I say it a lot, but Johnny Marr is the most important guitarist of the last 35 years. His groundbreaking work with the Smiths alone (not to mention his innumerable collaborations and recent solo work) has influenced a couple generations of young players who aren't afraid of subtlety and bright tones. "Brit-pop" alone couldn't have happened without him. Discovering his genius at age 16 was a revelation. He still amazes me 30 years later.

He is great but he isn't responsible for Brit Pop (which is a good thing)
For a start Oasis , Suede and Radiohead didn;t want anything to do with that tag
More than that, its true lots of them copied Mozzers quotes about the UK not being taken over by America etc but Moz himself wasn't the first to do that , Paul Weller and Ray Davis did all that about Moz
I think Johnnys quote about jobs and being unfulfilled is a bit hit and miss..Not everyone has a vocation and you can have a good life, even if you not have a job - we are not our jobs o kids etc

Johnny Marr. Guitar legend. Icon. And a thoroughly decent human being.
I watched the interview to the very end, its extremely disappointing the interviewer cuts Johnny off so abruptly at the end, while he was still answering a question. Sometimes when you have such a legend, they have earned the right to be able to finish answering a question without being interrupted like that.

Great talk. Should have let him finish answering the last question though - was there a fire somewhere?

Johnny Marr = legend = icon
Was a part of my favourite ever band and although he speaks of how big The Smiths are, I don't think that he truly understands the legacy that he has left. I would do anything to have grown up with The Smiths but I was too late and will likely never see them together on stage.

This should be shown as an instructional film as to how to be famous, wear great ability lightly, to know how to collaborate, to know how to be generally decent to people and not to have unbearable ego.

THe reaction is really intense. He asks with a lot of interest. Pity the question was not. Marr's reaction spots that and is priceless

What an interesting talk. Great passionate musician. Talented and works for it, his enthusiasm is infectious. The interviewer probably cringes when he looks back and realises that he asked Johnny Marr to stop talking!!

Just listened to an early interview with morrisey and Muriel Grey, fantastic. He also speaks about genderless/ambiguity in lyrics and the importance of letting the listeners paint their own picture. Everything Johnny marr does is high quality listen to the smiths peel sessions the sound and feel is deliberate because Marr controls the end result.

Great job moderating. Get things rolling in the right direction and then vanish and let the guest of honor shine.
