- ** Special thanks to my friend Michelle for helping me through the entire process via FaceTime!! Love you!!
Hi guys!
Yes, this look really only cost me $20... Well, $21... But still!!
Everything was purchased from Sally's Beauty Supply including the coloring bowl and application brush. (The paddle brush was an old one I already owned)
As you can see this was super easy (and fun!) and wayyy better than spending hundreds of dollars at a salon only to end up hating what they do!! Hope you liked this video, don't forget to give it a thumbs up and SUBSCRIBE to see more!!

so, my daughter asked me if we can get her hair balayaged. there is no way I could afford it. I thought it'd be worth looking into doing myself. we saw many video's and by far this was the best! super easy and end result looks professional.. thanks for the video
Monica Gabino Have you tried it? and if so how did it turn out?
who's here cause of corona and they're bored
Genuinely
Me😂 and I’m doing this today
Tanima Pannu im doing it on thursday lmaoo
jayla subida yeeee
God I thought I was the only one. Did anyone here already use L'Oreal Colorista Balayage? I bought it,but I'm scared of making shit...well at least I'll be at home :)
I did this at home and it turned out amazing!!! I just saved myself over $300, and I even got it done sooner than sitting for 5 hours at the salon! Plus, with the pandemic I didn't want to wait next year to get my hair done. I was so intimidated watching other CZcams videos on DIY balayage, but you make the process so much simpler. Thank you!!!
If I want my color burgundy would I get a burgundy toner?
INCREDIBLE, my girlfriend followed every step and it came out great!! She said thank you!
Patrick Gilmore so sweet 😊
T14 is great, but I recommend Wella's T18 Lightest Ash Blonde. It lifts lighter than the T14. Just in case anyone is reading and wants to go very light.
Definitely Not Angelina Jolie excuseme and how often do i have to apply it?
Thank you! :)
I know this is a very late comment but in case anyone comes across it, I would actually respectfully disagree :) t18 only really works on level 9, very light bleached hair, kind of the colour of inside of a banana. Using t18 on hair this dark won’t really do much at all :)
astera22 lol Litterally i was like should I let them know that toner doesn’t lift , it only deposits
toner doesn’t lift the hair it just tones the color to the preferred nuance but it can’t make your hair lighter. T18 is for lighter blond and if you don’t have a level 9/10 blond it won’t do anything for you
AH I was cringing the whole time, i'm so happy it turned out nice! As a Balayage specialist it's super hard to watch "DIY balayage" videos but you were smart by only getting 20 volume, with it processing in open air 20 volume just lifts super subtle instead of getting "blonde" results. And thankfully you were still blending after you brushed it through. Unfortunately for my clients I get the not so lucky DIY disasters of orange, splotchy lines >.< If anyone decides to do this PLEASE only attempt a SUBTLE look with a few lighter pieces, (also don't try this if you have box color on your hair) and hopefully you won't end up at a salon afterwards that turns a balayage from $150 to a $400 color correction.
PREACH! Even though I just finished school for hairstyling I cringe as well, but I also get a lot of these videos in my recommendations so i watch them all the time😂
I was just going to say, if this goes wrong color correction runs about 80-150 and hour in my salon. it was SOO hard to watch. It actually turned out really well! I'm impressed!!
What would happen if you try this with a box color??
+marlalovesu the problem with box color is it is all different. You don't know what's in it and it's usually very strong and to remove it is difficult. When adding bleach/Lightner it usually turns out a weird brassy orange, OR the hair can turn totally black due to multiple chemicals in your hair. Box dye is just too risky and I think sally offers non box dye and developers at a cheaper cost. As well as application bottles if you're not comfortable with a color brush
+Chanise Elston I box died my hair a while back to brown because I used to die my hair red and I just wanted it to be brown again. I want to get this done will it still be okay? I'm pretty sure most of my box color has already faded
I love the placement, came out very nicely! Wanted to give you a quick tip; the Wella T14 toner is too light so it doens't really do anything; if you use a toner that is more suitable to your color level it'll give you better results! Also: if you use only 20 volume you can leave it in your hair a bit longer to pull some more orange tones out. Just cover it with cling film so it doesn't dry. I learned this from Guy Tang and it works amazingly.
