    Emery cloth works great for this also. This reminds me of my high school days where you did whatever it took to keep your ride on the road.

      Honestly depends on how bad/long your bearings have been spinning, crankshaft condition, oiling holes. Some get lucky, some just needs a rebuild.

    How did you do the rod bearings on the top ? The bottom are pretty easy to get because you can remove the cap
    Thanks for the video, boost of confidence

      I used a small flat blade screw driver, I was just careful to keep the blade on the bearing and not the crank, tapped the other end of the screw driver to push the rod out. I also watched a video of a guy using a bent screw (with a rounded head) that could work too

    the most common problem that will spin the main bearing is low oil presure worn out oil pump put in a new one would be me addvise

    Just bought a 2010 Camaro LT for $2,000 that supposedly has a rod knock. I’m leaning more towards the timing chain. I haven’t gotten it scanned yet. It still has 30-40 psi oil pressure. What you think?

    • @MotorCityMotorSports
      @MotorCityMotorSports  Před 6 měsíci +1

      If you’re going to do the timing chain then it would be THAT much work to remove the oil pan. Once the oil pan is off it’s easy to replace rod bearings. (It’s a hit or miss with crank bearing though)
      Basically, I would check the rods bearings if I’m already doing the timing chain ( THATS JUST ME )

    How do you remove the main bearing? Is there a tool for it. Trying to remove it on a H2 hummer

    • @markdesselle5572
      @markdesselle5572 Před 2 lety +1

      Usually you have to pull the crank. You can research "rolling main bearings" as another option, just be extra careful if you go that route.

    @stewoe7157 Před 2 lety +1

    You should first determine why you have a rod knock. They don't happen for no reason, normal wear won't cause rod knock. Either you have an oil starvation issue, or you ran it on low oil.

      Yes just make sure no to scratch anything, it might be better to invest in something slim but strong enough to work with ( I’m not sure, sorry )
