I just bought your course and now this happens 🙄😶🤦♀️
Knowing what you know now, If you were starting over with 0 IT knowledge and 0 IT experience, which WGU degree would you go for first?
You referenced a podcast , can you share the title again
Hi Josh, your content has been very helpful! I really want to take your course but I am struggling a bit rn, just wondering if you have sales on your course at any point I can keep an eye out for. thanks again!

"Just keep studying" 100%. I know a few people that get stuck > become doomers > and then stop trying. Gotta keep studying and improving/adapting
Glad to hear that. Good to know I am not the only one who thinks this way.
That's the best advice I could give someone who wants to be in Cyber Security. You must have the mindset of always wanting to improve and learn. Just because you land the job doesn't mean you can take it easy and coast. There's always gonna be new problems, unknowns, and technology to figure out. The question I always ask at the end of interviews is, "What kind of qualities are you looking for in a ideal candidate?" Every hiring manager wanted someone who is tenacious, won't give up, wants to learn, and is curious. They can teach the skills and tools, they can't teach the mindset.
I see that you gotta have a passion for it.
Sure, if you enjoy it learn more, however not everyone should be required to have a CEH to work a helpdesk job.
Lost my IT Support job the end of March with the DoD during probationary period. Had a super toxic supervisor and things just didn't pan out. I am now using my VA benefits to go to WGU for Cyber Security which I'm super pumped about. I've taken the last 2 months to work on my professional development and was able to clear the Network+ which completes the CompTIA trifecta for me and gives me a huge head start in my degree program. The job market sucks right now but at least I have the time and resources to change my circumstances.
After being laid off in March, I just landed a Jr Security Analyst role. This competitive market is crazy!
Advice plz

Great vid Josh! Working on the BSITM right now and followed all your resources for the past year or so. Thoughts on the MS in Cyber from WGU?
CyberSec is alive and well in DoD and Government, and those jobs cant be outsourced due to national security issues.
Thanks for this video. I was working on my software dev degree but the current job prospects had me a little demoralized.

Hey great video @JoshMadakor what source did you use for collecting the data for certification holders ?
I am currently in wgu cybersecurity, i plan to be done by late august/early September of next year. I plan to finish the courses with the entry level comptia certs(A,Net,sec) close to the end of the year I plan to find and help desk job/entry level i.t job because I feel like getting basic i.t experience while doing to degree/certs will make finding a cybersecurity job must easier. The part where people forget is getting an entry level job while doing the degree.
Good plan. I start WGU July 1st.
Help desk can suck 😹
That was my first job after finishing WGU cyber degree and the contract was up they asked if I wanted to extend and I said no
Start applying now. Or when you get you a+. You’ll learn so much and have people to help you. I’ve been in helpdesk a couple years and doing WGU.
same thats what i plan to do as well
How does WGU work? Wanna start it? We gotta take math classes etc etc? Or is it just focused on getting cyber certs
Can you do a similar video with cloud computing via WGU, current/future Job market, employment etc
Thanks!

Did you already finish your B.S. in Comp Science to land the internship? I'm half way through my Comp Science B.S. and haven't had much luck landing an internship just yet.
Interesting.
I have a background in UX. Signing up for WGU July for IT Accellerated bachelors. Hopefully a degree will open the doors to more opportunities
Hey Josh, I am from Melbourne Australia. I have been following you for a while now. I was wondering that Is there any chance of Australian passport holder can apply a Cyber security job in the US?
Thanks man. Looking forward to starting at WGU for my bscsia in a couple months
Hey Josh - longshot but wanted to ask for an opinion. Currently studying cyber at WGU but I do have a previous BA in history. I was finally able to land a help desk role that isn’t the traditional help desk but allows me to gain technical experience (support with our applications, setting up/disabling users). My financial aid is about to run out and will be forced to pay out of pocket. Finding a hard time feeling like I should pay out of pocket especially since I already have a degree in a different field and was able to pivot into this field just based off having the A+ certification. Just wondering if I should just focus on gaining skills in this position or if I should continue with this degree.
So many companies filing chapter 11 and cutting their ops, networking, and support branches in the coming months.
May need to sign up for your service!
Had to google chapter 11, haha. Thanks for considering me :)
Would love to hear your thoughts regarding this on the other IT WGU degrees!

Hey Josh, for someone with no IT experience and a non-technical degree, would you advise them to take your course careers IT course or your cyber course if they have hopes of working in cloud engineering long term? Basically which course would equip a newbie with the best cloud skills in your opinion?
damn alright ive been fence sitting on WGU for a while but looks like its time to do it
should I take the main cybersecurity course or network engineering & security?
i eventually want to get into security engineering and programming to but theres not really a cleaar path to that
Great video and thanks for the info. I work in law enforcement and have a bachelors degree in criminal justice. I’m interested in doing the masters program for Cyber and making a career change. Do I need a background in IT to do the masters in cyber? I was also considering doing your it course then cyber course. I’m not sure the path I should take?
I don't think you need a background, honestly; you could piggyback into some digital forensics role or something and be just fine. transfer in all your gen eds and whatnot into WGU, then take the actual important parts of the curriculum, and you'll be good.
Hello, I am currently about to take network+ and I was planning to do the google cyber course and then move on to security+ and after this do your cyber course. Is this a good plan? Should do things differently?