+Mara B How do you know what toner is suitable to your color? thx
+Mara B Wow thank you!! The lady at Sally's suggested T14 because it was the coolest toned toner. What color would you suggest for dark brown hair? Guy Tang is a god!!
Picking the best toner depends on the color level of your highlights, just google "hair color levels" and you can estimate what your level is. The T14 "pale ash blonde" is very nice, but will only work properly on very light hair. You can always mix toners like T14 or T18 with a darker toner. Also there's a Wella product called 050, which is just a violet toned additive wich you can put with a toner for dark blonde hair. Personally I've also used hair color with a 10 or even 5 volume developer as a toner. I suggest you mix and match! And youtube as always will gives loads of suggestions.
Thanks so much!! I'm definitely going to take your advice!!
Love guy tang
GIRL YA MAKING ME REGRET MY $300+ BALAYAGE
Linda B for real. So much money I've spent on my hair and I could probably do it myself
Linda B lol srry the ones at my hair salon are like 60 - 120 dollars
Linda B
380$
That's why I want to do this at home and keep that 300 dollars in my pocket.
Your hair came out pretty darn good girl!!! I'm a cosmetologist, so I'm sure you can imagine my anxiety watching this. I'm seriously impressed!
Hi, I just wanted to thank you so much for sharing this, I did it this Saturday, just as you said followed exactly, and omg it came out just like yours which I totally loved, I went out today and all my friends where telling me how beautiful it looked and they all thought I paid top dollar for it lol, they knew it was a balayage right away, the only thing is here in Houston I only payed $13 at sallys for the items you said to buy so it was even cheaper, again thank you so much
the face you made when you brushed it though the first time, hahahaha like "can't go back now"
I liked 2 mins. into the video for the facial expressions! hahaha
Lol
this is basically the best diy balayage i've seen today. and i've been binge watching diy videos for hours now lol
Just did this at home, my hair looks amazing and it only costed me $18
Thank youuuuu!
How did you do it? Please reply
Thanks for this! I'm broke at the moment and wanted to lighten up my blonde hair with a subtle balayage so used this method with a tangle teezer. Looks great and natural and saved me a ton of money. Really easy method to follow
You're really pretty , I can't stop noticing that lol
THANK YOU! xoxo
Fight
Devanie Freitas yes u r right..she is pretty...
lmao seriously. can't even focus on her hair cuz im like omg her eyebrows...lashes...eyes...teeth...skin...GODDDD she's so pretty lol
Right!? She looks like Emmy rossum to me. Pretty as can be! Thanks for showing how to get the look.
I watched your video years ago to do my Balayage! It came out great! Now doing it again after watching same video!!! ❤️❤️
OMG. I'm so glad I watched this before I went to the salon, thank you soooo much. This made me have more confidence in me doing it myself.
This is like the best video ever! Seriously, professionals can't even make it look like that dad to say I've always gone to hair salon spent $180 four time and they suck. This is so much better.
Sad*
Tried this and it turned out so beautiful! No one can believe that I did it myself! It's about time to do it again so I had to watch and get a refresher course. Thank you for posting
Hi I’m glad it came out great! Quick question, you used all the products even the toner? Because I’m thinking of trying it tomorrow ! 😳
I followed this for the first time and I WAS SUPER NERVOUS but it turned out super good and it’s easy for anyone to try out!
I have a feeling you are going to become one of my new favorites, please make more videos! I just finished watching you DIY baliyage and I think I'm going to go for it, wish me luck omg! xoxo
I will be honest, I have watched over a thousand videos on beauty/hair, and you stand out from all of them. You are so genuine, so real! I feel a beautiful, caring, funny soul behind this video. I can't wait to try this tomorrow, I will be writing on my blog and I will definitely link you to it.
