My headcanon will forever be that the marines malevolent are a ultramarine successor chapter that got disowned because of their specialization in traitor legion tactics.

They go out of their way to kill allies because they believe that those that don't fight also don't deserve to live. The Night Lords are all monsters, but they aren't exactly known for being teamkillers (during the Great Crusade).

    • @raeishimura
      @raeishimura Před měsícem +16

Maybe, but during the crusade, that horror led to planets surrendering before a single shot was fired. The Night Lords basically had the lowest kill count during the crusade because everyone was too afraid to fight and risk them being unleashed on them. their methods were brutal, savage and horrific, but Konrad had a saying. "Kill a thousand men and they will hate you. Kill a million men and they will queue to face you. but kill a single man and they will see monsters and devils in every shadow. Kill a dozen men and they will scream and wail in the night, and they shall feel not hatred, but fear" They purposely killed only as much as they needed to during the Crusade because of this. they didn't want resistance. they didn't want people to rally against them. they wanted fear. The Marines Malevolent don't care. They are happy to just rack up a body count, and even kill their allies. I'd say the malevolent are worse

@@raeishimura They are necessary in the end though imo. They are basically the poster boys of "this is the worst we got", but they also do their jobs, right? There are effective ways to utilise warmongering psychopaths, and at the end of the day, if chaos takes hold, you need an unrestrained measure to take care of it. Idk much about them, but I can see why they are tolerated and allowed to exist, even if they may seem like deranged Iron Warriors.
Every colony needs a lazy ant, and in this case, every faction needs their nutjobs.
I mean, they've got no defects, but they seem like Blood Angels experiencing the Red Rage, the main difference is that they don't kill their own chapter's forces, just everything else?
Idk, I kinda like them for being brutal and realistic, and their methods, although cruel, seem justified. They also seem like a good choice to take on the Dark Eldar imo, and they'd really piss the Tau off, so it's a win win for mankind, provided you can get the meatshields out of their way before they start torching the place.

They sure do. If the Lamensters get punished for siding with the wrong side. The Marine Malevolent can get shafted by the Inquisition for killing and destroying essential Inquisition assets. In truth, the majority of the Inquisition couldn't care less about civilian lives. What pisses them off if some disrespectful Astartes Chapter is rampaging through a world, without proper communication and disregarding collateral damage. Destroying several spy networks, infrastructure, raiding weapon caches, killing cells and agents. Ruining decade long secret operations the Inquisition has set up there.

One out of 10K+ men are capable of becoming Marine recruits. One out of 20+ recruits will become aspirants. One in five aspirants will live to become full Marines.
Yet they should die for capable men/women that are unwilling to fight for themselves? The Marines Malevolent did not abandon fighting men. They disregarded those *not* defending their planet.
As far as honor goes ...
It was a Black Templar that stabbed a Malevolent in the back. This happened *after* the Malevolent risked his life to fight with the Templar against an Ork Warlord. The Templar was mad that the Malevolent won an honor duel against the Templar's Sergeant.

I think the Marines Malevolent are actually from the 2nd/11th, more specifically, from the Rainbow warriors. Them, alongside the deathstrike marines, have more or less the exact same emblem (thunder with a wing), and they are possibly also related to the sons of Malice.
By the few lore there is, they always universally hate their own origins (RW and DS hate the ultramarines or iron fists, the sons of Malice hate the imperium, all of them disregard human life/have been punished by the inquisition).
Something tells me the 11th was truly freaking insane and they all have a very brutally cynic and warrior-like way of thinking.

