A guide to upgrading or replacing the M.2 2280 SSD, RAM and WiFi card in the Dell Inspiron 16 5620 with 12th gen Intel Core 'Alder Lake' processor, and the near identical Dell Inspiron 16 5625 with AMD Ryzen 5 5625U "Barcelo" processor.
This is a relatively simple process requiring just a small Philips head screwdriver and a plastic pry tool.

This video is amazing. You helped me open a laptop and replace the ram for the first time ever. gave me the confidence to upgrade a second pc recently. This is what CZcams is for. Love it.
Glad I could help!
Hello. First of all, thank you. With your passion and curiosity, I got the upgrade information for the Dell 5620 model that I was going to purchase, and I bought the product and other upgrade parts together.
Thank you
Thanks for the comment - really pleased you found it helpful!
Love the step by step for upgrading. Just did my Ram upgrade. Thanks
Nice one! Glad it helped.
🙂 neat, thank you for showing the upgrade options
About to buy one of these for my MIL and the base config only has 8GB and for the 16GB option, adds another $450 (with 1TB SSD and Ryzen 7). I think I will just pay the $40 for 8GB of Crucial memory. Thanks for the step by step!!! I can buy it knowing I can do the upgrade easily.
Great video thanks. Which 16” models have 2 SSD slots this year (2022)?
This is the second time I have watched this video (great, by the way) but wonder if it wouldn't be easier to re-attach the antennae to the Wlan card before pushing it back in to the slot? I received a new Dell in this series earlier this year and made one immediate upgrade to it using this video as a guide to open the computer and make my upgrade. The video and clear explanation made the upgrade very easy. (This is a few days after my initial posting and I received a replacement Wlan card today to replace the one giving me trouble. There is more than enough extra wire on the antennae leads to allow you to re-attach them to the before before reinserting the board in the slot. It is still a bit fiddley but much easier than trying to attach the wires to a card that is flexing up and down in the card slot). Thanks for the video.
Great video, I have 16 5620, it came with one 8gb memory stick. If I add another 8gb to the other slot will it automatically be dual channel 32gb. What kind of wireless speed do you get on 5ghz & 2.4 Why would someone want to replace it. Thank you.
What is this black box in the right bttm corner next to battery? ssd slot? second battery?
what brand of ssd and ram use on this model?
Will the same model 2tb ssd work inplace of the 1tb shown here?
Does dell inspirion 16 has similar touchpad issue as inspirion 16 plus
Nice review! thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
Can I add additional M.2 SSD? Because mine has only 256gb…
Hello, I'm considering buying this model but I saw some people complaining about the quality control issues such as malfunctioning trackpad and overheating problems. Should I look for a different model? I'm considering this laptop because it has 16:10 aspect ratio screen, a backlit keyboard and a fingerprint scanner. More expensive offerings I've seen don't have all these features at the same time, so giving up on this laptop because of the quality issues would be such a bummer for me.
Can ssd upgrade possible in dell inspiron 14 5430 laptop?
Can i upgrade processor and can i use m.2 2280 ssd
Does it support 32 GB single ram on single slot
Just to be clear, is there not a second SSD slot?
Very nice and detailed review.
Can you confirm what is the sound ic that is mentioned for this Dell Inspiron 5620 i5 model by going to BIOS setup as my friend has bought it and it shows Realtek ALC3204. Whereas when you read the documentation of system, it shows Realtek ALC3254.
Thanks! Unfortunately I no longer have the laptop so can't check this.
Can you check if it’s possible to turn on automatic device encryption on Windows 11 home?
Bitlocker will normally be enabled by default if linked to a Microsoft account.
why need to upgrade wifi?
Thank you for your tutorial video which I found very useful, since I have the same Laptop.
My question is if my laptop comes with 8 GB RAM can I upgrade it to a 16GB by adding just another 8GB or do I need to buy a 16GB to upgrade it ?
It might have 2x4gb, then you will have 12gb at most. Also another thing to consider is - sticks best work if they are identical. So it is usually better to get the same pair and sell those that you had.
Hello, can a second 2 1/2 inch SSD HD be added to the 5620, for data purposes for example?
No, there is no space for a second SSD (either 2.5" SATA on M.2) into the 5620.
conider a DeLock 42622 device. Awesome data transfer rates (100 Mbp on Linux)
In the dell documentation pdf I have seen this model has two M2 pcle SSD slots one is 2230 and another slot is 2280. But you showed here that this model has only one SSD Slot
Thats the networkcard the 2230
So does the motherboard support DDR5? Did you swap out the single DDR4 ram for dual DDR5 rams in the video?
