  • This video features the igneous rock, with the trade-name, Mountain Green Granite (using 360 degree photography). This rock is quarried by the Cold Spring Granite Company from Jay, New York State, USA. Note that the building stone industry uses the more generalized term of "granite" for essentially all coarse-grain volcanic rocks, and for many metamorphic gneissic rocks too. Geologists have subdivided the general term of granite, which originates from around 1100 AD, into many other names. The different technical names relate to variations in rock chemistry and mineralogy. Technically this green granite is a metanorthosite. Anorthosite is an intrusive rock that is an uncommon rock type on Earth. However, this rock also has been affected by metamorphism--causing foliation (or layering) to the mineral structure.
I do not know much about this stone. It is a popular building stone because of its distinctive color, and consistent grain size. This metanorthosite has distinctive green labradorite minerals, and also contains augite (pyroxene), and garnet. It is from the Marcy Anorthosite in the Adirondack Mountains, and has been dated 1.155 billion years old. Additionally, the rock type at the quarry, is architecturally graded into seven types of colors. A more garnet-rich variation of this stone (from the same quarry) was used as the cornerstone of he Freedom Tower (c. 2004), in the World Trade Center in New York City, New York, USA [reference: www.flickr.com/photos/jsjgeol...].