Oh c'mon! Don't treat my boys like that! 😂
In a exclusively ironical way, they are my favourite Imperialist force because they are, in my opinion, what the Imperium really are: an oppressive ruleship that disregard human lives completely, seeing its citizens as slaves only that should obey and die - FOR THE EMPEROR!
If some paid attention to my interventions here and there in WH40K, it become quite clear that I abhor as much as I can The Imperium - with and, specially, without The Emperor. And It really makes me distraught when I see people that seriously justifies its atrocities committted by any excuses like "The Ruinous Powers are worst!", "The Ethereals that rule the T'au Empire do the same!", "Orkz are barbarian beasts", "Necron Lords also enslaves their subjects!", "Aeldari/Drukhari gave birth to Slaanesh due their debauchery!", "Tyranids are going to eat us all!" (I am very sorry for them...) All true! There are no good guys in WH40K right? (except Farsight Enclaves - yet) Does that excuse The Imperium? Hell no! There is no excuse, for instance, when the Inquisition makes on purpose a whole planet suffer a Genestealer infection just to study it and, then, employ the "Exterminatus solution" to clean up their own mess! Or when people are kidnapped to become Eversors and if they don't succeed or don't accept they are killed! Some people say that we should, seriously, root for The Imperium because they are humans like us. Well, that is EXACTLY why I oppose so firmly, as a mere WH40K enjoyer, against it! Or, to be more specific: I oppose The Imperium as a whole because its inhumanity is exactly what mankind should avoid, by any ETHICAL means necessary, to become!
But what about The Marine Malevolents in all that? Well, it is because they are so explicitly, err, MALEVOLENTS (duh!) that NO ONE makes any apology on behalf of them! And, paradoxically, that is the "beauty" in them: given that no one will justify any of their horrible (although efficient) deeds, no one will try to treat them seriously! As such, they are simply be approached - and used in pur tabletop game - as a sarcastic joke! You know what else used to be a sarcastic joke? WARHAMMER 40.000! They are like The Noise Marines: they are SO OVER THE TOP that people just deal with them to have fun! You know what else, at the end of the day, was supposed to be something to have fun mainly? WARHAMMER 40.000!
I don't know if I'm being succesful to convey what I am trying to say, but I try with other words: with all their hideousness, not only The Marine Malevolents are the true embodiment of the Imperium but, paradoxically, of what WH40K used to be: an over the top HOBBY ONLY where you can have a blast playing with absolute assholes (sorry)! Because that is JUST an innocent escapism and you, as a player, is mature enough to know that you will never become nor you don't want to become such an asshole, right? If you see them with such a view, you will realize that there is even a "pure integrity" in them: by no one justifying them, they are somehow more "ethical" than the likes of Black Templars or Grey Knights, for instance.
Oh, and the "worst chapter"? Minotaurs, Death Soectres, Red Scorpions and Iron Hands (which is one of the original legions, but you get my point) are WAY worst! Minotaurs serve ONLY The Higher Lords and they slaughtered, more than once, our beloved Lamenters; Death Spectres capture women to use them a "breeding machines" until they die (and people complain with the Iron Warrios and the Daemonculaba); Red Scorpions are so intolerant against anything that is "not human" that they persecute Ogryn; Iron Hands allow people to get raided by Drukhari to "cull the herd" and only get those with strenght that survive! Marine Malevolents "only" use people as shield to better defeat orkz. That is nothing! 😂
Truly, they are a blessing in disguise by our glorious God Emperor of Mankind! 😊
    Great video, as usual!

So, I have a fan character who is a night lord, but where other night lords seek to instill fear through typical means he seeks to instill fear through brutal efficiency. His approach consists of killing and leaving without a trace without torturing or leaving any messages in fact he makes a point of killing someone so quickly and efficiently they wouldn't realize their dead till they are. Naturally, he is renowned by his peers for his incredible speed and shunned for his abnormally kind disposition for a night lord. He often operates alone due to this leading him to travel to a planet removing targets often those in charge causing better rulers to take their place. Most of the time they don't even realize its the doing of a night lord let alone him specifically though he has been found out often when other space marines are involved, but never caught and only discovered when he wants to be. When he is confronted though he proves himself a super natural duelist a blur even to the likes of duelist like Cato Secarious. This is further improved by his inheritance of his primarch's gift of future sight letting him see the future. Strangely he also possesses a loose friendship with the likes of Fabious Bile and Arumen often engaging with them intellectually providing them a second opinion on matters. He would eventually get picked up by a rogue traitor who made note of his odd behavior, and decided to employ him. He would later find himself in the company of the black legion, and even the person guard of an inquisitor though he refused to remove his night lord iconography on principle much to the frustration of his peers.

The marines malevolent are so isolated and distanced from the loyalists that their closest of kin are the sisters of battle by happens chance of the results of their results are.

The Iron Warriors hard carried the crusade and then the civil war. Purterabo’ turn was only second to Magnus’s in terms of being justified.

    • @andrewbyrne2173

If Perterabo had spoken up about how unhappy he was, and tried to remedy that, and not made a massacre on his home world, which included his own adopted sister, then maybe yes.
Magus turning was entirely his own fault for looking at a decision, and jumping on the one with the worst possible outcome.

Next video will probably be about the Thousand Sons and let me tell you I have some controversial opinions about them, to say to least. I wouldn't say they were justified at all. Nikaea was entirely on them and half the reason the Emperor is stuck on the throne is because of Magnus.

    • @mikewaterfield3599

@@RedHierophant23 Hubris has it’s price. Nikea was about appeasing Mortarion, Russ, and Dorn. Big E designed Magnus to be a warp entity.
Time and again he coddled Lorgar. Horus practically got hourly affirmation. Was the Cyclops arrogant? To be sure. All the Primarchs were except maybe Vulkan. Nope, if it were me I’d have been planning fratricide before the “council” was even over. With the ultimate hypocrites Mortarion and Russ being targets one and alpha. Still, no one got treated like a door mat quite like Purturabo. Did he exterminate his home world? Sure! So what? The emo nuked the world deliverance orbited and big E cheered him on. Big E is like one of those atrocious parents who acts shocked when their kid turns into a violent sociopath. Does it justify the kids actions? Eeh no. It does explain why though. Besides, if I knew nothing else about the Iron lord, he finally put Fulgrim in his place and gave him the long over due @$s whooping he deserved. After all, he was the one holding the hammer!

'Sister Astartes Chapters'. mmhmm. With SGI/DEI/bowing to Blackrock that sort of stuff becomes very noticeable now- Brother Chapters is the proper reference, I won't dislike the Vid or block the Channel, but you did lose a like. Thank GW for that, I would never have nit-picked that without GW's bent knee.
