂

I'm sorry you had to experience this. Egyptians warn visitors all the time from the 'wandering sellers' because they're greedy, ignorants, and most of the time are actually scams. So If you visited Egypt again, make sure to buy from specialised shops for souvenirs that are recommended by many other people and not from random sellers. A lot of these sellers are at the pyramids and we sometimes give the tourists who don't have a guide hints by saying "don't don't" repeatedly 😅

And then she told me maybe you don't understand because of the thing you're covering your head. As a Muslim person in my own country, I've never felt this much discrimination. In the end, she even told me that you look like the devil because I was wearing a red hijab. I really hate when they come to our country expecting everyone to treat them like first-class meanwhile they don't even show any respect for our religion and culture. Unfortunately, this is not my first bad experience with a black person of course they're the really good ones that I'm friends with but would be a minority compares to the racist ones. Thank you, beautiful lady. You said everything that needed to be said. As a Ghanaian who spent most of my life in Canada, I never experienced any kind of racism or discrimination from anyone except from the black Jamaicans. Many of them are unpleasant to live among, and yet they think everyone is racist toward them. The energy you give out will be returned back to you.

Excuse me?? Please redirect your argument. First, this does NOT describe Jamaicans. We are not racially obsessed.
Second, there is a huge issue with ignorance in Canada where everyone with an accent is assumed to be Jamaican when this is not the case. Leave Jamaica out of it. Thank you.

Bahahah what? Please go outside the city centres and then come back. This is a gross comment to read as a Canadian of East African descent. Caribbean people are some of the kindest most welcoming people. There are a LOT of racist Canadians. Go to places where they have First Nation people and youll be shocked. The only difference is that they are trained to be “nice” to your face but as a “not real Black person” to them, its appalling what they believe about Black people. I will NEVER live outside a city again. When they have numbers and have like 1 drink, it ALL comes out. No more fake niceness. But in smaller towns, its blatant! So stop putting down other Black people for no reason.

Funny because the few african guys I knew grewing up only really hung around jamaicans lol. Jamaicans can get rowdy but racist, Ive yet to see much of that. Maybe thats the new generation thats been indoctrinated by western ideals? Because its only those places that think this way (especially liberal canada). But as someone with carribbean parents and family in east africa, theres a lot of commonalities as far as their views on race and values are concerned. Not saying it cant exist but Ive yet to hear of incidents that youve described

Canada is not North Africa. They don't believe they're Africans so the sight of a subsaharan African is disgusting to them. Their police can be something else.
Racism is condemned in Canada but in those African Arab nations, it's condoned. You could be killed for just being black and nothing will happen, no one would be arrested.
Don't mind the black lady, she's probably been paid or married to an Egyptian and wants a good PR for them.

@@syw9882 Canadians think you might be Jamaican because the Carribean population in certain Canadian cities is very high. This is ignorance, yes, but this is nowhere near on the level of true racism and doesn't mean you should have a bad impression of Canada. I have a friend that has travelled all over Africa and he says that people always think he's American because he's white, when he's actually German... he gets very similar treatment in Asia as well. It's like this everywhere in the world, because some of the most populus tourists and travellers are Americans.
Also, as someone who has grown up around a bunch of Trinis, Jamaicans and Haitians, I agree that most of them are not racially obsessed, however I did have a few friends that were, especially if they were born in Canada but had Carribean parents straight from the homeland. The mentality of victimhood is way more pervasive amongst younger Trinis and Jamaicans than it is from the elders, which is why Canada needs to stop pandering to racial division like the US does. You don't want us to bring Jamaicans into this? I don't want you bringing my country, Canada into this. Out of the US and Canada, Canada is far less racist and black people consistantly report not feeling any sort of racism while being here... I won't have you slander my own nation. Thank you.

How would you feel if a group is trying to erase your ethnicity by saying that because you're not black, you're not African, claiming to 're-tell' African story by only taking into account east Africans and ignoring the rest non nubian people?. Its not a treatment thing its a don't erase me or rewrite my hostory for me thing, basically tell it how it was not how you wish it to be.

@Y0utubeIsFuckingHomo You're kidding me right now. You think this is a recent thing like the Netflix Cleopatra crap. This has been happening long before that take your own advice and go read. I'll give you a basic example any neanderthal gets,go and ask a person what an African looks like and see what results you get and tell me why is that, you'll be surprised that not just American propaganda agenda is involved in it.
I won't deny that North Africa has unresolved slavery and explotation of foreigners( not just black but many other ethnicities as well) for free labor but that's not a because you're black it's more because you're a poor non Muslim person that I can exploit for my personal gain. I'm sure there's racism there, too, like anywhere else it's not an Middle east thing only. The worst enemy of blacks are other blacks, more than any other ethnicity, sadly; one tribe will enslaved another for power and dictatorship.
