I don't think Mel needs to survive because her arc seemed complete with her choosing peace. In my opinion Mel dying would be both thematic and ironic because her death also signifies the death of peace in the region and because of her mother, her death is the cause of the war.

Its a quick flash hidden behind the attack sevika makes against the chem baron, but you can see him casting some kind of magic. You can tell its him by the transformed arm and his distinct cane. :D That little Headwiggle in the Warwick animation that lets him seem like a dog thats shaking off water or something is sooo wonderfully creepy
