  • Malaysia's "Orangutan Diplomacy": Latest Plan to Sell Palm Oil? | Vantage with Palki Sharma
    Malaysia plans to start using "Orangutan Diplomacy". Johari Abdul Ghani, Malaysia's Minister of Plantation Industries and Commodities, announced that the country will begin gifting the endangered Orangutans to its biggest palm oil customers. The minister made sure to name China, India and the European Union. He says this will showcase Malaysia's commitment to wildlife conservation. Malaysia has been fighting against new deforestation regulations from the EU. The EU plans to stop importing products grown in newly deforested areas by this December. Malaysia feels this will harm its palm oil industry, so it has raised complaints against the EU at the World Trade Organization. "Orangutan Diplomacy" seems to be Malaysia's Plan B to secure its Palm oil exports.

    Malaysian palm oil are certified sustainable palm oil. In fact, most of the palm oil plantations existed even before independence, planted by the British. We are now adding value to it.
    Despite this, Malaysia still retains 55% of its virgin tropical jungle.
    It is a fact that per sq ft, palm oil produced more oil than other vegetable/plant oil, thus more value.
    Also palm oil have high nutritional values, can be used in high heat, reused and recycled.
    Without palm oil, good luck frying things using olive oil and increase your chance to get cancer.

Malaysia and Indonesia should send 20,000 orang utan to EU in a dispute about deforestation.

    So when the animal freely can roam in their own habitat ..these man thoughts that maybe they can just ship this animal somewhere …just to attract people buying their palm oil and at the same time able to expand their deforestation project as they won’t be charge by all the animal conservationists. Don’t think that’s a genius move . More and more animal being displaced . I read somewhere that Borneo is one of the most diverse in term of flora and fauna but yeah seems like money matter more?

      @Liboch Před 2 měsíci +4

      @hj2711 do you know why food industry uses palm oil? Because palm oil meets the legal requirements of trans fat laws.
      In many countries trans fat is banned in industrial food due health reason. Do you know what is trans fat? It is a by product of hydrogenation process? What is hydrogenation? Hydrogenation is used to make less saturated oil last longer and to get the right form. And oils such as corn, soy, rapeseed, cotton, sunflower, peanut are less saturated oil and have to be hydrogenated. India is in the process of making such laws too.
      Palm oil and coconut oil don't have to be hydrogenated.
      Many countries are using palm oil to dilute content of trans fat in other oils to meet the legal requirements.

    • @Liboch
      @Liboch Před 2 měsíci

      @hj2711 the use of palm oil in the industrial food in North America and Europe is not because it's slightly cheaper but because palm oil meets the health laws.

    IF people understood the health dangers of palm oil in food, the orangutans would not be endangered by the destruction of their habitat.
    Europeans exploited Malaysian and Indonesian land for palm oil but NOT to the extent that it destroyed entire habitats; that is down to the natives, who, by the way, were at a stone age level of culture before they were exploited. This is a FACT that modern empire-bashers conveniently forget.

      Dude, can you tell what is the danger of palm oil?
      Why palm oil is not banned if it is dangerous?
      Why many countries especially in North America and Europe ban trans fat but not palm oil? Trans fat is present in hydrogenated soy, corn, peanut, rapeseed, sunflower etc but not in palm and coconut oils as palm and coconut oils don't need hydrogenation.
      That's why many countries especially in North America and Europe are using palm oil to dilute their oils to meet the health legal parameters.
