- The hike from Odda to Trolltunga.
Hiking date: 02/09/2018
Elevation: 1,100 m
Distance: 28 km
Duration: 12 h (Waiting time included)
Translation: Troll tongue (Norwegian)
Description of VisitNorway (bit.ly/2sI17eG):
Trolltunga is one of the most spectacular scenic cliffs in Norway. Trolltunga is situated about 1100 meters above sea level, hovering 700 metres above lake Ringedalsvatnet. The view is breathtaking. The hike starts in Skjeggedal and goes through the high mountains, takes 10-12 hours (27,5 km in total to Trolltunga and return) and the ascent is about 1000 meters. IT IS A LONG AND DEMANDING HIKE. The trail is marked from the parking lot in Skjeggedal to Trolltunga. Along the trail there are signs showing the distance left to Trolltunga. CONSIDER CAREFULLY WHETHER YOU ARE IN GOOD ENOUGH SHAPE AND HAVE THE RIGHT EQUIPMENT BEFORE SETTING OUT. There is partly mobile phone coverage (Telenor) along the route. The hike is usually possible to do from mid-June, depending on when the snow melts in the mountains. Normally one can hike to Trolltunga until mid-September. WARNING - DO NOT TRY TO HIKE TO TROLLTUNGA IN WINTERTIME. From February you can join guided snowshoe hikes with Trolltunga Active. If you are inexperienced with challenging mountain hikes, you should join a guided tour of Trolltunga.
All nature based activities are at your own risk. You will need sturdy hiking boots, bring extra warm clothing, rainwear and be prepared for bad weather. Bring map and compass, plenty to eat and drink, a torch and a simple first aid kit. Weather in the high mountains can change quickly - check the latest weather forecast before going to Trolltunga. DO NOT hike to Trolltunga in strong wind, heavy rain or in foggy weather. It is always colder in the mountains than down by the fjord. Respect the nature.
Every year there are search and rescue operations for hikers in serious trouble. Prepare well and be a responsible and safe hiker. Start early in the morning. Norway is far north, meaning daylight is short from September and nights are very cold. We recommend starting at latest 8:00 in the morning.
If you want to stay overnight in the mountain area around Trolltunga you have to bring your own tent.
Depending on snow and weather conditions, the season will vary from year to year.
15 June-15 September Recommended season (average year).
16 September-28 October Recommmend with guide.
29 October-16 February NOT recommended, highly dangerous.
17 February-14 June Recommmend with guide (snowshoes).
Trolltunga shuttle: (15 June - 15 Sept.) Pick-up service from the major providers of accommodation in Odda.
Price (return ticket) Odda - Skjeggedal NOK 250

Do you have any questions about the hike from Odda to Trolltunga?
Feel free to ask! :)
Would like to visit next year. I am from the Caribbean where it is hot. Forgive my ignorance, but specifically what type of outerwear should I purchase?
Depends a lot on which season you're going to Norway.
@@nilskrauss Thanks for responding!!! That would be mid to late September 2022.
Then you definitely should take winter clothes with you. Especially if you are not used to could temperatures.
But it also depends on where in Norway you'll stay.
@@nilskrauss Thanks for getting back to me. Its always hot here in the Caribbean. Not accustomed to the cold. Will definitely be getting as much winter clothing as possible. Lots of planning to do. Dont know where I will be staying as yet, but Odda is my destination.
good job with the video!
Im gonna visit there hopefully next year.
Thanks a lot 😊
That's great, enjoy it!
Magnifique très beau paysage
Yeah, the landscape is stunning in this area. 👍
Looks like you hiked up the 4km asphalt road to the right of the fall? There is a 1 km hike through the woods to the left of the waterfall that existed before the road was there, that is much steeper than the road but nicer to experience!
Oh, that's really good to know. Sounds much better than the asphalt road.
Thank you for the tip, didn't know this. :)
Hi Nils,
Can you pls let me know - how far the distance by walk from Bus parking (Mågelitopp) to trolltunga
Hi Rohit,
The hiking distance from Mågelitopp is 10,1 km one way.
If you wanna go from Skjeggedal to Mågelitopp by bus,
it´s like 100 NOK per person.
But the parking fee is NOK 600 per day.
Thanks for this video. ¿How do you do with the bathroom issue on the trolltunga area? I mean, when you are camping next to that rock lets say for 1 night. Thanks. I'm going on vacations next june 2021 from Costa Rica 🇨🇷. ✌🏻
Thanks for your comment 👍
We didn't stay there over night. So we made the Trolltunga hike at one day.
@@nilskrauss Mmm ok. Thanks anyway 👍🏻
Lovely video :)
When you were at Trolltunga (or area just next to) are there any nice locations to pitch up a tent on grass (not rocks)?
Thank you 😊
Yes, there are places really close to the Trolltunga where you can set up a tent on grass.
Hey can I ask you where did you bring the bus from Odda? Did you take the bus from Odda to Skyjeeggedal o where ?
Because I want to visit Trolltunga, I stay 2 nights in Odda and i don't know how can I reach the top of Trolltunga from Odda. Where did you bring this bus you took?
We took the bus from Odda to the Skjeggedal Carpark / Trolltunga lower parking lot.
From there we started our hike. But there are also other shuttle services which take you up to the Trolltunga Upper Parking.
Le bus part du centre de Odda ?
Yes, and he also drives from several other stops. But Odda is not a big city, so they are easy to reach. :)
@@nilskrauss Ok, thanks 😁👌
Iam here from the show ragnarok
