Since 1968, the LGBT movement has made significant inroads into the Christian church. The affirming church movement has become mainstream through the erosion of mainline denominations. Queer theology has taken hold in many academic settings. The emergence of “gay celibate theology” is causing confusion in evangelical churches through its appeal to modern psychology and LGBT-lived experience. How did we get here? What does the Bible say about all of this?

Becket Cook was born and raised in Dallas, Texas. He attended Jesuit College Preparatory
School of Dallas. After graduating from Austin College in Texas, Becket moved to Los Angeles to pursue his dream of writing and acting, finding success in both. He eventually went on to become a production designer working with the top photographers and directors in the world on fashion shoots for magazines such as Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar, and for ad campaigns such as Gap, L'Oréal Paris, and Nike.
Finding a new sense of freedom in L.A., Becket also fully engaged in his new life as a gay man. He had a series of many relationships with men throughout the next fifteen years.
In September of 2009, Becket met a stranger at a coffee shop in Silver Lake who invited him to his church in Hollywood called Reality L.A. Becket reluctantly agreed to attend the service. After hearing the sermon that Sunday, Becket was utterly transformed by the gospel and gave his life to Christ. He also knew on that day when God revealed Himself to him that homosexuality was a sin and that he could no longer live that life. Becket was more than happy to count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus his Lord.
Becket spends much of his time in ministry speaking at churches, universities, and conferences helping believers (and non-believers) understand this issue biblically, theologically, culturally, and personally. Balancing grace and truth when teaching on this subject is of primary importance. His goal is to challenge the current cultural narrative about sexuality in general and homosexuality in particular by demonstrating through his personal testimony and biblical truths that, yes, homosexuality is still a sin, and that following Christ is infinitely more satisfying and joyous.
He has lived all over the world in major cities such as Rome, Vienna, and Tokyo.
Becket graduated from Talbot School of Theology at Biola University in 2017 with a Master of Arts in Theology.

As a Christian, who came out of the lifestyle, I went through many of the phases that you and your guest spoke about. However, it comes down to one thing... sin, and if we embrace sin in any form, then we are not doing the will of our Father. Thank you, gentlemen! God bless!

@@Joliebebe2001 There have been many, many Christians who have chosen to leave the lifestyle and have rich, meaningful, relationships with members of the opposite gender, some resulting in marriage and raising a family. However, some people choose to have friendships, and are happy to serve the Lord while remaining single. The main issue is a relationship with Jesus, and being born again of the Spirit. If one is faithful, God will direct their path, whether to marry or remain single. I praise Lord Jesus everyday for saving me from my sins, giving me peace that surpasses all understanding, and everlasting life in heaven. As a Christian man that has lived and left the homosexuality lifestyle myself, I have found the conversation extremely relevant. I hope this momentum continues. Keep up the good work man.
What lead to you viewing your homosexuality as a lifestyle instead of an identity? I find your testimony amazing. I know people who go to lgbtq+ affirming churches. They say that our interpretation of the Bible is wrong. They say we read our biases into the Bible and the verses ( thought to condemn lgbtq+) are about pedophila. How were you able to push pass the temptation to have your faith validate your sexual desire?
@@Topg1 God says that all that want to be with him, We must get our cross and follow him. I see my sexuality as my cross, one that I choose to give it to Jesus. My flesh doesn't simply stop wanting to be pleased, but I choose everyday to deny it and be closer to God instead. Nothing that I experienced when living in homosexuality brought me happiness, only losses and pain, no temporary pleasure of the flash compares to the maginitude of the joy I have living with Jesus and his plans for my life.

Spend 90% of your time reading, listening to, singing (the Biblical truths found in worship songs and hymns) and chewing over the Bible - with prayer - thus walking in the Spirit as we're commanded to do (Galatians 5 & 6) and you won't be even close to being swayed by the world's view.
The more time we spend in Truth, the more we see lies and want to avoid them because we know who is behind them (John 8:44).
(I'm also assuming of course that you are born of the Spirit - as Jesus says we "must" be in John 3 and that the Holy Spirit indwells: John 14:16-17, Romans 8:9 etc) and that therefore you don't spend a lot of time with worldly people. The Holy Spirit keeps us from doing so because he "sets us apart": which is the meaning of "holy").

For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world" (1 John 2:15-16)

Yes, I agree, so thankful for how the Lord is using Beckett and others who are standing for truth on this issue. I started listening to Beckett a couple of years ago to help me understand how to share truth with my homosexual coworkers. Now I have a child and family members buying into the world’s (Satan’s) view on this sin. So many Christians believing the lie that God is somehow ok with the sexual sin of homosexuality. Really they are just creating a false god to worship. Jesus is the Word. Jesus is the Truth. Jesus is the only Way. Only truth will set them free. We have to stay strong in truth.

