I'm not sure if she does have any of that. She walked to the platform, and saw it was a small layer of foam cubes, just to break a fall slightly from a push-off, then jumped in the air and landed like that. Not to mention signing the waiver. They definitely should have had a soft mat under the foam though.
As someone who did gymnastics for a long time, the foam pits we used were at least 6-7ft deep and used thousands of blocks to fill. The fact that anyone in charge thought this was acceptable for people to use is mind blowing.
@@Yurio Man, that's what I was thinking too, that they either would've had a very thick foam pad under there or a trampoline the whole length of the pit.
but this is not a tramp park its a fuckin twitch con meet, dont jump ass first into a pit ankle high. wont be able to sue, cant sue some one for your own stupidity.
@@manenwan It probably wasn't when she felt the pain, it was probably when she realized the pain was too much just to be a bruise. It looked like she was in pain but planned to just laugh it off at first.
As many other people have said, back injuries are no joke and that's definitely bad enough on its own. However, the fact that this is Adriana Chechik, someone whose entire career is her body, this could potentially end her career. She should absolutely sue them
i dont blame her tbh. you see someone apparently having fun and saying they're ok, but then showing pain signs, I probably wouldnt know how to react given i was also working and had to "keep the show running". Hard place to be, imo
sure and you got X-ray vision and would have seen her broken back imediately while she was saying that she was fine with a smile on her face, after that they noticed something aint right by constantly asking if shes really fine.
One of the worst things I've heard from Twitchcon so far (besides this): Twitch staff wouldn't let a disabled person sit down in the line, despite the person insisting they were going to pass out. When they DID pass out, their service dog started doing DPT (deep pressure therapy) to help. Twitch staff then literally TOOK THE SERVICE DOG OFF OF THE PERSON, causing them to be passed out for over a minute. Mind you, the dog's vest clearly said on it DO NOT REMOVE FROM HANDLER. Absolute disaster all around. Edit to add: This happened to lounaticlive
Twitch staff committed a misdemeanor there. "Any person who intentionally interferes with the use of a guide, signal, or service dog or mobility aid by harassing or obstructing is guilty of a misdemeanor, punishable by imprisonment in a county jail up to 6 months, or fine of not less than $1,500 nor more than $2,500, or both."
@@spoopyvirgil4944 They also tried to deny access to them at first because "pets aren't allowed" even though it was a service dog, so that's another illegal thing
Oh my god, that footage made me cringe. I can't imagine what was going through her head. Excruciating pain that made her just keel over. Holy shit man... She's going to be in physical therapy for years if not for the rest of her life. We're literally watching her final moments as an able-bodied person, it's horrific.
The fact that they were saying she was fine and not taking it seriously when she seemed to be struggling to move out of the foam pit is shocking to see.

