    Pilots mandatorily retire at 65. Air traffic controllers retire at 56. Do they make excuses about their mental acuity and sharpness to stay working? No, they retire. I’m sick of seeing people make excuses for a man who is in charge of the highest office in our country when there are obvious signs of degradation…

    • @Sewblon
      @Sewblon Před měsícem +76

      The statistical correlation between age and job performance is smaller than the correlation between job performance and psychometric intelligence tests. So if you think that mandatory retirement is a good idea, then you should also think that minimum I.Q. score requirements to work are a good idea.

      @@Sewblon This is a logical fallacy known as "affirming the consequent"
      The original statement:
      “The statistical correlation between age and job performance is smaller than the correlation between job performance and psychometric intelligence tests.”
      This part is a factual observation, but it doesn’t necessarily lead to the conclusion that follows.
      The conclusion:
      “So if you think that mandatory retirement is a good idea, then you should also think that minimum I.Q. score requirements to work are a good idea.”
      This conclusion is problematic because it assumes that if two things correlate differently with a third factor, they must be treated similarly in terms of policy decisions.
      However, this overlooks other relevant factors, such as individual differences, fairness, and legal considerations.

    In Soviet Union there was a political system where usually policital leader rulled until the moment of their own death. One of them was Leonid Brezhnev and Biden met him in late 1970s. The entire nation laught over Brezhnev's inability to speak clearly, but he had no other choice but to stay in power. That period of time in Russian was called "застой", in English it means "standstill, deadlock". After his death in 1982 and several short-term heirs in 1985 Gorbachev came into power. The Soviet economy was in stagnation and all his initiatives to develop it faster resulted in total collapse in December 1991.

    It's not signs of aging. I know men & women over 70 and they are fit, still writing books, working, cycling the country, super sharp.... It's not his age. 👍👍

    He was showing obvious signs of senility 4 years ago, today it is irrefutable. Strongly distrust anyone who claims he is "sharp as ever" as either a fool or a shill.

      What a stupid law that would be. Plenty of able-bodied 75 year olds, why are you ageist and who are you to decide that arbitrary number? Ideology matters far more.

      @@noahg5779 ageist is still discrimination from age however, no matter if only ageist towards old or young people. I do agree 80 is fair as well. just want to point out how others don't agree with that age and want it as low as 65. IMO too much is being focused on this, these are the oldest candidates in history and most will be younger in the future. I just think this is a unique problem we are having