I fasted for a gay friend and the whole LGBT community. I had a dream that night that I was in a dark dungeon looking room and I saw my couch filled with white large stones. I saw them all together and they’re numbers are small. There was 4 stones glowing but trapped under the first layer of stones. God is working on this group of people but only a few will make it out. Pray for them❤

However, don't forget God led and guided through dreams many times in the Bible . Also , Acts 2:17. This person who posted was seeking the Lord and getting desperate for Jesus' lost sheep . If you ask for bread of God, you won't get a stone, if you are seeking Him. I'm not trying to be contentious, but if said person who had the dream checks out with Godly counsellors in his/ her faith base then they can trust the Lord that the dream is from our Heavenly Father .
The dream seems to me to be something that encourages and edifies - even in stirring up the rest of us to pray more and be desperate for this needy community to come to the Light - Jesus Christ.
God still speaks in dreams, just ask the lord what He wants you to understand and take away from it

I only recently discovered the B side thing that was mentioned. The idea of calling oneself a gay Christian never appealed to me. I have always been same sex attracted and spent many years fighting it and praying the gay away. Well guess what Im still same sex attracted however……. His grace is sufficient for me. I have learned more recently that my identity is being a child of God. That is all believers identity. Does not matter your Job or spouse , or race or national origin. Its identity in Jesus Christ. Now with that said, Since I am same sex attracted and I avoid that lifestyle or pursing any intimate sexual relationships I am always going to be a minority in the greater Church. Let’s be real. We need others. We need friends. And I am so grateful I have a few friends that are also same sex attracted and are believers in Jesus Christ alone through faith alone. They also are pursuing celibate lives. I have personalized this comment because its the only way I can make my points. I am not the most masculine guy who is interested in football or sports but I also am not wearing women’s clothing. So this topic is very interesting because I understand this issue just like you do Becket. I lived it for 23 years something like that but today I don’t, however I still am same sex attracted. I still have a slight effeminate or give off certain mannerisms that others may read into and its not a purposeful thing. I can say you as well may relate to some of that yourself? Anyway I am just blessed to know Jesus acceptance of me is based in my faith in his promise to me for salvation. I am definitely a work in progress and each one of us has a testimony. So I agree with God about what sin is. And homosexual sexual activity is sinful absolutely and because his word says so. I will never get married and that is ok. Paul the apostle never married. But for some of us its not easy being a minority. I don’t relate to most Church men. They are married and have kids and I am not comfortable most often hanging out with them. That is ok. So I built friendships with like minded believers. That is ok. Jesus will fix this all in the next life. We are fallen beings with fallen flesh fallen minds fallen DNA even. That’s why Jesus came. Bless you. I have always felt that SSA is like other temptations/addictions that some may have to struggle with their whole life. Like Paul's thorn, God may never take that desire away. You can only be obedient every day. This sin is highlighted in our culture because it has become an identity for many. We don't talk about those who are prideful or have anger issues. I struggle with those sins daily and the same goes for me- I need to submit my life to God.
The other thought I want to share is from Rosaria Butterfield (a previous liberal lesbian atheist professor). She wrote that our desires are tainted by sin. Therefore we can't trust them. This has always helped me in discussions about homosexuality because so many of them are based around, "I can't help the way I feel," or "I should be able to love who I want." Both of those mindsets taken to their logical conclusion, for Christians AND non-Christians isn't true. We feel wrong things all the time but that doesn't make it ok for us to act on them. We don't condone adultery even though there may be a strong attraction/feeling towards someone. There are some that feel they were born a pedophile. Does that make it ok to sexually use a child? No. The problem is when you are talking to people who 1)Do not believe in the God of the Bible and 2)do not think there are any sins, you are coming at it from two conflicting ideologies and you will never be able to convince them they are wrong. Rosaria herself needed to come to grips with a righteous God and then learned how to flee from sin. The reversal is never true yet we keep arguing to change people's sexuality before they change their hearts.
I struggle daily w my same sex issues. Have been wishing I were a boy since I can remember. I'm in my 60s now.. but I continue talking to God and praying. He knows my heart. 🧡

My husband is a pastor and we are trying to minister to his brother who has come out as a gay man. I have recently seen your shows on CZcams and I have been brought to tears at the transforming work Christ is doing in your life. The greatest miracle of all is when a sinner is saved. Jesus saved me many many years ago and I love to see all the beautiful stories of redemption.
He takes all the sin, all the darkness, the brokenness and peels it away. Your story has helped me too, with my precious brother-n-law. At first I didn’t know quite what to do or how to be around him after he came out….it’s still a process and it’s one we pray over everyday. Thank you again!

