I am already amazed by this work and I have only listened to the beginning so far! The work was first staged in 1733 but - typically for Hasse - there are soo many elements foreshadowing preclassicism in the arias! That's why I love Hasse, he already integrates - to a certain degree - the delicacy of classicism into the flashy world of Neapolitanian opera! Bravo!
And of course Juan Sancho is most brilliant!
I agree with you. The style of this music is already preclassic. I wonder whether this is the version of 1733 staged in Bologna or this of 1763 staged in Dresde.
Well that would be an explanation :)
Either way, Hasse had a quite progressive style relatively early compared to his contemporaries:)
@XDranzer000 mmm, I cannot agree on that. Especially Vinci didn't make a comparable development as we can hear in this opera at many moments. If you listen to Vinci's last opera (methinks Artaserse) you won't hear much preclassicism there according to me.

Roxana Constantinescu great voice and technique, the best voice of this representation. Julia Lezhneva great coloratura technique, very expressive and elegant. Max Emanuel Cenčić was a great singer, his voice seems exhausted, but his performance is very musical. The tenor hurts my ears, very shrill, nasal and a tense, inelegant voice. Mary-Ellen Nesi is a good interpreter, but her voice is sometimes out of style, but she is a good singer (good chest register) Dilyara Idrisova beautiful and youthful voice, but the low register is not well developed (chest register) The orchestra and conducting are wonderful!!

Ma foi, c'est un fort bel homme !
Mais où est donc passé Franco "il magnifico" Fagioli? Quelle perte! Heureusement que subsistent Max Emanuel Cencic (c'est un minimum quand même) et l'impeccable et ultra virtuose Juan Sancho. Le maestro George Petitrou, toujours au poil, est bien là, ferme à la baguette et dirigeant au cordeau son orchestre héllène, et réglant probablement un compte avec Julia Lezhneva pour l'avoir obligée à chanter son aria la plus difficile à la vitesse de la lumière...Celle-ci, véritable machine à chanter s'en tirant magnifiquement...Et puis il y a derrière tout ce petit monde la statue du commandeur Hasse, mélodiste céleste, et grand pourvoyeur d'arias époustouflantes, jamais décevant et faisant éternellement partie de la liste noire de ceux qu'on se promet toujours d'approfondir comme un Telemann ou un Haydn sans jamais vraiment le faire...Dommage!
