    I think going to music school would take all the fun out of music.

    My experience with Musicians Institute was pretty much the exact opposite of most reviews from students/alumni. I struggled heavily when it came to my studies, and found that most teachers and students wanted nothing to do with you if you weren't already at a certain level on your instrument. The people there really know how to make someone feel stupid when someone is inexperienced or trying to learn something new. I felt very discouraged being there, and found it to be a very cliquish and cold environment. Impossible to make friends or any type of connections. I'm currently stuck in non-music related day job and have struggled to get gigs due to the lack of help and guidance I needed. It seems like administrators only want to hear positive stories about graduates who succeed after MI, and have no concern with those who are struggling. Forget about any type of career assistance or job placement; anyone who receives assistance is someone who can make the school look good and attract new students.

      That was a waste of money and time. I recommend a teacher not a teenager a guy that's in his 50-60 years old. I was with a teacher from 2000-2004 and never thought about that overpriced Hollywood school.

    GIT graduate here! I was there March '88 - March '89. Best single year of my life! I'd hop in a time machine and go back to those days right now, if I could.

    This is a cool place - but i must admit i prefered my time at LIPA in the UK - Performing arts school founded by Sir Paul Mcartney. A rock school cant get much better than one founded by one of the Beatles !

      +Eric Palacios MI has a guitar craft program

  • @mikebrownplayingguitar1253

    Mi is crazy expensive.you go there and rack up huge debt.you graduate and get a job in a cover band making 50 to 100 $ a night.what mi teaches you can learn on your own with books and internet.

  • @FelixMatthiessen

    can't wait to start my time there, spring 2015. SOON !

  • @mikebrownplayingguitar1253

    You can get the same education from a guitar book from guitar center.and internet tab for free.real musicians teach themselves.jamming to records.then buying good equipment form a band in high school rehearse build fan base.tour etc.thats how metallica acdc did it.go through all that trouble to go to school.if you get a degree.you dont have to show it to people to get a job.image marketing connections networking and a good manager.will do more for your career than going to a school.

  • @mikebrownplayingguitar1253

    I just dont understand why people go to college to jam.a musician is not the same as a doctor.you pay 100,000 dollars to play scales.98% of famous guitarists are self taught.a doctor has to go to school to heal people.going to school is not required to work as a musician.

  • @mikebrownplayingguitar1253
    @mikebrownplayingguitar1253 Před 6 lety +10

    It may make you play good.but all it does is teach guitar skills.but it doesn't teach you how to get a job and build a career.98 % of musicians don't make it.only 2% make it.metallica ac/dc didn't go to music school.and they are talented rich etc.95% of mi graduates don't get anywhere in the music industry.they graduate with guitar skills.but nothing else and they wind up working at a gas station instead.music schools are a fraud.people hiring in the music industry don't even care about talent.its all about the money and nothing else.sucess in music industry is all about luck.working in the music industry is a loser occupation.we don't need more musicians.we need more doctors and scientists

      Mike Brown playing guitar I agree. It could make you technically better but it can't give you feeling or soul. Basically none of these people will ever make a dime in the music industry. Im in Nashville and you stand a better chance playing in bars or on the street corner. Atleast your getting paid and working on your chops. I have been around the business all my life and I would never encourage somebody to waste time or money in a music school. If you wanna go to school, go to college and become an accountant.
