thankyou for a great tutorial! from what you described I'm pretty sure it's the capacitor in the controller of my Bernina sport 801, I now feel confident enough to take the foot peddle apart & check to see if thats the problem!...

Thanks for showing this good video about a common repair regarding these oil-paper capacitors. I like your focus on opening the pedal without damaging the brushes. I guess we both learned that the hard way 🙂 Perhaps you are in the Bernina FB group, because I just made a note about a modification to the springs in Bernina pedals.

Hi , thanks for your brilliant video and I am sure many DIY enthusiasts find it extremely useful. I have a Bernina 1015 Sport model and I am wondering how to access the carbon brushes. I am unable to locate the screw caps which need to be undone/ opened ( as in other models ) for checking the carbon brushes. Just like the motor in your video, mine looks exactly the same . However, it doesn’t have screw caps to access carbon brushes. Instead., there is a black shutter/ plastic cover on the housing and I am assuming it holds the carbon brush/ es . But how do I open it is a big puzzle. I would appreciate your help/ feedback please because I need to check the carbon brushes on my machine motor. I look forward to hearing from you ASAP. Thanks, Ramana.

Really great gental instructions on taking these things apart. I like metal things better. Watching you take apart the foot peddle gives me confidence. One of these days one of my Bernina's will need foot peddle work. Replacement is very costly. Now I won't hesitate. Thanks much!

Hi there, would you have an Elna Lotus for sale? I'm keen to buy a reconditioned one for my granddaughter. My mum had one I used to use when i was a teenager and watching your demonstration of one brought back happy memories. I think it will be a great machine for my granddaughter to get started on.

connects to a secondary, rotary variable resistor adjusts the maximum speed of the foot control, possibly change the response curve of the main variable resistor

My Bernina 831, is randomly sewing. Meaning, the motors runs but it seem like I step on the brakes and the needle isn’t moving up and down when I have fabric to sew. I have to help by moving the wheel on the side to give it a start. At times if I just continue to step on the peddle it will run then sew.. I don’t know what happened to it. I know I need to service it. But I still want to know. Without fabrics under the foot the machine will run and the needle will move.

It sounds like the motor belts may be loose. I have a video that shows the adjustment but it's for an older model of Bernina but it may help you. czcams.com/video/9fCDvfaf_Wg/video.html

In Stitches, thanks, I’ll look at it and see if that is the problem.

In Stitches , I have had it serviced before and never opened and seen the inside. I got this machine second hand and never had a problem. Been using it for over 15 years. I just opened it and I see that the bottom round thing that holds belt a part of it has been broken off. I wonder why that part was never replaced when they service it and I wonder if that is the problem. I tested with the side opened, and for now it seems to miraculously be working and sewing without any hitches. I tried sewing different stiches and with maybe a what was that for a second it seemed that the problem was solved. I think the part that is cracked and broken is the black round pulley Disc. Part of the round part where the belt in on it broken off. Not sure what is wrong with it.
