- Hot Roding ol blacky left me with a pretty heavy knocking noise that ended up being a few spun rod bearings. gave her the sloppy treatment and slapped in a set of new rod bearings and let her rip.

You gave me hope bro I appreciate it like frfr !!! Did have to pull the whole motor
happy to hear! I did not pull the motor but may make it a lot easier for someone less experienced
About to do this with my 4.8 with 250k on it so thanks for a good vid gives me a tiny bit of Confidence lol. Going to do all the timing chain and oil pump and everything while I have it that far apart but my truck is lifted and I’m poor so definitely not pulling the motor
Go for it!
I got the same issues you have with this I’m hoping I can get mine fixed as well!!!
Nothing more satisfying then some blacky content.
Lol, some turbo 6 liter content would be nice to
just what I needed to see, bout to do this to my sons 6.2, thanks for posting this vid!
Glad I could help!
Ok so how many miles do you have on it since the rod bearing replacement? Did the main cap you pulled still look ok? I’ve got a 180k 6.0 that filled my magnet with shavings. It’s just a starter motor, and I know it ran in what it came out of without knocking. Not as much shavings as you had. Also, I’m surprised you chose 150 grit sandpaper. I’d think for a polish, I’d choose 400 grit+. Just deciding how I want to attack mine as a low budget, junkyard kinda build. Thanks
im glad this video popped up in my recommendations today, my buick 455 developed a slight knock recently (even though it has decent oil pressure, grrrr), somewhat quieter than yours though. how does your truck sound and does it make any knocking noise at all besides typical pushrod valvetrain noise? i read some other comments like one that said you put about 50k miles on it and it seems fine. i gained a little confidence watching this video lol. Did you run any thicker oil or additives after putting the bearings in?
Did you reuse the old bolts and what torque if so? And I love your style.....giterdun
I did re use the old bolts. 20 Nm +85 degrees
What geit or paper did you start and finish with on the crank? Thanks
I only used 150 grit for the whole process
Lol 😂😂😂 "There's sparkles in there." "Oooooooouuu".
How did you decide what size bearings to go with ?
I looked up the different offerings and just thought a 1 thousandth under size bearing would be appropriate for 350k worth of wear. I did no measuring. At all. If you were to value the engine you're working on, I would recommend using plasti gauge to make sure you are using the correct bearing. I did not, so I did not. Thanks for watching!
What did you Rev it out to? I am swapping a cam/springs and was going to up the revs bit you are giving me pause.
6500 was where I had it but this was a bone stock motor with over 350k so she was on her way out anyway. I have a couple other truck with cam and spring swaps that I run up that high without any issues so far
I have a 2003 Chevy 1500HD I replaced all spark plug and injectors truck make tiling sound near cylinder 7,8 when you reve it up the tiling gets louder truck has p0300 code and reduce power. I pulled valve cover off everything looks good. Do it sound like it could be it issue or something else really need to get it fixed to get back to work
Thanks for sharing
Can I reuse the rod and main bolts and did you?
Yes and yes
What did you use for bearing lubricant? Oil? Grease? Might need to do this to my 04 silverado
Assembly lube. Melling brand
I’m about to change my rod bearings put in a melling high pressure pump and a tsp stage 2 LS3 cam in my Camaro
Hell yeah neighbor!
Why did you do undersized and not stock or oversized?
To compensate for 350k miles of crankshaft wear, an oversized bearing would only be required if machine work had been done to the block and main caps where an oversized bearing would be needed. I'm sure the stock bearings would have worked just fine but wanted to try to tighten up my extremely used bottom end. Thanks for watching!
@@BustedtoBuilt i guess I thought undersized meant more clearance but its the other way around. I'm about to do mine with stock size.
Good luck with repair and thanks again for watching!
Thinking of buying a 94 2500 with a knock and trying to find a way to replace a bearing without removing the motor lol
Did the pickup tube get new oil ring
It did not, I would recommend it tho
I’m surprised you didn’t plasti gauge the bearings
Customer vehicle sure. on my own 350k mile clapped out lq4, it just wouldn't be my style
Got to the 4 minute mark and thought... It's fine, just throw in straight 50 weight!
Just put a grease fitting on the oil pan and forget it lol
@@BustedtoBuilt....😆... even better!
Update ?
Still my daily driver, idk maybe another 50k on since this vid? Getting rotten enough now that this drive train is probably about to go in another truck lol
How long did this last afterwards? Lol
Still going, putting together another 4l80e for it currently. Thanks for watching!
@@BustedtoBuilt I was wondering on doing this to my Subaru motor but feel it’ll just spin again
@@JonBuiltRacingunfortunately it’s a Subaru motor so spun rods or blown hg is all that’s in ur future forever
I'm not firmilar enough with subarus to really give any good insight on
Is this car still alive ???
It is, still my daily driver/camper hauler/equipment hauler. Last winter put another trans in it but she runs like Barry Sanders
You need ti get a 2-3 in mike and ck it for out of roundness, or else you are just rolling dice.
At 350k miles you don't think I already knew I was rolling the dice?
rumor has it his still running fram filter and can't find out why this keeps happening
Thanks for watching!
@@BustedtoBuilt hey is the truck still running good
Yep she's still going, parts runner/daily driver.
Sweet deal gonna attempt the same issue right now!!! Right after I slam a 400 dollar car battery in me sons electronic p.o.s bronco power wheels #hahaha haha!
Gotta make sure there's at least one reliable vehicle lol 😆