i have years of IT experience and my security+, ive only gotten maybe 2 inteviews from hundreds of applications. what would you suggest for someone in my situation
I went through tech school and got a job in help desk. I received my security plus and tried to move into cyber security after 2 years. I'm unable to get a job in that market. I'm thinking of joining the airforce for schooling and job experience in cyber security. If I'm not wrong it will also give me security clearance for some of the higher paying jobs later in life.
Just keep in mind that the GI Bill, which pays for the majority of your school, is unlocked based on how many "active duty" days you've done. In total, it takes 1080 active duty days to unlock 100% of your GI Bill. Aside from that, they offer 4500 a year for tuition assistance. This is something I wish my recruiter would have told me back when I joined.
Military is having the same issue for those roles. Dont do it.
Have you thought about moving to another city? You can also search for Managed Security Service Providers and see if any are hiring in your area.
@@Elkington7 I thought a stint in the Armed forces was 4 years anyway?
@@lancebenson4891omg really??? Was thinking about AF
I think with all things the industry you're applying for matters a lot when it comes to competitive market. A lot of people want to work for big tech but you won't find a lot of people relative to big tech applying to smaller firms or companies in completely different industries like hospitality or industrial for instance.
I 100% agree with this. Ppl panicking when google fires a bunch of people, but all of those people aren't going to start applying to entry-level help desk positions. If they were previously making 200k+, they will sooner be jobless for half a year haha
So im in WGU and im studying for A+. It is hard. I make good money rn and im happy with my current job, i dont want to quit and take a lower pay and become unhappy at a help desk, but i need the hard skills and ive never been great at IT. What do i do?
I think the IT jobs are still out there. Just a matter of more of lower pay, higher "skill" requests, and back to hybrid/on-site roles are more prevalent now. I was a young adult from 2008-2012 and this is nothing in comparison. MCSE System Engineers, CCNA Network Engineers were taking anything full-time with benefits Service Desk tier 1.
Yep people are myopic and don't realize how bad 2008 was

Hey Josh. I’m left the military and I have no experience in the cybersecurity or IT. Is WGU a good option for me? It’s self paced and all online. Would other schools with a teacher be better?
In my market, personally having manager, director, analyst titles...not a single staffing agency, recruiter or employer will offer you a Helpdesk job...no matter how long you have been unemployed or if you tell them you want to grow in a lower position.
March? That site says 85% now?
Hey Josh, do you offer payment options for your course.
I used to! But I’m pretty sure ppl were abusing it so we stopped. I’m gonna open a community in the next few weeks that will be cheaper and it will contain an enterprise vulnerability management platform you can use and practice with (as well as a course, of course!)
One thing to note, saying tech layoff is like saying trade job layoff..considering that salesmen (majority of the tech layoff) work in tech and are not programmers or engineers.
Can you do cloud computing next?
I will add this to the production list! Thank you :)
Another thing to remember not all of those jobs are tech jobless. HR are amongst the first to go in layoffs that and other nonessential roles.
Great point!
Too many publicity about cyber shortage and companies not willing to hire nor invest in the roles leaves a very competitive job market even for experienced professionals. If you’re not already invested, go a different path because cybersecurity is a cost and not profit and will always be fluctuation.
Look into government openings
I’m so scared to start. I have no computer skills and will be completely new to the field of IT. @@TheITCornerbyJR Don't know what's the difference but to just get a cybersecurity job with them after finishing my bachelor if i cant find a regular one in my city because of having no experience and competitive market/layoff? is like going active duty? because active duties usually are for 4 years if i am not mistaken can you tell difference between both?
Knowing what you know now, If you were starting over with 0 IT knowledge and 0 IT experience, which WGU degree would you go for first?
Do you suggest finding a recruiter? How do you find one ?
You just apply for jobs, and then they'll contact you eventually. If you are T1, they don't have a lot of incentive to work with you, so don't expect too much. But I did find a couple interested in helping me.
Make a really good resume (docs.google.com/document/d/1ujvucyzkbUGpqj9tOtXueljOx3QvIMc3pl_TePnwrsE/edit) and fill out the following as well as you can:
LinkedIn, Indeed, ZipRecruiter, Monster, Dice
This will make the recruiters comes to you like the other comment said.
Then you can basically search for recruiters on LinkedIn, but it can be kind of hard to get them to reply.
But filling out all the profiles will at least let them find you. Please make your resume good though, like fudge it a bit if you have to, just make sure you can perform :)

That "school" is a diploma mill.
One aspect of college is proving you can make a commitment. Getting a bacjelors in a year destroys that commitment. No, WGU is not worth it when enough people (managers, HR, etc) like me feels it is a diploma mill. They need to stop advertising how easy it is to get a diploma. Those hiring managers are seeing that as well.
It's not at all a Diploma mill.
I work in Higher Education, and even in HU we do not consider it a Diploma mill, and lots of Faculty and Staff at Traditionals hold WGU degrees.
How is an accredited institution a diploma mill? The vast majority of what we learn in college we end up forgetting in the long run anyway. We go to college to learn HOW to learn. Everything else we need, we learn on the job. Most degrees (with the exception of some fields like healthcare) should not take four years to complete
If you think WGU is a diploma mill. You’re just clueless. You walk out with tons of industry certifications that are difficult to get. O way around that but competency and hard work.
Yup, I struck a nerve. The industry certs are great but the diploma is less of a commitment than a traditional college. Employers see less commitment. Troll me all you want but your feelings are not more important than my facts.
@@ScottPlude It's not less commitment, you are just speaking nonsense and showing you are clearly clueless.
The WGU degrees require the same amount of coursework and standards as a 4yr degree. The fact you can study 80 hours a week instead of 20, is why it can be achieved faster.
Thinking doing something MORE everyday, and thus finishing faster overall is less commitment is flat out ignorant.
Add in the fact, that WGUs Cyber degree has literally won awards and has partnerships with the US Government and is endorsed by the NSA.
