you can see some of the dark places that marko alludes to in his resignation letter. it sounds like this was not about the band, just his state of mind. he is quite proud of human : nature's direction with their experimentation. i still hold out hope that he will return.
Far as I can read between the lines and in combination to this interview, he's has a big problem with injustice. Marco has hinted that he had a beef with record company about the percentage they take. As he said: "they even want part of our merchandize" and "the money disappears into the pockets of Middle Eastern investors". Or something close to that. Such a fight can exhaust a depressed person really bad. I'm speaking from experience. Once you deplete your mental energy to a certain level, the scales tip over and you start a downward spiral of worying and irritation, losing energy faster and faster. You end up losing sleep or do nothing but sleep, have severe moodswings even to the point of aggression. You feel empty, no energy left, sad to the point of crying all day, angry to the point you hurt yourself to not hurt some else, desolate, anxious. Some people see a solution in a flight forward and try to end their lives.
I presume Marco hit that point. The point where the downward spiral starts and he or someone close to him pulled the emergency brake.
Personally I think he needs NW as much as NW needs him. Can't imagine him reading this, but I would urge him to get back with NW. 'Reading' him - and I used to be pretty good at that - I think he needs the stability. But in the end that's for him to find out and decide when it's time to go either way. As long as he stays busy. Boredom is deadly for depressed people. I guess in Marco's case the pandemic didn't help either. Too much time to think and worry.

Great interview. Sci-fi movies? I've watched Blade Runner a dozen times. And I've seen a documentary where Marko has had a Tim Powers book nearby. Not SF, but one of my favourite authors. Just bought my first Tarot CD.

Great question. I am happy to answer. We have been a podcast for over 2.5 years. We have built up a solid reputation & cult following during that time in large part to the way we do interviews and the more creative episodes we release.
That being said, we JUST started putting all of our stuff on CZcams as well as those other platforms. So, some of those episodes are past episodes we have done during that more than 2.5 year span. We are learning that this is something we should have done a LONG TIME AGO.

its weird to see and hear what Marko says after leaving the band
The interesting comment he made a couple of times was “Tuomas decided”.

Marko, it is so GREAT to see YOU on this video. Marko VAPES. You are such a GREAT part of NIGHTWISH Marko! The LOSS of you in Nightwish is a BIG thing. YOU DO DESERVE to have a BIG amount of TIME, for YOU to to feel as if YOU have had a "vacation" from feeling emotions and YOU ending up making songs out of those damn emotions. REALLY, in Nightwish, Tuomas has been said to be the CHIEF SONGWRITER, BUT, we all know that in NIGHTWISH, both Marko and Tuomas have written some GREAT songs, and maybe a few songs have been written by some OTHER members of NIGHTWISH?

@@Helmifavourites I know that, but leaving Nightwish which is considered the most successful metal band in Finland and one of the best bands on European level as well as leaving the public life ends another chapter of both Nightwish and the Finnish metal scene for me.
He's like the Finnish boss of metal, the Finnish equivalent of what James Hetfield is for the American or mainstream metal. In almost every metal act in which Hietala has been involved he's been a central figure. When I see him posing in the middle along with the other guys in Raskasta Joulua on pictures it kinda gives you the perception that he's like the "big one" of all of them.
Anyway it's a little bit wrong to think like this since metal generally should not be dependent on only some particular metal musicians.
I think that with or without having Marco Hietala around the metal scene the Finnish metal scene will manage to continue to create successful metal bands. Finland is the most metal country in the world after all.
