  • Thank you to our patron Arnie P for this very sweet selection. We got two love songs in one day! That's a first I think... and i'm here for it. This was an interesting track. It had a layer or two to it... and the vocals from Chris were great as well as the instrumentation.

Chris Rea has a ton of great albums - his music is a rabbit hole worth going down.

He is up there with the best of the lounge music artists, but he is much more than that. His songs generally have messages & deep meanings. Some favourites are On The Beach; Let's Dance & Road to Hell.

I didn't have the single, but I had the album. I thought the title track was even better. This is an album I bought for the one song. It's a great album. Had to sell it with the majority of my albums when I moved to the east coast.

I prefer the re recorded version and longer version of this. There is a 10 cd box set by Chris Rea called Blue Guitars, and with each cd he is doing a different genre of the blues. The Latin blues one is brilliant, with a wonderful song called "screw you, and your deep blue sea", a very mellow song with not so mellow message!

Elkie Brooks does a stellar cover of this fabulous Chris Rea song.

When Chris was just starting out, his record company didn't like his real name and suggested Benny Santini because it sounded exotic. He felt otherwise. He's a highly-regarded guitarist and his best-known songs (besides this) are "Road to Hell" (parts 1 and 2), "Texas", and "Working on It".

"Footprints in the Snow" by Chris is a rare ballad, somewhat poignant, yet mystical. Live version is the best. Give it a listen and enjoy

This was written for his sister who was upset she had just been dumped by her boyfriend.

If you own the 45, there's a noticeable bad edit due to the record company cutting the song from 4 50 to 3 40 for radio play. You played the original album version (despite the 45 being shown on the CZcams video), which was the correct choice. There's some confusion because Chris re-recorded the song a decade later and the arrangement is different, and that's the version that appears on most compilations you can buy now.

Love Chris Rea , especially Wired to the Moon which was a bout his daughter (a little girl back then). Such a nice unassuming bloke as well, who had pancreatic cancer back in 2019 I think. It left him very unwell with lots of ‘bits’ removed. ☹️

That album is nearly flawless. Each Chris Rea album up until late 80s seemed to top the prior. He never really expanded too much on his debut until after Deltics and Tennis saw him refining his sound to be smokier and bluesier. Early stuff of his sounds more like Gerry Rafferty or Elton John (which makes sense given Gus Dudgeon was Elton's frequent producer and did Rea's first 2 LPs). Wired To The Moon is his first truly excellent one and even then, he topped it with Shamrock Diaries which has to be one of the great 80s albums no one ever discusses.

This mix sounds a little different than I’m used to, maybe because it’s the 45? The one I prefer seems a little more layered/subdued and the vocals sound more forward. Or maybe I’m nuts…. 🙂
