Neil Gaiman's Sandman Death is right up there with Terry Pratchett's Discworld Death as one my favorite fictional characters

Dream has that Robert Smith look, but I remember a Dave McKean interview where he named Bono as the main visual inspiration (specifically from Clannad's In a Lifetime music video).

Sandman was such a high quality book that it was actually required reading in a college English Lit class that I took.. Granted, the course had a focus on Fantasy Literature, and we briefly touched upon Myth, Faerie Tales and Horror genres as well, but the professor could've have picked material from ANYWHERE, and the fact that she chose Sandman speaks very highly of the caliber of this run.. To this day, if I'm trying to introduce someone to the world of comic books, this is one of the first titles I recommend.

Interesting comment about the art. For me, and with all due respect to Sam Kieth, it's with Dringenberg that the art in Sandman was elevated to another level.

the "rock structures" are a real location. they are siting within the empty fountain at Washington Square Park in NYC. iconic NY hangout spot for all walks of life

It’s more of a Nick Cave cut from his Birthday Party days.

Thank you for talking about Death. You’ve made me want to pick these two comics and add them to my collection. Keep doing what you do!

Your early videos on Sandman were how I stumbled upon your channel originally. Nice to see them "continue".

Glad you're getting back into the Sandman. Such a landmark series!
And I second the recommendation of the Audible version. Really well done with an all-star cast. The first volume is free right now too. Vol 2 comes out in October, I think.

Such a cool retrospect. My favorite comic and characters by far.

"Brother, you are a poor excuse for an anthropomorphic personification." There is the beginning of my current belief system. The idea that these unreal, utterly fictional gods' power is not in their actuality but their mythical reputation. This Death was so much fun. Her animal familiar is goldfish. Her favourite movie is Mary Poppins.

Very cool video - the 'sandman - death' hardcover was the first comic i got from my gf as a present and made me restart reading sandman afterwards. I started if before but didn't got into the groove... i know own the complete run and reading it together with her, about 40 issues in - Lovin it, but i need some lighter material to break it up in between a few issues. Can i refer you guys again to a video my other fav comic youtuber did about Cinamon Hadley - The Girl Who WAS Death - czcams.com/video/-rmOAccUAiQ/video.html

Great job, guys! This series was unusual! DC started to expand towards the Vertico imprint! I was reading Doom Patrol,Animal Man& Shade, the changing man, each book deverse/creative! All perpetuated by Alan Moore Swamp Thing! Sandman 8 definitely tossed Dream into the deep end and the readership along for the ride! I looked forward to it too! Haven’t read this book in awhile! Neil would be great for Dr. Strange! Marvel comics are bunch of corporate pussies who like to grind shit out! Once again you’re DEFINITELY the oasis for comics! Binge watching you guys! Thanks!

I'm just afraid the TV show will just won't be able to recreate this feel.