Followed this video exactly, my hair turned out beautiful! Thanks girl, you’re the real mvp 🥰
Try using a 5 volume developer for toning. 20 volume is used to cover grey hair. The cuticle is already open from the bleach, you just need a 5 volume with toner to gloss over and seal the color in. I am a licensed cosmetologist, hope this helps! One love
Thank you for this, it was obvious that you were aware of the risk of it being a major failure but it looked amazing and is very helpful. I was really blown away at how it turned out at the end, I could never have considered that technique to provide results like that. I'm going to give it a try tonight, so wish me luck. I really hope it turns out as good for me.
How did it turn out?? Thinking of giving this a go!
+Luna L. I guess it didn't turn out well, so she didn't reply..
LMAO☺ She's bald now.
Sage Mirei x
Been researching soooo many balayage videos while in quarantine. Today is my day, can’t wait for the results, your tutorial seems like the EASIEST! Thanks for sharing!
Love this! I did balayage blonde years ago with similar technique, only coming through color with a wide toothed comb. This makes me miss my blond hair!
Fantastic result! My stylist herself cancelled my balayage consultation a week before the lockdown was even announced! (Draw your own conclusions from that! But hence she will no longer be my stylist!- end of story!) I wouldn't want to try this single handed, but my late mom in law was a fantastic colour tech and stylist, so luckily the hubs has a few skills - he wasn't keen on trying this but now ive made him watcha few of these vids... 👍👍👍 we're on! 😉
*happy dance* 😃
Literally the first video that’s made me feel ballsy enough to just go and do it!! Thank god for you!!🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽😂😍
LOVE THIS!! I cut my own hair and did my own ombre a few years back but i was hesitant about doing a balayge myself but YOU JUST GAVE ME THE MOTIVATION.
I used this technique and it was amazing. My hair looks soo pretty. Moreover it's my first time. This is the best video out there. I ended up saving a tonne of money
I love her. She's so real and pure in her video.
I watched a lot of videos on balayage but yours makes the most sense. Thank you! The result is stunning and so natural 😁
I'm gonna try this! Thanks for the tip about the toner. I wouldn't think to pick a cool tone when I'm going for warm highlights, so I'm glad you explained that. Great job!
Your friend is so cute “it’s gonna look fucking good” 😂😂😂 love it
did this to my boyfriend's older sister and it turned out extremely beautiful! Extremely easy, just split into many layers. once the bleach was taken out and there was some warmer tones to the blonde the toner pulled those warm orangish blonde colors right out in less then 10 minutes! obsessed with the turnout!
Love it. So natural! Thought about getting it professionally done. But I’ll be risking by it by following your tips.
omg the results are actually perfect. it's more natural than how a salon would actually do it! so subtle, i love it!! this vid is great and so informative, thank u so much for sharing, i will def be trying this out
I just did this on my mom and it came out looking AMAZING! I can't wait to do it on myself now!
I have only one thing to say. IT WORKSSSSSSS SOOOO GREATTTTT. thanks girl you made me take the risk and its the best risk ever. I colored my hair for the first time in my life and im so glad I watched your video. Thank youuu so muchhh. Im in love with my hair.
Wow you did such an amazing job, it looks so natural and perfect! I'm tired of paying $200+ for mine so I'm def trying this when its time to retouch! Thanks for the tutorial!
Hi, just searching along day how i can balayage my hair at home for the first time, and suddenly found your trick!
I would say thank you, my curly hair is pretty gorgeous right now!!
Ps : I use garnier golden brown only, suprisingly the tricks works too!
Yea, that turned out perfectly! I'm totally going to try the method and products you used. This video is exactly what I was looking for - seems super easy to follow. Good job!!
