I lived in West Virginia for eight years, my daughter was born in West Virginia and let me just say her accent is spot on! I've heard most of the lingo and trust me when I say it's all accurate. She did a fantastic job and I'm very impressed. I like her so much more now, and I already liked her before watching this, so she's pretty perfect!

Oh it is easy done! I am the same way. I'm WV born and raised, and have lived In England most of my adult life. My daily accent has mellowed way out, and many people seem to think I'm Canadian, but if I talk about WV or, like Jennifer says if I've talked to anyone in the last little while, I'll be all WV.

Yonder is a direction not a measurement. "It's over yonder." Usually indicated by pointing in the general direction of that location.

Born and raised in northeast PA, I grew up saying "warsh", and "crick". I also remember an old time song that used "a bushel and a peck"
I also am PA born and raised. My sister always said "warsh". Drove her kids nuts. PA also is a "language".

So Precious, a Wonderful Representative of her State.
Living in Texas now, but born and raised in WV. MANY generations in WV. You can’t nail down a WV accent. A true one. Different in different regions. Sometimes different in different hollers. For instance for some in my family, you put your groceries in a brown paper boig (that’s not exactly right, but it’s as close as I can get phonetically). On the other hand, my grandfather always put his groceries in a poke.

Native West Virginian here, a "mess" could also me a character as in that Boy is a mess.
Native here too. If he is really a character then he is a 'mess and a half' LOL
He's in a mess *of trouble* which still means it's a unit of measure.
Don't forget that if someone has a lot of problems or issues they are a hot mess. I call my boss that every day nearly.

We use that expression for mess in Australia too, so I say it's universal

Pretty accurate...some of the spellings were off...holler...worsh....not hollar & warsh
I think these are more of the Southeastern PA spellings because they often use these same words