I worked at a trampoline park for about a year and half. Our foam pits were 4 feet deep, and at the bottom was another trampoline, not a solid bottom. Never had any issues
Lots of people warned twitch, within the day another lady dislocated a knee. Twitch is screwed here. They should offer a 2mil settlement right now with an NDA and save themselves from more.
Tis is true, though signing a waiver makes it a tad harder in legal proceedings, however you have a pretty solid claim regardless. Though it would fall under the company who runs the pit. Even though twitch provided this venue, its "technically" not their fault.
@@sdfsdf2205 A waiver would protect them from being sued if her back was broken by her opponent hitting her to hard. NOT by them being negligent with safety precautions
@@DoctorOaks It really depends on the waiver, unless we see what was written, I couldn't tell you. Hence why I said it's a tad harder in legal proceedings. It is not as cookie cutter as you might think.
I looked into depth requirements for a foam pit, and this is what I found: “To ensure trampoline park safety, the minimum depth required for trampoline park foam pits is 60 in. (152.4 cm.), and it is only permitted to dismount into a foam pit from normal trampolines, NOT allowed from high performance trampolines.” Considering that the foam only went up to their knees, and 60 inches is 5 feet that definitely isn’t up to standard. Of course, they weren’t jumping from a trampoline, but they were still jumping into the foam pit regardless and that shouldn’t change anything.
Look at how she jumps clearly knowing this was 2 feet of foam this was her own carelessness plus she’s a porn star probably tired of getting railed by 3 men at a time and wanted a lawsuit but gl fighting a big corp like intel it wasn’t there negligence but her own for jumping and intentionally landing on her tail bone what a bright girl 😂. Another note this was not a foam trampoline park but a foam pit for falling injuries related to the activity not for jumping and diving in 😊
I’m shocked that they didn’t shut it down after the first injury. Secondly, they can make really safe “foam pits”. I have a niece in competitive gymnastics and ninja, where she’s completed in nationals…. I know next to nothing, but there is something seriously wrong with that setup.
that weird joke where she’s like “no she lives in the pit now” when adriana didn’t get out. like i get the announcer probably didn’t realize what happened to adriana but idk i feel like she should’ve read the room????
i think they just didnt realize how serious it was and they were kinda awkward not knowing how to react and trying to keep the mood light and from going too serious, i know i wouldnt know how to react well either, especially if i didnt know how bad it was
I worked Twitchcon this year. I live in Japan and I HATE flying. Also, I don’t like big crowds and am pretty introverted. I gotta say, I was very presently surprised from the good vibes at Twitchcon. From the people who stopped by my work’s booth to the creators in artist alley, every person I met was incredibly nice. I would absolutely, 100% go to a con again. The only dark cloud (for me, I know other people experienced a number of issues) was the fact that the foam pit stayed open until Sunday afternoon when the injury occurred on Saturday. That was shocking.
"[...] the foam pit stayed open until Sunday afternoon when the injury occurred on Saturday." wait what are you saying here? i thought someone broke his/her ankle, another girl dispalced her knee and it was still kept open but then was closed after the back-injury!? did they seriously let all this go down and didn't even close it after the back-injury? because if so then there isn't even a way to describe this negligence...
as someone who’s mom has a spinal column injury from an accident (slipped disk in her neck) i can confirm that if you injure your spine, the side effects are permanent and it can be incredibly painful. i’m beaming all my good energy to her
"Back injuries last pretty much forever." Can confirm. That was a life-altering moment for that young lady. I feel absolutely horrible for her. I wish her a speedy recovery and a long, healthy life.
Same, fell down while climbing trees as a kid and dislocated a disc. Been like 15 years since then and I still feel a little discomfort there every once in a while.
I’m an emt and if I saw that video and she was my patient, I’d be extremely concerned. That was brutal and could’ve easily paralyzed her. I cringed when no one took her seriously and she attempted to crawl out. If you see something like this or experience it, don’t move the patient. Wait for EMS, so we can take full spinal precautions. Even if someone thinks they’re okay it’s better to be safe than sorry.
She has nerve damage to here bladder now :( In addition to the horrifical chronic pain and mobility issues she will have... she has to deal with not even being able to do something as simple as go to the bathroom. Truly fucked situation.
Poor woman. I was 25 when I had a microdiscectomy on my lower back. I just randomly collapsed in my office and my colleagues laughed at me thinking I was joking - honestly, the pain is beyond description and it changes your life forever.
This was so scary to see. A back break is so serious and she is of zero fault!! Poor thing. Everyone injured needs to be compensated at LEAST for the medical bills.
bless her, she must've been in so much pain but tried to hold it together with all the cameras on her. i'd have been crying immediately. i hope she makes a full recovery
I had this injury at 16. 35 years old and it's still chronic pain. I wish her the best. :( edit: hearing more about the treatment she's getting, it sounds like mine wasn't even as bad as her. I feel so bad for her.
That’s why back injuries scare me the most. One “little” thing could happen and poof, you’re paralyzed or have lasting damage. So scary to think about, be safe guys
Honestly, they should just pay for the whole thing and more. It’s their fault that the injuries happened, and they’ll be hurt for quite a while. Edit: I think I missed a joke 💀
As someone who’s fractured their back in five places, this is absolutely horrible. She might have back pain for the rest of her life. I hope she sues the company and has a very fast recovery.
I definitely would look into the lawsuit, waiver or not. When you are handed a waiver, you are signing it with the expectation that the concerned party took every reasonable measure to ensure your safety. That lady didn't even look like she landed with any weight to the force on landing. I probably weigh two of her, and already have back problems.
I understand back injuries very well. I had a spinal fusion because I had severe scoliosis. It hurts everyday. Not something to take lightly. They really should’ve had a deeper foam pit to prevent this. I hope her bills are paid and she recovers well.
I legit almost died in a foam pit one time in 7th grade. A friend i was there with playfully buried me underneath a bunch of them while i desperately tried to shovel them off. While this was happening and i was completely hidden from sight, a high school senior was jumping down the trampoline track and did a flip into the pit. This man had no idea where in the pit i was and a did a flawless fucking axe kick that resulted in his heel striking me right in the center of the forehead. I felt the crack of my skull through my entire body and it swelled to the size of an egg. I amazingly did not get a concussion and that senior actually broke his heel on my face when it happened. Shits crazy dangerous pretty much all the time Edit:i am in fact okay thank you for all the retroactive concern. When i went to the doctor a few days after that incident they told me if i hadnt been as heavy set at the time i likely would have died without the cushioning. A little fucked up to tell a 12 year old but hey go me for having zero food related impulse control during childhood right?
This really is life changing for her. In high-school, I slipped on ice and landed on my back. My back still bothers me to this day. I can't believe the lack of foam in that pit. If they insisted on having that pit, they should've told people to only jump in feet first or something. Edit: I'm not recommending people jump in at all (even feet first). I don't think the pit should exist with 2% foam in it. I'm just saying, the workers let people jump in weird ways knowing there wasn't a lot of foam and that's weird!
it's a scattering of foam over solid concrete... even feet first can really hurt you if you're not prepared to hit concrete christ, imagine if someone had fallen head first...
@@ileolai Well in that case, the video that we'd be watching right now would have a much more accusatory, murdery tone methinks. I’m 17 and I have chronic back and joint pain and weakness, when I’m 60-70 I’m almost certainly won’t be able to do the things I should be able to. I’m also definitely going to have to stop working out pretty much at all way earlier than that. Knee and shoulder replacements aren’t an if, it’s a when. It’s already really debilitating sometimes and I’m not even an adult, it affects my quality of life significantly sometimes. I already really struggle with it mentally despite having lived with it for my whole life so I can’t imagine how she’s going to cope with that pain after a life of not having that pain. A healthy and pain-free back is so important for both physical and mental health, this is going to really affect her ability to stream because it’s going to make sitting in a chair for hours really uncomfortable
I used to work out so much as a preteen and run but you really never notice the damage until you stop and dont do very long and precise stretches every day that actually change how your mobility and your bones turn out. You have to stretch groin, hips, ankles, knee, calf, elbows, shoulders, scapulas, tailbone, all parts of back, arms, stomach, literally everything until they feel like you have a workout from just that.
Damn, that hurt watching... And you're right Charlie! About 10 years ago i suffered a herniated a disc at the L3-L4 level.. Causing a pinched sciatic nerve, making me bedridden for half a year. As someone who deals with chronic pain from head to toe I really appreciate you talking about how bad it can be. Even the smallest things can be mental to deal with.

