- In today’s episode of Tackle Guru’s, The Fishing Gurus Podcast is match fishing and angling legend, Tommy Pickering.
Tommy has obtained considerable success at the highest level of the sport. In 1989, he was crowned individual world champion and he has also won team gold medals with the England float team.
He has also led England to multiple world championship victories as a manager, as he found gold medal success managing the England women’s team and the England feeder team.
The former world champion is also the author of the brilliant fishing publication, Born To Win. This book is a must-read for any angler looking to gain an insight into one of the most inspiring, influential, and interesting individuals to ever partake in match fishing.

Well Tommy I never thought I would would watch a video for for 4.090 hour's and no body is actually fishing in it ,ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT total respect bud , and that is from a Lancastrian.

I remember him coming to my junior club to do talks/presentations for the kids, which is over 25 years ago. Legend of a man!

Thoroughly enjoyed that. First encountered the (then) Tricast Barnsley Blacks in 1986 on the Klavarlen River, in Karlstad, Sweden, on a WL final. The ferry from Harwich to Gothenburg was a hoot, learning (by watching) how to play poker.The fishing was incredible. The country was amazing. The weather was scorching (June). Got one of Tommy's purple Connoisseur Waggler Specials., and will never sell it. Watched the first 2h12m not signed in, so that's a "view". Watched the rest when signed in, so that's another "view". Commented.....POSITIVELY. Thankyou Matt, Toby, Guru, and Tommy.

I still use Toms stick floats. He used to bring me casters when we fished the Twyford midweek matches in the 80's. Great fella,lost his phone number like a fool. Would love a chat with him !

Tommy Pickering what a man, what a legend. I could listen to him for hours he is an inspiration and driving force in angling and life. I first heard of tommy when i was collecting The Art of Fishing and read his article fishing Fleets dam and ive followed him since. Keep up the outstanding work and where can i get a copy of Born to Win

There is no doubt Tommy Pickering is a match fishing legend whose name has not dimmed or diminished in statue from the Barnsley blacks days through all of the changes of our sport to today... one man whose name I think has diminished through no fault of his own through the ages is Dave Thomas who won the world title on the Avon in the 80s ,,, it was the images of him running his float through in front of what seemed to me was thousands of spectators that sparked my little mind into wanting to be like him one day, not to fish for England or win the world title but just to be good enough one day to get the chance to fish for a crowd like that ... I would love the chance for him to go back there again for 5 hours while thousands of us clap and cheer his every fish into the net ... id pay to go and watch that and so would your CZcams audience .