As a licensed cosmetologist, the first thing that was listed in our beauty school textbooks, is that you have the client remove their jewelry before performing any chemical service. The chemicals can react with the jewelry and cause a reaction on a person's skin. Also, 2 other things. If a person can't work with bleach fast, they will end up streaks, banding, and possible hair breakage. Toners and bleach timing also aren't one size fits all. Bleaching can take several tries and lots of hrs to get to the achieved look. A person also has to take into account underlying pigment and what is brought out during bleaching(which includes a person's natural underlying pigment and if a person has loads of boxed color on their ends that causes excesses brassiness, etc.) So no one should just go out buy a toner assuming they know what the underlying problem tone is going to be ahead of time.
Looks so nice! Thanks for sharing especially for dark hair!!
I got a box of dye specifically for highlighting hair it came with a brush to comb the bleach like you're doing. It's trial and error. I was extremely carful and I ended up with a patchiness. I don't think anyone should expect to get professional looking results from a DIY job. I think as long as person is dying their hair with realistic expectations they won't be so disappointed
This ws the best tutorial so far!! Unprofessionals like me can relate to it .. Thankyou.. ♡
Literally the MOST natural balayage ever ! So happy for you
the easiest balayage tutorial I've watched.. will definitely do this "AT MY OWN RISK". good job girl!! it looked fucking good like what your friend said. Thumbs up!
Ive searched so many videos and you explained and did it do simple!! Come this summer im doing it! Thank you❤️
This is such a great step-by-step video. You did amazing thank you so much. Even the paddle brush idea. And saturating the bottom and the cohesiveness across the back. It came out super cute super! I love it! Thanks so much.
Your Ego I agree!
I couldn't BELIEVE that turned out so well! Youre You're a natural talent
Oh my goodness! Where was this when I was dying my hair months ago?! This is exactly what I needed. Thanks for doing a tutorial for us dark haired girls! Will definitely be doing this to get the perfect summer hair 😊♥️
+Camille Darrell Yay glad you liked it!! xoxo
So I just tried this. I’ve never done anything like this before. I live how it turned out. Thank you so much 😊
Girl you made me nervous, had to fast forward to see end results. Nice job!!!! thanks for giving me the courage to try! you're a doll👧
Thank you so much for posting and explaining it so simple and clear! I followed your steps and got the perfect chocolate subtle balayage to my black hair🙏🏽😍😘 Im so happy!! Wish i could post a picture of the results!!!
I just dyed my hair following your tutorial and it turned great!! Thanks 😊
Do u have black hair? I have black hair and am scared to try
Thanks so much for these tips, especially about how you divided your hair at tops of ears, then eyebrows. I’m trying this this weekend.
Beautiful job!! You were very brave! Beauty is all about experimenting and having fun. I'm going to try this method -- I hope it turns out as nice as yours did!
I'm so gladddd I found your video!!!! I've been wanting balayge for months now but since I have super dark hair I'm scared I'll mess it up and I don't trust salons😂 I will be using your technique thank you for this video!!!
Flor Jimenez how’d it go?
12:16 I was so impressed that my eyebrows flew up and my jaw dropped 😂
I tried this technique yesterday using a highlight kit. It worked, although I didn't have quite as nice results as you did. Maybe I just needed to take a little more time. It looks pretty good, though, for only $11! Thanks for the video!
Omggg girllllll! You just made me feel more comfortable to try to do this at home!! Super easy to follow LOVE IT !!!
Update I followed all of your steps except the developer I got 40 and a different brand. But it did lighten up my hair and the toner worked amazing. Thank you so much. I saved alot of money and maybe if I do it again I can go lighter. But get it to look more blended. Thanks. And I definitely recommend everyone to go ahead and try this. It was literally under 20$.
Incredible, I love how your hair color turned out
I'm in the toning stage right now.. and I think its going to be amazing!!!
I'm back after 2 years and doing it again on short hair! It DID turn out amazing 2 years ago. LOVE it!