Also, I'm not sure how much connection Twitchcon has with Amazon, if at all, but the idea of an Amazon affiliate, cost cutting, and substandard safety all fit together too well, sadly.
If you watch the video, Charlie says that the booth this was at was run by a third party, not Twitch. Most of the blame should be put on that third party. I hope she recovers well. Back injuries are nothing to glance over, they are the worst injuries you could ever deal with. Best to see an herbalist of opioids aren’t for him ❤my exes dad deals with his chronic pain by smoking weed all day and playing video games, he doesn’t qualify for disability because he could probably do an online job instead of gaming. I think his condition is endochondral ossification. It causes your joint cartilage to turn into bone.
Back injuries are hard to heal, they often require a lot of continuous bed rest with minimal motion throughout the day. Another general tip for healing back injuries faster is to be at a healthy body weight. Each pound lost helps to take pressure off the spine.
Dude, I went to this booth and lost. Fell flat on my back and it literally felt like I fell on the floor, there was like 2-3 foam cubes between me and the floor. I felt kinda stunned for like 3 seconds, but thankfully didn’t get injured. If I landed on something like my knee or elbow it most likely would have been injured, but the force was distributed by my body falling evenly. The booth was seriously dangerous. The human body is surprisingly fragile, particularly the spine. I have been dealing with a chronic back problem from a simple gym lifting injury (improper form) for over a decade now since teenage years. never gonna go away.
This reminds me of the time I was playing musical chairs in my Highschool cafeteria with a bunch of older kids, and I just barely sat in a chair (on the edge of it, it was one of those plasticy ones), and this senior, who was MUCH bigger and heavier than me, sat down with such force, it ended up launching me off the chair and onto the tile floor, I did the little bounce. Just watching this video brings back the pain in my tailbone, I feel it vicariously.
To be more specific, a waiver can limit liability, but cannot absolve them of it. In this case though, it probably would be considered an assumption of risk because it looks like they had to walk through the foam pit to get to the platforms and could therefore tell how shallow the pit actually is, though I guess she could argue that foam pits are meant to be able to catch your fall and she relied on this knowledge when she jumped and it is therefore a faulty/ negligent design. So it would depend on the judge, though I suspect they would side with the former rather than the latter.
as far as im aware, even a signed waiver cannot absolve the organisers entirely, and specifically not in the case of gross negligence. even with waivers in place, they have to meet minimum safety standards. lots of people get payouts when stuff like this goes wrong, and you can bet they all have waivers because insurance companies will demand it. the waivers are basically saying the company or organisers will take reasonable precautions, and the participant absolves them from responsibility for freak accidents that happen in spite of those measures, acknowledging the inherent risks in stuff like this that are impossible to entirely eliminate no matter what safety measures are taken. but when those minimum standards are NOT met, then the organisers are on the hook, for sure.
While I feel strongly that people’s eagerness to sue is too great these days, all these incidents really DO deserve lawsuits. It’s obvious safety precautions for that pit were nowhere close to adequate, and people at TwitchCon would have no way of telling that it was unsafe.