When discussing pastoral care relevant to LGBT in a seminary course for lay ministry, people kept saying how important it was to be affirming.
I simply and kindly asked people to describe what affirming meant, are there limits to what we affirm? If yes, what are the limits, and how do we decide them? If no, then where does that leave us?

You might re-read Matthew 7:13-15 carefully. Yes, 'straight and narrow is the gate'; and yes, that includes being 'sexually straight', but very few find it, including those who are 'straight'. You see, all these labels-'straight', 'gay', and everything in between, are man made, and not of God. I can see, Deston, that you are having a difficult time with the truth of it; those old-timers who wrote that 'ancient text' (the inspired Word Of God, know as The Bible) were on the right track (and they still are). Someone once accused me of being a 'self-hating homosexual who loaths himself', to which I replied: "Homosexuality is self-hating and loathsome". I do tend to project my own emotions onto it, but your are only half-right about it. Homosexuality doesn't involve love, real love; Jesus is the only one whoever came in the form of man who will ever REALLY love any of us. You can't truly love what is hateful to God. He came, as John The Baptist said-'to make our crooked paths STRAIGHT'. And Deston, what you say about the only reason I think this is because of 'the ancient text' known as The Bible is completely wrong. I knew that homosexuality was/is wrong and hateful long before I finally confessed Christ as my Saviour. Reading 'that ancient text' (The Bible), particularly the writings of Paul (especially Romans 1), only confirmed what I already knew, and then some. What Paul wrote in Romans 1 (particularly verses 27-30) is not only still true, 2,000 years after it was written. It's more true today! Amen. But as St. Augustine once famously said (in his book 'The City Of God'): "hate the sin, but love the sinner". I don't hate you (or Dan Saber, for that matter); but what you are involved in sexually is not of love; it's a sexual addiction, consisting of false emotions and lust, driven by a demonic, 'father of lies', spirit.
Regardless of the numerous times I've heard your story, the very emphatic way you put it "I'm going with Him. I'll do what He wants" and that you want NOTHING of the old man... got me crying! @Creston Swan I feel no guilt for my attraction, because I did not cause it nor did I want it. But I will not allow that attraction to take seed and bear fruit because that is sin. I trust that God will bring me peace and contentment in a life lived honoring His commands.

@Creston Swan I'm sorry but the saying you quoted about "minding one's own business" doesn't apply to a public platform such as this. Anybody and everybody is entitled to comment or reply. If you don't believe that, then why are you replying to Lewis and telling him he's got it wrong on three counts?
If you are going to quote that saying about minding your own business I would point out that I was replying to Lewis, not to you. And if you are going to quote that saying then it stands to reason it has to equally apply to yourself and logically you yourself should not make any comments or replies. You can't have it both ways. When I read comments that are trying to dissuade a person from following through on their faith in the way that they want to, which you are doing, and telling them what the law says about marrying ( which of course they would already know) and also telling them they've got it wrong about scripture and wrong about sin, then as a fellow believer I am free speak up and will do

There is a man named Dennis Jernigan who was gay and he has written so many songs became a Christian and is married and has a lot of children but he said that when he realized that he was believing a lie about his sexuality God said him totally free. A eunuch is a man who doesn't have male genitalia.
Some males are born without formed genitalia (ie "by birth").
Some were "made that way by men" because their job was to guard royals. The purpose was in their job description: royal guards were castrated so that a sexual act could not be forced upon a royal person, for the royal person's protection.
Eunuchs who have "made themselves that way for the sake of the Kingdom of Heaven" are those who remain celibate for the purpose of serving God's agenda, not their own.
Male and female is determined by chromosome: male = XY, female = XX. This is written in our biological DNA at conception. It is determined by whether a sperm is a Y or X chromosome. That is a person's sex. Gender used to be a linguistic tool. It is now a hijacked word that has had its original meaning changed.
Each individual's DNA story/code is fully written at conception which causes growth, which is proof of life. Jeremiah 1:5 shows that God forms humans in their mother's womb and has a purpose for them. Thwarting God's purpose by eliminating even the process of formation is stealing from God (at the very least).
God is and has always been Pro-Life. God told humans "be fruitful and multiply" (Gen.1:22+28). God killed Tamar's second husband because he didn't want to make her pregnant (Gen.38:8-10). Jesus Christ said "I Am The Life". After all, life is the evidence of God's blessing, death is the evidence of sin and curses.
In context Malachi 3:8-11 is rebuking the nation of Israel for withholding the "full tithe" from being used for God's purposes. The "tithe" was 10% of any harvest that was to be taken to the temple so it could be given to the poor who had no family to care for them and no money for food. Those being rebuked were withholding an amount of these tithes and offerings for themselves and God was saying He knew about it and would repay them by withholding their needs as well. Interestingly God says they are "robbing Him" by doing that too...
I pray that you will one day know God for Who He is, not Who you want Him to be. After all, His Name is 'I Am Who I Am', not 'I Am Who You Want Me To Be'.