Just signed cause you are perfect! Best tutorial for brushlights ever. Me and my money thank you 😂
Attempting to try this now...nervous but I've watched your video sooooo many times and I'm dying to try it myself! Hoping it turns out as good as yours!
I actually tried this and it turned out great!
Thanks for the video girl :)
Thank you for the natural lighting pictures. It gave me a better idea of what your technique could do for my hair:)
Amazing! Great job! Love the " Nerves kicked in" Part!
Thank you really much ❤️
I tried it today. But i had to bleach it 2 times cause after the first try you couldn’t see much of a difference. Maybe because my hair was really dark. But after the 2 tries it looks great 🥰
I'm so excited to try this! That technique looks awesome, I've never seen it before!
OMG That is awesome.! I have watched many vids of DIY balayage and highlights and you are the best! You are naturally pretty, fun to watch, you don't have some crazy music playing, you aren't doing that- I'm a Barbie girl in a Barbie world- Look at me... I'm so stupid. There are some I almost dialed 911....what is your emergency, Um, well there is this girl on CZcams and um...I think she is having a seizure. Well, seriously i enjoyed watching and your hair turned out so natural looking. This is down on my bucket list.
This is exactly what I was looking for... thank you! It looks amazing!
wow! This is exactly what I am trying to do. Thanks! Can't believe you did this yourself at home and for so cheap
I'm glad your results were nice. As a 20 year hairdresser and hair color educator, I was very nervous about your results.
Did all of this to a friend's hair today and it turned out perfect. She has a darker dirty blond hair. The 8A work really great as well!
Honestly this inspired me I wanna do this and my mom said sure so I think I'm going to give it a try today. ✨ but I love it it looks great
Mariah Laijas how did it work? I have curly hair also and just stumbled upon this video and I noticed you did too so your results would be interesting for me to know if this would work well for our hair type :-) thanks 🙏🏽.
Followed your technique a month a ago and it came out great. Tried it again today and it came out even better. Thank you!!!
This is really, really good! I've always been super scared to do my hair at home but I also don't want to spend a ton of money at a salon. You make it look easy and it turned out SO good!
+chellefish Thank you! I'm so happy I did it myself!
This looks awesome!! Looks like you spent a lot of time at the beach, love this look
this is irrelevant but your glasses are so cute on you!
+Dani Lastname Thank you!! xoxo
+Dani Lastname They're Liz Claiborne!
I'm a stylist however I haven't done highlights in years and needed some reminder tips. I wanted to do my daughter hair. Thanks for the you tube.
Looks gorgeous 👍 just how i dye my hair too and am glad to see others do the same with success as home dyeing can be pot luck lol
Wow it looks great! Very nice color on you!
I used this video 3 years ago and I'm back again lololol, probably the easiest and cheapest balayage (ombre?) video I can find
Wow! You did such a GORGEOUS job! Nice choice on the cool toner...i did a coppery toner and it's a bit red for my tastes. Would love to hear how the health of your hair is holding up in a few months. By the way you are adorable in glasses!
You have exactly the color I want in my hair !!! I wanna try it :)
This is so cool!!!! I'm legit trying this out tomorrow because I have an ash blonde kit laying around. Gonna be extra careful and I have some money saved to go to a salon if anything lol
I was scared for you too 😂. Looks really natural!
You did such an awesome job. I’m looking into hair color videos to do myself. I’m so glad I saw yours. Great info. I’m going to Sallys beauty store today 6/21/18. And doing it myself. I called the salons and they’re charging me $260. I’m like no way.
I like to know how much we’re the products you bough more or less. I do have a budge. Good thing for me is I have shoulder length hair not too long. But when I’m finished I would love to share my picture to you. I’ll let you know.
I did this. I. Love. It. Thank you for this video!
i have been thinking about to do it myself but i hadn't found a really good tutorial... I looove the technique you used... and the color it's amaizing... I have a dark hair color like yours
Loved this!! Super easy to follow! I'm totally going to Sally's tomorrow!
