I couldn't believe that Sterling Marlin got a bunch of death threats over this....Dale knew as every driver does that anytime they climb into the car it could be their last time... to blame another driver that had no control of what is happening around him is ludicrous... besides if you watch close, Dale came down into Sterling, trying to block.... and it cost him his life...

I can still remember the rumors my classmates told me during 9/11 and without sudden access to media, you weren't sure at the time what to believe. However OP is completely right here.
For me, Dale Earnhardt's actual greatest career moment was his class move on May 1, 1994 in offering his respects on the passing of Formula 1's - perhaps motor racing's - greatest ever driver. In fact, NASCAR conducted itself with great dignity that day in showing its respect for the passing of Ayrton Senna, acknowledging that the motor sport World had just had a painful hole ripped in it. The same was true when NASCAR's most fierce, determined driver died in February 2001 at Daytona. A legend.
I remember this so well. I wasnt into nascar. My mom was and she was a huge Earnhardt fan. I wasnt feeling well that day so I took a shower and went to lay down. No sooner did I hit the bed I hear my mom scream out "Noooooo! Oh god damn it!!" I keep laying there. Eventually I hear her scream to my dad "Hes not getting out! He always gets out! Anytime he wrecks he gets out and just walks away. Hes hurt! " So I get up and go to the living room and ask "what the hell you going on about?" She tells me dale had a bad wreck and they are cutting him out. I say Im sure hes fine and that hell walk it off once hes cut out (I was 17). I go back to my room. My mom cries out again that he was put on an ambulance. I go back out and my mother is visibly upset. Shes crying and going "this isnt good. Im telling ya hes critical. They would have said something if it was a broken leg. They would have said something if he was alive. Hes dead. I know it." Told my mom she was over reacting (Mom was a 20 year nursing vet by this point). I sit down and it wasnt long until they made the announcement. Like it was yesterday.
I know he was dead instantly the impact was so loud and I can't even describe it and all the seagulls Wentz can birds when scattering like crazy that tells you how loud that single hit was and then Kenny Schrader's reaction the nut not Delta and drop the window in that Kenny picked inside of it and then freaked out and started frantically waving for the for the rescue crew and buddy of mine was in one of the ambulances for training and he happened to be in that corner and he said he was dead as soon as he hit the wall instantly he was killed instantly

There is no question whatsoever that in NASCAR he was the Greatest...BUT the Best RACE DRIVER in the World EVER was by NO DOUBT: Mr. AYRTON SENNA DA SILVA!! RIP the both of them.
Well, gdub454, the reason why Dale didn't walk away is because when his car hit the wall, his head went forward and hit the steering wheel causing the fatal injury to his head at the base of his skull, killing him pretty much instantaneously. Many of the drivers who walked away after a flip and roll accident did so because much of the sheet metal on the car dissipated during the accident, as was the case of Davey Allison at Pocono in 1992 and Rusty Wallace in both his Daytona and Talladega wrecks in 1993, thus leading NASCAR to mandate the use of roof flaps to keep such accidents from happening again. In order to avoid another accident like the one that killed Dale Earnhardt, NASCAR mandated the use of closed-face helmets and Head and Neck Support (HANS) devices and later ordered the installation of safer barriers at all of their tracks.
Yep. That basilar skull fracture that he had sustained when he hit the wall killed him instantly. And I'm sorry if you don't wanna hear this but when I wrote this comment to you, my eyes were watering up. :(
@@Jesusislord3334 True, his harness was broken. Apparently he was fined multiple times in the past for taking it off during the final lap of some races. Definitely wasn't just the impact - plenty of drivers before him have done the same thing or much, much worse and survived. Something was wrong with that harness.
Alot of the drivers chose not to wear the HANS device. But not wearing a full face helmet that should have already been the rule. Dale did what he wanted to. In the end his choices cost him his life.

People, Dale Sr. died instantly from a "Basilar Skull Fracture" - a break at the base of the skull where it attaches to the spinal column...Ironically, the same injury took the life of his friend Neil Bonnett and likely caused the death of other racers...YES, a HANS device probably would've save him. He didn't hit the steering wheel, his belts held his body still while hitting the wall violently moved his head forward, snapping his head from his spine. My brother died of the same injury...
MySavedVideos, Dale Sr. had his harness installed in his own special way. When he hit the wall, the forces caused the left side of the harness to break. Kenny Schrader never made contact with Earnhardt until he got loose and went up towards the wall, rusty missed him, he made the contact clear as day was Sterling Marlin, but you can’t blame that man for Earnhardt’s death
My husband said Dale was fined countless times by nascar for unbuckling his harness on the last lap of ever RACE now I see why he had such awful injuries when he died. RIP intimidater you are surely missed.
No, the reason Dale Earnhardt died is because when he hit the wall 5 places in his seat belt broke and caused it to snap in half. He then hit his head on the steering wheel (with an open faced helmet) and it cracked his skull and 20 different things in the same area. He died of severe head injuries. Besides that he broke his arm I think. Or his leg? Not sure. Go look up his autopsy report.
Show some respect. You don't have to watch this video. Gordon himself looked up to and respected him. I don't care if you are an Earnhardt fan or not you shouldn't say crap like that about anyone. He was a legend and an american hero. Grow up and next time keep your dimmented thoughs to your self.

Show some respect. You don't have to watch this video. Gordon himself looked up to and respected him. I don't care if you are an Earnhardt fan or not you shouldn't say crap like that about anyone. He was a legend and an american hero. Grow up and next time keep your dimmented thoughs to your self.
Rip Dale Earnhardt
Still and will always be the man in black
@ 1:03 if they had today's 4k imagery we'd probably see if he did break a belt and hit his wheel. Sad either way also conflicted about weather he should've had a cam in his car...
I think if you look closely, you can see Dale lurch forward upon impact.
@fxdwgdogg Oh yeah that injury where he had surgey of two vertibra bones. Forgot about that! I just remember all ive ever heard was he died in the hospital and im not new to this either. or nascar so i know all about the hans device and everything
1:48 I Find It Interesting That Warren Johnson And Dale Earnhardt Sr Were Both Sponsored By Gm Goodwrench
@midatlanticcycle Does it hurt little man? Does it hurt that despite whatever your grudge is against him, a generation will always love Dale Earnhardt, Sr. as a hero, and no one beyond your front door will give a shit when you die? Does that just eat you alive? Does it make life less worth living knowing that no matter how much you hate, it will do NOTHING to change reality? Doesnt that just suck for you?
@screaming355 no we don't.
Fox45 news! you know, i always get chills when i see anything about a racer, retired or current, passing.
I was five and remember thinking how his hood looked like paper and then after Michael won, just asked my dad when we were going to the zoo... I didn't know what happened until we got out of the zoo and we were on the highway when they announcement was made... Sad day...
*Time bubble arrives February 18, 2001*
"Dale, listen to me. Do not get into that car. Please, trust me. Don't do this race."
not gonna lie i cried when this happened, and i was only like 10
Rip Dale
It was Sterlin Marlin who hit Earnhardts car to get it loose...not Schrader
MATT ALCON finally someone gets it right!
Thats what happens when you undo your straps before the race is over.
luv ya to

Anyone ever heard of Ayrton Senna, Michael Schumacher, Stirling Moss, Juan Manuel Fangio, Jim Clark, Mario Andretti, Alain Prost, Mika Häkkinen, etc. etc. etc...?
Ferrariman601 yes so what's your point ??? He was one of the best in his profession...as far as F1 is concerned Jeff Gordon proved they werent that hard to drive...