I remember reading Bonhoeffer’s Cost of Discipleship and thinking “I can’t do that.” I felt it would not renovate, but rather eliminate, my personhood, my freedom. This discussion is illuminating. Both men are sincere, informed, and invested completely in seeking truth, at least “biblical truth.”

One thing I have discovered. I've asked God to help me daily to ABIDE IN CHRIST. No matter the sin, sometimes in my long-ago past, Holy Spirit has faithfully checked me to identify those sins, and to increase my pain at something that also hurts my sweet Savior. Still working on things, but as time passes I see more of him and less of (the old) me. The words in the chorus of the hymn Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus have become my theme.

Info discussed how sexual drive can get misdirected is right on. I was sexually abused as a child, & then had to return to being a child as if nothing happened. A struggle with celibacy ensued, but because i have spent most of the last 40 years of life fighting to be on a holy path, it facilitated eventually opening my eyes to the truth that our sexual struggles are a force that can be misdirected, very much like anxiety and the acronym "Future events appear real," when the things we imagine in our mind, driven by the force of anxious feelings, are not real They are instead our imagination going wild. Well something very similar can happen with the force of sexual desire, where we see 'mirages' that are not real, & the 'force' can get misdirected, yet can feel very real. . Long sexual abstinence helped me to get in touch with this, which I would have otherwise missed I truly believe if I had instead been ruled by drives in every direction. You are being saved from a false path, & helping many people to also be saved from it, because I discovered that we really can be deceived... but we can also be set free in God, & assisted onto a holy path that will lead to God's best for us & blessings. I lift you all in prayer. Praise Jesus.

I stumbled upon your show today and was so taken. Thank you for your insight and your eloquent guests.. I am a lifelong Christian who have recently wrestled with the whole gay community and churches acceptance and affirmation despite what the Bible teaches. The church here in America seems to be shrinking and so is this why so many denominations are willing to change their theology to be "all inclusive"? If so, where does it end? Will we eventually have no truth? I also keep hearing the word- "authentic" in people who are challenging the church as not allowing people to be their authentic self. I would like to hear a show on this single word. It seems to be used a lot lately. When I hear this word, I think- "My "authentic self" is sinful...period. That is why I need Jesus. How can we combat the usage of this popular and destructive word?
I will have to watch this again because the insights were tremendous!

This had a lot of helpful terms, definitions, and info. I try to keep up, but there are so many issues attacking the church today, that it is hard to keep up. Lord, open the eyes and understanding of your saints and help us be bold to share Your truth.
This is amazing information. God's will in all of this. His purposes wi be accomplish. As you walk in his ways for your lives, prayers for clarity and support and peace of mind for both of you. Beckett, this is perfect..."The word 'space' always telegraphs the idea of victimhood."
I appreciated M.D. Perkins comment about persuading a person in the church who's a parent of a child who identifies as gay. I was shocked at first when a man that I had thought of as a faithful Christian at work talked about how his Lutheran congregation split in half over the gay issue, half went with the gay pastor, and the other half stuck with the biblical condemnation of homosexuality. The man stated to me that he went with the gay affirming half because his son is gay... My jaw hit the floor. I was surprised that he would put his son and that lifestyle ahead of God.
Ironically he started to stray further from respect for the bible. At one point he showed me a cartoon that made fun of people who thought the bible was the Word of God and how ancient and unrefined thinking that was..
I was not surprised to see this man stray farther and farther from God. As a monergist I considered the possibility that he never belonged to God, was not elect:
1Jn 2:19 They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would have continued with us. But they went out, that it might become plain that they all are not of us.
At best he's a prodigal son and God would wake him up, that he's a lost sheep that would be recovered, at worst I thought of him as John wrote.

The Roman Catholic Church is being split due to that subject. The German and some other European churches have started to offer gay blessings, leaving traditional RCC goers to leave the church in droves. RCC churches in the US are following in their footsteps….Becket, you have a very important voice that reaches many people looking for answers. As a nurse I see the destructive side of affirming transgender ideology, especially in children and adolescents, who end up with a lifetime of physical and mental problems from “affirmative surgical intervention” and chemical castration. The church is responsible to speak out about destructive lifestyles, and public schools who encourage children to change their pronouns without parental knowledge, should lose all federal funding. Sorry, to be so long winded😢
