Smart Californians who can't afford private schools will start homeschooling.
that's not what this is. This is about protecting kids that have violent parents or bully parents. If a child goes to the school counselor to talk about gender and is unsure about it and just needs someone to talk to that child should be able to say - don't tell my parents cause my dad will beat me if he finds out, or kick me out, or become estranged. And that counselor should be able to keep that child's secret in confidence. There's plenty of examples of parents killing their children or dad's beating up their child if they are gay. THIS LAW is to protect those kids. Trust that kids that feel safe telling parents about gender because they have kind caring parents WILL discuss it with those parents. This is for the kids that don't have that. Musk himself cut off communication with his own child due to gender identity and is a perfect example of why some kids don't want their parents to know. If you can't understand that then that's on you, but you shouldn't want to put your beliefs on everyone else and put kids in danger simply because you can't grasp the reality of the situation that is so bad an actual law had to be put in place to protect those kids.

This just gives the right for the schools to not tell their parents about a kid's gender identity if the kid doesn't want it. Which would only be the case when parents are abusive towards their kids because the kids will either way tell their parents if they aren't afraid of their parents.

It's a business decision. California has high income taxes and high regulations. Texas has lower taxes and less regulation, at least for now. If there is enough skilled labor in Texas, it's an easy choice for a business.
