  • ** UPDATE **
    Well after more testing, it looks like the Arcade1UP Tron has a fixed rotation speed. So it does not matter what we set out PCB too, rotation is limited to the same. The At-Games Legend series however can take advantage of this new PCB .
    Today we will look at a new replacement GRS Button Hole and GRS Button Hole Push/Pull Spiner PCB to change rotation sensitivity for At-Games Coin-Ops and Arcade 1 UP Tron.

      Glen just watching your demonstration on the A1up Tron I can already see a noticeable difference with the spinner versus mine. You also did not think there was an issue with the spinner’s sensitivity as it seemed just fine to your liking but I can see the difference just watching the video so I will be very happy to get this for my A1up Tron.

    This is great news and what i needed to hear to purchase the push same pull spinner for my a1u tron, which has a dead factory spinner and they have no idea when that might become available. Thanks for the follow up.

    Glen is everyone's hero.
    As noted later in the video, it is a ver 2.5 firmware change. Change from 1440/720/360 to a 720/360/180 option (extra LSR bitwise shift to right or /2). It is the easiest and simplest fix for average Joe customer. I know there are people that can't screw in a light bulb. Glen is a generous supporter of the hobby. It is the right choice.
    It appears to be an ATtiny micro-controller which requires extra hardware to flash the MCU chip and there is a would've, could've solution to add header/short-pins to allow SPI ISP Programming. However, the light bulb case, KISS KISS (Keep It Simple St*p*d).
    Glen at GRS is the best!

      I noticed thumbnail (& fuzzy handholds) a 's'-stickerd chip. That is more likely the micro-controller next to 4 test points. Maybe a double MCU, the Halls effect sensor has 16 pins & flush to spinning magnet.

    we need a spinner replacement for the tempest lagacy cabinet. You can clean and lube the OEM, to improve ie, but a better quality replacement would be better

      Arcade 1up decided to block my spinners and "borrow" it's design..again poorly....tempest gate.. They are using some custom signals. We have not been able to figure it out ..also I know others are trying to figure this out .. as soon as we know it we will support it.

    Glen thank you so much for offering this. I have been waiting for this solution for my A1up Tron for over a year now. I did not want to go back to the stock spinner. You are the Man! Do you have to re-calibrate in the Windows app? Also I really want to know how you did the LED lights on your spinner. Would love a lighting kit option made available for this.

    Thats nice and all... But.. Were the actual arcade machines spinner sensitivities, "measured" ? You could, for example.. have someone place an erasable mark on their Arcade Machines Spinner, and turn it slowly, while recording the amount the characters rotated... so that you get a very close approximation to the original sensitivity. And or, for example... see how much rotation is required for Trons arm to move from Noon to Noon. Or how far the Disc of Tron cursor moves, from x amount of degrees of rotation.
    Another potential option, is to have an Adjustable Sensitivity... via a toggle button(s). Sort of like how you can change modern Mice DPI settings... but Instead, it might cycle through arcade accurate sensitivities for each specific spinner / optical steering wheel game. Of course, most emulators have sensitivity settings... allowing you to adjust them, as you please. The problem with this... is that Mame itself... likely has no real frame of Reference, for its sensitivity defaults (and it doesnt know, nor measure, what spinner / controller you are using). Devs are likely just putting values that seem Decent, for their own mice / controllers. And Users are doing the same... adjusting to what seems to feel decent. This is bothersome, because its not Arcade Accurate... and people in the present and future, should be able to experience these games as Accurately as they were, in the actual Arcades.
    It would be great, if actual rotational measurements would be able to be Collected, so that people knew the correct amount of spinner movement, per character rotation / degree. To do this, would likely require a simple printout of a Protractor, that could be slipped under and centered on the spinner shaft. Square it with the monitor / control panel edge, tape it down, ...then place a tiny marking on the top of the spinner (which could be done on top of masking tape). Using a wide angle lens might be able to capture the monitor + spinner... at the same time... but, an angled mini-mirror (in front of the spinner), or dual cameras.. might be needed for "accurate" recordings of both the monitor, and the spinner.
    If people know that 15 degree = one tick of Trons arm... Or that one rotation of the spinner, should rotate the arm from noon to noon... then people would be able to adjust their settings to duplicate the same results, with their chosen controller + knob diameter + shaft diameter...etc.
    Of course, this not only applies to mere spinner games... but also to "360 degree steering wheel games" ,like Sega's "Turbo", or Atari's "Pole Position" or "Super Sprint". Those ALL used extremely high gearing rations, for extreme resolution control dynamics.... which gave you much greater levels of control... as well as a lot more challenge in knowing how many rotations to spin, and when best to stop spinning. Each arcade Optical Geared steering wheel, tended to be Unique hardware. There was no standard gearing / mechanics... So... Pole Position's wheel uses completely different gearing than Turbo's gearing (Pole Position used only two gears, where as Turbo used several gears).
    Now, the thing is... If the Spinner doesnt have enough sensitivity... it cant replicate such high gearing resolution, as found from the original Arkanoid Spinner (which as like 10 gears on it), nor a high resolution Steering Wheel gearing. At the same time... if a spinner is too sensitive for a low resolution game... it will not control nor function properly. It can even "Glitch"... from getting too many pulses per unit of time... causing the character to stutter and or reverse rotational directions. But, with a high resolution spinner... and adjustable Sensitivity settings... you should be able to replicate any required resolution / sensitivity.

      Nope. They were not. The spinners are multicade spinners designed to play generally good on as many hnits as possible with highest quality components at as low a price point as possible for people to enjoy 😊
      In the future anything is possible

    • @catsbutthole
      @catsbutthole Před 6 měsíci

      you can hardware id lock devices in mame. so you can setup profiles for specific spinners. it's how you make sure specific controllers get a specific player position. ex: player 1 or player 2 when connecting your devices.

    • @johndough8115
      @johndough8115 Před 6 měsíci

      @@catsbutthole Its extremely Unrealistic to Own multiple spinners that use completely different optical disc diameters / hole counts. Especially since there are so many different Steering wheel assemblies, that also would needed to be added to the Mix.
      Furthermore, there are also issues with knowing if the Operating systems (Polling Rates + Acceleration Values, and more), and , and the emulation sensitivity settings, themselves... are Arcade accurate... as Ive described before.
      This is why arcade controls need a much greater levels of documentation. Least all of these machines, are never able to be played at their CORRECT HISTORICAL difficulty levels... and the correct controller feel.

    • @catsbutthole
      @catsbutthole Před 6 měsíci

      im just talking about setting up profiles for yourself. with the specific hardware id. so that you can do the things you said mame doesnt do, which it does.@@johndough8115

      Sadly, they are not from upgradable, but we want to give an option to people want it. You don't have to purchase them. We're going to make them. It's inexpensive as possible as always, but these would require parts of a different board for this feature