No, DDR4 and DDR5 SO-DIMM modules are differently keyed and aren't interchangeable.
Please help!
I've bought this laptop recently inspiron 16 5620..
The left side of the laptop is getting kind of warm although the fan is working.
Additionally, air is not coming out of the left vent.
Is that normal? I'm so confused💔
You blocked the air intake in the bottom.
Thank you
The most needed upgrade for this laptop is a numerical keyboard.
Did they go crazy? 16" laptop without numerical Keys?
It could be the perfect laptop
It doesn't bother me too much, but it would drive my wife mad.
With only a single fan, does it have good venting? What of its thermal performance?
Dell has good thermal management.
does the inpiron 16 5620 i5 1240p 16gb get hot and have fan noise issues?
no
Dose it have heating issue ? Dose laptop woks at its full efficiency i.e 100% ?
I didn't have any issues during my testing. Review is here: czcams.com/video/Ng2sH__uGk8/video.html
Does air come out of the laptop from the side/back or bottom?
It draws air from the bottom and blows out on the left side.
Is it possible to install a discrete TPM 2.0 module?
It already supports TPM 2.0
@@BrueComputing It's firmware TPM, not discrete TPM module.
As far as I'm aware that is your only option - there is no provision for a separate TPM 2.0 module.
Is the lid made of aluminum, too?
Lid and palmrest are aluminium, base is plastic.
What can you say about display quality on 5620/5625? I assume it is a TN. And 45% NTSC sounds terrible on a paper. But how it turns out in a real life? Can you confirm it is a TN?
And what I noticed that with i5-1235U there is an option to get 300nit display with "comfortview plus" instead of "comfortview" on amd. Which means screens can be different. And even of a different type. But no guarantees it will be noticeable better.
Or just pay a bit more and get "Lenovo IdeaPad 5 Pro" with IPS and 100% sRGB. IDK.
The panel is a WVA type, not TN. 45% NTSC is ~62% sRGB.
We only get the 250 nit panel on the models here in the UK.
Its ok, but if display quality is your priority it sounds like the Lenovo might be a better choice.
@@BrueComputing WVA is just a wide-view-angle short name. It is not the type of the panel. Unfortunately. So it is most likely a TN.
Dell say that their WVA panels aren't TN panels.
There is a 100%srgb and model available in Canada.

Need a full review of Inspiron 16 5620 i3 12th gen with 8/512 gb please 🙏 it's a request please get the review ASAP
I have a review of the Inspiron 16 5620 here: czcams.com/video/Ng2sH__uGk8/video.html
This is the same spec, only with the i5-1235U as opposed to the i3 - Dell don't offer the i3 model here in the UK.
@@BrueComputing Alright Thanks Man 👍 love your work keep up the good work your doing, it really helps alot of people like me.
Cheers and thanks for watching!
Hey there, what's the maximum ram you can add?
2 x 16GB will definitely work. 2 x 32GB should as well, but can't guarantee it.
@@BrueComputing Sweet, thanks for the swift response!
No worries, have a good day.
Can it be upgraded from 2*8gb to 2*16gb ram
Yes.
Now, how to get the windows 11 on the new hard drive?
Either clone it across with an application like Acronis True Image/Cyber Protect Home or clean install it from USB.
Max ram support 16 or 32 gb ?
2 x 16GB modules should work absolutely fine - you may even find 2 x 32GB modules work.
I use Crucial DDR4-3200 modules (Amazon Affiliates link): amzn.to/3zYSttV
Great video but could we still use the ddr5. I know it’s with ddr4.
The newer 5630 model uses DDR5 RAM.
DDR5 has a different pin layout than previous generations so the answer is no
@@fancypants5782 thank you bud
Does it handle casual gaming
Yes, I look at gaming vs. Ryzen 5 5625U here: czcams.com/video/-IdrXfoGBik/video.html
Can i upgrade ram upto 32 gb?
2 x 16GB should work just fine, DDR4-3200 CL22 modules (Amazon Affiliates link): amzn.to/3y05T7z
@@BrueComputing thanks
Nice
Thanks!
Any gpu slot??
Does it have only one SSD slot?looks like this question has already been answered. What a crappy laptop, 16 inches and one ssd slot. Bullocks
