Happy Bikepacking! - Tom :)
Hello! Loved your film. Did you need any particular permits along the way? I am thinking of doing this in may, but wasn't sure if it would be good enough weather? What would you suggest? I'm also thinking of flying to isafjorour and starting there
Best one yet! We'll done!
Thank you! :)
That looked incredible. Fantastic filming.
Thank you very much!
Amazing!
Thank you!
Excellent video and stunning drone work! I take my hat off to your determination. Great to watch.
Thanks very much mate! Really appreciate the kind comment :)
I just came back from the Westfjords. Never imagined someone would bike that. This video is absolutely amazing !
Thanks very much! I didn’t see any other cyclists so perhaps I’m just mad 😂

Wow 🙌🙌🤗🤗 what a beautiful place and dream destination"Iceland"🥰🥰🇵🇭
It is so beautiful! Thanks for watching :)
Loved watching this! Your experiences with the wind and the weather bring back great memories of when I cycled around the Ring Road. Your drone shot of the sun hitting the cloud covered mountains gave me goosebumps. When the sun is out in Iceland, it's one of my favorite places on the planet.
Cheers Matt! Wish it had been sunnier for a bit more of my trip though 😛 Would love to explore more of the island soon
What a great video
Thanks very much mate!
Superb video. Absolutely stunning scenery there.
Thank you very much :) it’s an amazing country
Another great video with stunning scenery, thanks for posting 👍
Thanks very much! Thanks for watching :)
I kept hoping the sun would come out for you! Beautiful countryside, thank you for taking us along ❤️
Haha thanks, it decided to show itself just as I was leaving… obviously! 😂
Gem of a video. Amazing scenery, beautifully shot, not too much chat. Perfect 👍
Thanks very much! Very kind of you :)
SUPERBE SUPERBE SUPERBE !!! TOP TOP TOP VIDEO
Thank you very much! :)
Beautiful scenery, nicely made video ... thank you for allowing me to travel with you
Thanks very much! Appreciate the comments :)
Good Job
Thanks mate!
Quite an adventure, beautifully filmed, despite the - let's say - inclement conditions. I cheated a few years back by taking the hire car across Breiðafjörður on the ferry and then using it as a mobile base for day-trips on my bike. So no will-I-or-won't-I-die moments, but at the same time much less challenging than bikepacking, as very little had to be carried each day. Exploring each of the finger peninsulas pointing towards Greenland was good fun, though, and Dynjandi waterfall (halfway to Ísafjörður) has to be seen to be believed, after even a small amount of rain. Had a night on Flatey too (pronounced 'flat-ay'), mainly a haven for birdwatchers. There was an Icelandic-TV serial set there about five years ago (1970s in the storyline) called The Flatey Enigma, which gives a really good impression of what life was like there just a couple of generations ago. No longer on iPlayer, but with BBC Four being threatened with demotion to an internet-only archive channel it may well re-appear ...
Thank you! Sounds like a great adventure nonetheless. Sounds cool, will check that out :)
Lovely video despite the weather, that campsite is a little gem.
Wanted to go bikepacking to Iceland for 45 years but never made it :(
You were quite right to check into the hotel nothing worse than getting so wet and cold that leads to hypothermia had that last year in summer on a night ride torrential rain, thunder lightening and hail, waterproofs failed. It was only due to the kindness of a stranger giving me and my bike a lift to shelter that I was okay.
Thank you! Yes I don’t regret that decision at all 😂 can’t imagine camping of the weather was like that on day 1!
Nice wild 😊
Thanks! :)
Very well put together . I really appreciate the BTS footage and information at the end of the video. May I ask what camera you used and what drone?
Thanks very much! Appreciate the comment :) yeah sure it’s all on my website in the video description, but the camera is a Sony A7iii and the drone is a DJI Mavic 3. I use a GoPro hero 11 as well but sparingly
@@Cycling366 you're welcome 😊. Thanks again for all the information. I appreciate it 🙏🏻. Looking forward to the next video .
Looks fun! planning on doing a similar trip this summer. Wondering if you could point out where exactly that public pool and campsite were on day 2? Also is there generally free camping around or do you have to pay for most things. Thanks!
Edit: think I found it; Reykjarfjordur?
Cheers! It’s a great part of the world, so I’m sure you’ll have a blast. There’s no free camping on the island in theory, you have to go to campsites and most things are generally expensive. You could get away with wild camping though if you’re discreet.
The pool was here: Barðastrandarvegur
451 Patreksfjörður
Great video! I am planning a similar trip as yours, you mentioned there is free parking in Stykkisholmur, is that in the ferry terminal or elsewhere in the town?
Thank you? Yeah around the ferry terminal and also parking around the town. There was plenty
Absolutely amazing video. How do you fit it all in!?!
Thanks very much! I’m just savvy with the holiday days and edit late into the night 😅
Wow amazing fliming must took along time to edit good job .. is reason you went pannier setup than a bikepacking setup
Thank you! Aye they do take a fair bit of work!
@@Cycling366 and why not pure bikepacking setup
Great video and thanks for the tips! I am planning a bikepacking trip there next year and but I am not sure how to plan the distances. In the UK, I can do road riding of 100km per day in places like Scotland or the national parks in England, with up to 1.5k of elevation gain per day. Based on your experience, what would you think to be an achievable/ safe target distance per day considering the unpredictable weather, elevation and gravel roads in the Westfjords? Also, planning to do it in June/ July/ August.
Thank you! No worries! I reckon you’d be able to do close to your normal distances if you have experience riding in Scotland. I’d liken the WestFjords to the high bits of the Cairngorms so if you can do that sort of stuff there, you’ll be good! The weather is even more unpredictable than Scotland so best to be prepared
Ok thanks for the tips!
Awesome film, I love it. How easy/hard was it taking your drone there? Are the rules relaxed or were you made to jump through hoops like some other countries.
Thanks very much! Piece of cake 🍰- no issues or permits needed
I already asked in a new comment but I'm just gonna piggyback on that question 🙂. What kind of drone did you take withyou? I'm a total newbie and looking into perhaps purchasing a drone for my 2nd Iceland trip. I know about the strong winds and am looking for a sturdier type than the regular DJI mini@@Cycling366
I am glad to have found your video. I am flying to Iceland this coming September for 35 days alone to bike tour the country. Westfjord surely on my list. Btw, were you staying mostly at hotels instead of camping?. Because I don't plan on staying at hotels since they are really expensive.
Thanks my friend! Sounds great - wish I had that much time. I was camping on the second night initially, but after the storm, I took the decision to book another hotel. Camping is much cheaper obviously! Good luck!
Amazing trip video! What was that hot spring you made that right turn to?
Thanks mate! I believe they are the swimming baths at Bardaströnd 👍
How is the biking? It’s cold in the summer It rain often in Iceland.
It’s epic. If you watch the BTS section of the film I run through it much more detail 👍
If fury wasnt such a Gaylord it could of been Fury v Usyk and AJ v Wilder on the same night in December. That night would of gone down in history
I remember thinking that EXACT thing cycling up those fjords…
@@Cycling366 hahahaha ooooopps