@@firemaker1258 the pit was basically just deep enough that **most** falls would be cushioned leading to a false sense of security. It basically needed to be 2 feet deeper before ALL falls were safe. Wow, normally when people hurt themselves I’m like “well what did you expect” but I actually feel really bad for her. I mean, a foam pit is exactly what you’re supposed to jump into. Real foam pits can cushion a 10, 15 foot drop, probably more. For a lot of people, back surgery is the start to their new life as a pill addict so I hope she doesn’t go down that road.

Foam pits at my gymnastics gym were like 9ft lmao

I legit almost died in a foam pit one time in 7th grade. A friend i was there with playfully buried me underneath a bunch of them while i desperately tried to shovel them off. While this was happening and i was completely hidden from sight, a high school senior was jumping down the trampoline track and did a flip into the pit.
Even feet first people are breaking ankles. It's just not enough period.

Im not a lawyer either, but Im pretty sure if the injury is a result of negligence on the companies part, she can absolutely sue.
Crazy how she’s literally laying there writhing in pain saying she can’t get out, and the announcer says “she’s fine…” and sarcastically yells “MeDiC!!1!”

The foam pit at my former gymnastics gym was over 7 feet deep with a trampoline at the bottom for support. To imagine this set up intending for a “gladiator’s duel” (whatever it’s called) where you could fall pretty badly if your opponent hits your hard, is just horrific. Feels like the poorly set up carnival rides that is set up within 30 minutes.
Apparently it was 2feet and below that solid ground...

This hits home. Had a back injury from being hit by a drunk driver. I went from working out 7 days a week to not being able to walk for months. Years of dealing with pain and nerve damage took a long time to physically heal, and even longer mentally. Struggled 5 years with depression and anxiety having my life changed in a split second. These injuries truly never go away and become part of how you live every single day.
I wish her recovery be miraculous and that the pain passes fast.
stuff like that always pisses me off. i can be the healthiest person in the world, but my entire life and all my hard work can be uprooted in one second because of some mongrel who couldn't put his car keys down for one second. :(
Hope you've recovered / are recovering well! It's outrageous that something like this can happen at an event the size of this
feel you. broke my neck (C5) in 2020

