Anna I feel so fortunate to learn as I have today about Marko. I had no idea or even imagined one would have such a vast knowledge of his body and what it takes to make it all work together, each facet supporting the next. Marko has always been remarkable to me but now he fascinates me. This interview is solid gold. I get more out of these interviews than just material covered. I form opinions based on the unheard language used and answers generalized to gain insight into the mind and who they are and Marko is simply a fabulous person/man/human. Outstanding video and thank you Anna for bringing Marko into our lives, our living rooms..

An interview with a very cool and intelligent dude. These types of interviews flow easily when you get engaging and detailed responses like this, right? Very nice, Anna!! Loved it.
As much as we all know and appreciate your interviews Anna, this - in my opinion - was a special gem. It feels like you both were just meant for each other. Down to the basics along with great humour, profound insight and basically big big smiles. If it ever needed a proof (I think it does NOT) that "nerdy" is actually a compliment, this interview deserves flagship status. So much fun ! Allow to end with a (probably) weird thought: If I be like Alice and enter the wonderland of music I imagine a gig with you and Marko together. Yes, weird idea but AWESOME at the same time ! Thank you !!!
it is like that Marko understood that he is around other musician and he can be calm and speak out with some humor i bet that he is that like he blend in he like it or not having fun,
The subtitles were definitely needed here - fun fact, more people outside of Finland understand Latin than Finnish…
Sad, Finnish is so much more beautiful. I only know one word though...lol

i think Latin is most beatiful language ever,cradle to all other languages,so difficult and decorated that it is "forgotten" even tho there no word in any lkanguge that doont have Latin root!

Great interview! Maybe consider removing sounds below 80-100 Hz (e.g. 24 dB/octave 90 Hz highpass filter) in the post production to make interview easier to listen with headphones? And I was hoping for interview question about how important Marko feels his formal musical education vs self-learning the stuff himself during his career?

Oh, what a gem ❤! It felt like Marko was a bit reserved at first, but started to open up and when you got to the nerdy part all floodgates opened 😂. I saw you commented to someone that it felt like you were just getting started... felt like that for me too. It started to feel like you two would easily go on for hours if possible 😂
My thoughts exactly! I don't think he feels comfortable around new people and I'm so happy he started to open up more and more as we continued to talk. 😊
Excellent! Keeping the "idea", but a band member comes up with a similar word that fits better is a great part. Instead of "collided" saying "bumped" or "damaged" might work. etc.

Just a thought (mostly joking); maybe Finns naturally have better breath controll. The language is so complex and sentences get ungodly long. So kids naturally develop good breath control from an early age, just out of the necessity of speaking the language well enough 😜. At 3.00 into the klipp, Marko takes a breath, and then goes on in one go untill 3.10 untill taking the next breath 😅. Or maybe it's just typical for top vocalists and freedivers in general 😇.
Interesting point of view. I think it varies from person to person though!

Hänen stagemanagerinsa tuli bäkkärille loppuvaiheessa, koska aloimme mennä sovitun haastisajan yli: rohkaistakseen Markoa lopettamaan että "ei tarvitse enää höpöttää tämän tubaajan kanssa".
Marko vain jatkoi innoissaan nörtteilyä! 🥰

You touched the issue of physical attributes and singing.
Anna, have you ever had anybody saying that their biggest problem is not hearing oneself well when singing?
I have objectively good ear for tones but as I sing myself I need to either have a mic and headphones or tilt the back of my ears forward in order to hear myself well enough and sing anything not super simple in tune. Otherwise the notes start in a very lazy and inaccurate way. Also, when singing backing vocals on stage, I really, really, really need the amplification from monitor - can't hear myself well inside my head if the total stage volume is high. So I guess my head structure is not made for singing? 🙁
This is not a rare issue! Most of the time it is the case of training yourself to hear and feel the inner resonance as well as set your placement and support right. Onstage, monitors are usually required anyway. It's understandable that one can't hear her/himself in such a loud environment without any amps. 😊 I bet your head structure is just fine!
@@annavaskelainen Thanks Anna, I know this is more or less an issue for everyone, but as far as you can compare this ability with others, I actually suck. I can improve other aspects of singing with training but this seems to be the wall. Not that I have a huge vocal talent or that I would be aiming anywhere with it but it is interesting anyway (and at least gives me somewhat viable excuse to remain a lazy learner). 😉

Tulee hyvä haastattelu kun haastattelija on myös perillä asioista. En ole aikasemmin kuullut Markon haastelevan juuri mitään itse laulamisesta,äänialasta,lämmittelystä ym. Itseäni kiinnostaisi vielä tietää onko oikeasti mahdollista äänialaa laajentaa esim lähelle oktaaviin verran. Yleensä netin opettajat vetelee niin helposti vaikka ja mitä,mutta haluaisin nähdä videon jossa jo vähän harrastanut ,harjoittelulla pystyisi laajentamaan reilusti äänialasnsa Markon hommassahan on vielä tuo basson soitto ,linjathan ei ole yleensä niitä suorimpia. Loistava muusikko! Tarot on itselle se joka kolahti,ja kovasti.Monista bändeistä sanotaan että on ali arvostettu, mutta Tarotin kohdalla se pitää tosiaan paikkansa.Ihmettelen edelleen aikaajoin miten sillä materiaalilla ei menty sen pidemmälle,ehkä Markolla on tähän näkemys.

Onko sulla tuttuja median puolelta vaiko ihan CZcams kanavallasi sait tämän haastiksen? Yleensä Markoa haastattelee vaan isot rock metallijulkaisut tai hesari/is. Mut oli miten oli hyvä oli "haastattelu". Marko on niinku sanoit alussa rock legenda ja faneja löytyy ympäri pallon.

Oikein mainio nörtteily. Nyt tällä viikolla mösjöö heittää legendaarisen bändinsä Tarotin kanssa pari keikkaa, ja katselevat sitten mitä sen yhtyeen kanssa tuleman pitää. Mutta hyvä artikkeli oli eiliseltä sen tiimoilta, Tarotin pari ekaa levyä tuotti muuan Kassu Halonen, joka keskittyi erityisesti laulupuoleen, tuoden Markon mukaan "... stemmalauluihin ja tuplauksiin tiukkuutta ja tarkkuutta. Itse olin nuorena kaverina vaan, että ahaa." Näin jälkeenpäin sieltä on saatu paljon hyviä juttuja.

Now you got a wonder why Marco didn’t go back to Nightwish. He said he was done with the music industry because of the industry. Then he came back with his own band and now has a date scheduled with former Nightwish singer Tarja. It must be something about Nightwish he doesn’t like specifically. 🤷♂️
My understanding is that Marco doesn't like when the music making gets too commercial / daily job. And based on his resignation letter, it appears that he couldn't logically accept the fact that part of the money from NW venues/gigs went to Middle East where atheism is sometimes even illegal and NW is openly secular band. That was just too dishonest overall for his taste.
I think he was just done with touring around the world, gave him too much anxiety/stress.
@@Harolddespuie is still touring now, for instance he has a pretty big tour around south america scheduled for September-October with Anneke , sort of an acoustic set
But of course Nightwish tour was even bigger world wide and started last year, and he probably wasn't ready for that.
Funny enough Nightwish has just stopped touring for undefined time.
I think the whole thing was about his mental health. He gave an interview in Finnish last December about his mental health problems and it was really hard to listen to. Nightwish's operation is so huge and consuming that he probably wanted to start building this next phase of his life calmly and on a smaller scale.
