Here you can see a layout portrait of the digital Märklin H0 model railway (1:87), the "H0lle Modellbahn" in Hessisch Lichtenau (approx. 15 km east of Kassel). The layout is also known as Modellbahnland Heli (Heli for Hessisch Lichtenau).
On a layout area of approx. 100 m² in a 160 m² hall, train sets run through various forms of landscape on approx. 300 meters of track. These include a coast with a beach and harbor basin, low mountain ranges, high mountains with a cable car, a city, railway depot, industrial areas, a small town with a tram, a fair, a large stone viaduct and other large bridge structures.
The shape of the layout is particularly interesting with many small niches and corridors that always give the viewer the impression of standing in the middle of or on top of the model railway layout.
With a few push of a button, you can also become active yourself and trigger animations on the model railroad. You can also manually start all train sets yourself at the push of a button. In addition to an Intercity of the 103 series, diesel locomotives, steam locomotives, including a Köf, a TEE or the Rheingold Express including steam locomotive from the 1950s. The train lengths go up to 3.50 meters and thus represent realistic train traffic.
A Faller Car System also allows trucks and buses to drive over the facility. And the day and night simulations are also built in here. Every 15 minutes it gets dark for about 2 minutes.
Model railroader Jürgen Horn has been building this layout since 2001 and has thus fulfilled a childhood dream. And construction is still going on. Another facility based on the US theme with the legendary and world's most powerful steam locomotive Big Boy (Class 4000 of the Union Pacific Railroad) is planned for the near future.
You can also find many more detailed pictures of the system at: www.modellbahn-... /
The facility can be visited all year round (except for 3 weeks during the summer holidays and December 24th / 25th, 31st) from Friday to Sunday. Admission for adults is a moderate 5 euros. For children, families
and groups have discounts. (Status: 01/2016) More information on the Holle Modellbahn website (www.modellbahnland-Heli .de).
In addition, model railway workshops, dioramas and plant construction are offered. And in the adjoining Café Märchenstube there are delicious home-baked cakes at very family-friendly prices and super-friendly catering. Therefore an absolute recommendation from me. A longer journey is also worthwhile. But you should consider 2 hours for a tour of this model railway exhibition.

@Jan Jaap Klomp: old windmills before 1900 turn like this, because the wooden axle on which the wings are attached is stronger when the wings turn anti clockwise. After 1900 the axle was made of iron and from then on most windmills turn clockwise.

Great layout. However the windmill turns in the wrong direction with respect to the “sails”

A shame that the "drivers" or indeed the locos are not tuned in to DCC and the relevant CV setting available to make our model railway trains start and stop realistically...... I just hate watching these layouts where trains, trams, narrow gauge trains,, w.h.y ALL seem to, with a very few exceptions, try to pulverise their passengers into sausage meat at every start and stop. Not even close to real world operations, and yet, WE CAN DO IT with the modern DCC that almost everyone uses these days.
So come on people out there, read the decoder info, research on Google, and make your locos (and drivers) run the trains far more realistically.