For real dude I just got out of the chiropractor after going there for about 3 months 2-3 times a week at the peak back pain does something else I had ptsd after my accident every time I fell asleep I would wake up in a car accident in my dream for about a month after it
The human body is surprisingly fragile, particularly the spine. I have been dealing with a chronic back problem from a simple gym lifting injury (improper form) for over a decade now since teenage years. never gonna go away.
Its also incredibly rigid and indestructible. We get nerfed and overpowered all at once.
You could pray to God to heal you.
Also a waiver doesn't mean she can't sue, there's laws in place for that and that pit is just gross negligence
Law is always above terms and conditions. For now anyway. Won't be long the way America is going, but for NOW.
They’re gonna hit her with the “best we can do is a merch goodie bag for your troubles”
While I feel strongly that people’s eagerness to sue is too great these days, all these incidents really DO deserve lawsuits. It’s obvious safety precautions for that pit were nowhere close to adequate, and people at TwitchCon would have no way of telling that it was unsafe.

To anyone watching, never land on your butt like that. Never even risk it. Falling flat on your back is safer.
Mainly because falling in a seated position compresses your spine and can also fracture your tailbone.
*(Btw this is 100% TwitchCons fault. I am not blaming the woman. It's just a warning)*
I agree, whoever organised the pit should be blamed.
Only concern about falling flat then is busting up your skull on the concrete below!
its adriana chechik btw
Dont know if falling flat on your back is that much safer.
Smacking the back of your head on the floor might lead to a more permanent injury (death).
@@darkforcekiller It tends to be safer as it spreads the impact zone across more of your body. Tuck your head, fall flat on your back and if you can, spread yours arms out completely and slap the ground.
I am a military veteran who was medically discharged for a spinal injury. This type of thing changes your life forever. There is no recovery, only some treatment. Maybe. She will never be the same. This is negligence at the highest tier, and she should sue them for every penny.
I had spinal fusion back in february just for scoliosis. I could barely breathe when i woke up from anesthesia. I had to be on oxygen and with like 10 different drugs hooked up to me for me to even breathe properly. I'm now sitting here at home recovering from my chest surgery in august. Surgery is no joke.
I hope she sues tf out of them honestly. As somebody with a chronic inflammatory condition- This really bothered me. There's a really good chance she's going to be in pain forever.

The utter lack of safety is just incredible to me. They’re literally trying to push each other into this pit AND they expect said pit to protect them so they can free fall. Very sad situation.
These pits are usually meant to be deeper and are cushioned at the bottom, it seems. Purely negligence on the part of the organisers. These are normally safe.
@@firemaker1258 the pit was basically just deep enough that **most** falls would be cushioned leading to a false sense of security. It basically needed to be 2 feet deeper before ALL falls were safe.
Someone sustained a leg injury jumping FOOT FIRST because they rolled their ankle on the foam, legitimately got hurt when bare flooring would have been safer because they would have been able to land correctly.
Why would you jump like that anyway?
@@rousrouslan4023 not a excuse, foam pits should protect against all falls
@@rousrouslan4023 because it's a foam pit. Foam pits are usually heavily cushioned and have something softer as the flooring that isn't hard cement. And are usually deeper.
That’s gonna be with her forever. I feel that pain every day compression fractures in my entire lumbar from a car crash years ago.
No, because my tailbone was cracked back in 7th grade (almost 6 years ago now), and I'm still feeling the effects today. Back injuries are no joke, and I hope she recovers.
no what
Wow, normally when people hurt themselves I’m like “well what did you expect” but I actually feel really bad for her. I mean, a foam pit is exactly what you’re supposed to jump into. Real foam pits can cushion a 10, 15 foot drop, probably more. For a lot of people, back surgery is the start to their new life as a pill addict so I hope she doesn’t go down that road.

The pit was definitely not adequate.

Tailbone injuries are no joke. When I was like 7, I was playing on a swing set when the chain broke and I fell directly onto my tailbone. It was only like a 2 foot fall and I was pretty light, but immediately afterwards something happened that I now know was my body going into motherfucking shock. I blacked out for a second and then faded in and out of consciousness, during which I stumbled back to my house.
