    The hollow in the heel is simply a material saver. Having worked in plastics for years, I see it a lot. Typically material cost for rubber and/or plastic is about 35% of sales price, so anything to reduce amount of material used is critical for profitability.

    Having owned both cemented rubber soled dress shoes and leather soled dress shoes, I can strongly state my preference for leather soles due to the added stiffness and durability. But those dense soles didn't look too shabby, nice find.

    Great video I get my shoes for around the $150 to $200 mark and they've lasted me nearly five years now I think its safe to say for anything under $100 you just can't get much in the way of quality but there are shoes out there for around the $200 mark, even a little cheaper

    I've built up a very nice wardrobe over time by always searching for deals. End of season clearance, holidays, etc. I don't have any very expensive clothes, but I have clothes and shows of respectable quality that I've gotten for much cheaper prices. Best deal I ever got was a $150 pair of Chukka boots on Black Friday for $12.50. Still some of my favorite boots to this day because they look great and they're incredibly comfortable.

    Uk, i remember my first pair of dress shoes. Wolverine Worldwide Black Oxfords, got them brand new in box about 10 years ago for my ROTC class in HS from my Teacher. I shined them well, and took decent care of them. I would wear them for uniform days, parades, and then after High School, any time i needed to wear a suit. My only regret? Not using a Shoe Tree to store them and avoid massive creasing, which over time affected the pair. Theyre still wearable but are creased to hell and i am now looking to buy a new pair, preferably from the same manufacturer.

    Well, this time i have to disagree Antonio 😅 there's no way i would buy a cemented dress shoes anymore.. I had bad experiences (yes, plural!) with them 🙃
    Perhaps it's just my bad luck, but i used to have 2 pairs of cemented shoes (a blue suede penny loafers, and a black cap toe oxford) which cost me around that price point (i'm an indonesian, they cost 1.100.000 and 1.300.000 IDR, and based on the exchange rate 2 years ago i believe it's a little under 100 USD)
    It took less than six months for them to practically disintegrate 🙃 the outsole of the oxford got detached from the upper after just 3 months AT MY GRADUATION! I couldn't begin to tell you how embarassed i was, being photographed on the stage with one shoe without an outsole 🙃
    And 2 months later, the outsole of my left penny loafer also got detached from its upper, when i was on my way to a case presentation, so yeah, i once again had to endure the embarassment of presenting my case with a lopsided shoes 😂
    Perhaps it's just me buying an overpriced crap or whatever, but there's no way i'll ever buy a cemented shoes anymore (apart from running shoes ofc). I mean, these days you can get shoes with better construction by spending not so much more money, so why buy a cemented ones? They're unsustainable (since they're not resolable), and (if you're unlucky enough like me) would risk you the embarassment like what i experienced 🙃
    Great video though, cheers!

      @Manuel421 Před 3 lety

      @@RealMenRealStyle Absolutely I agree with you. I think since I still plan for a minimal wardrobe it will be 3 jackets to start off. It can be a solid Navy Blue and the other 2 can be one of the varieties of patterns that you previously discussed. Yeah I fear that a Floral Dress shirt would clash with checks and other patterns on the jackets you discussed so I think what I just explained is the perfect compromise. Who knows maybe instead of Navy I can even find a maroon colored jacket to go with the Floral but that might be too flashy. Great content!

Also my Floral is a darker shade therefore I prefer to wear it during the colder months instead of Hot. I believe a navy or some blue or grey solid would definitely go with it I agree with you.

    Looks like the pair you tried on to review is the dark brown, which starting at 2:17 already has some ugly creasing across the vamp and into the cap toe after what I assume is very minimal wear, given that you mention it was just a week ago that Scarpazzo reached out to you. Even for $100 I would not expect genuine leather (not even corrected grain) to show that manner of creasing, that looks like the creasing I see on PU leather or similar imitation leather after only a few hours of wear. I don't doubt it is real leather as described, but the leather quality is just not apparent, if that's how they look after only hours of wearing I imagine after a couple months of rotation they're going to look hideous.
    Hopefully I'm wrong. The rest of the shoe construction does look durable though, but personally I think that's irrelevant if the leather appearance deteriorates long before the rest of the shoe and they end up unpresentable even for casual wear. I say that from personal experience having thrown out shoes before with 80% life left in the heel and soles, but the uppers looking so unsightly that I can't stand wearing them for anything other than taking out the trash and checking the mail (and yes that's even after consistently using shoe trees).

    I don't see the point. I bought sub 100 dollar shoes for years but a few years ago realized that the quality / price sweet spot is a lot closer to 200.
    A few years back you were recommending one of the brands I settled on, Acemark's. They are solid shoes, made with high quality leather upper and leather sole using a Blake stitch.
    I would destroy the cheaper shoes within a year or two...but a good quality shoe can last for decades.
    I bought 14 pair in different styles , needless to say I'll probably be dead before I wear them all but I don't ever have to worry about buying a new pair of dress shoes!

    But Antonio there are many brands in India that are under 7k (100 $) ,that are stiched ,made of leather, tpr sole(not leather sole), that Last years.
    So why we should pay 14k ,23k(200$,300$)?

      @mnikhk Před 3 lety +1

      Yes there's a price difference he's talking about US prices, you're taking 100$ literally. Think of it in Indian terms as buying a good shoe below 2-3000 Rs. Main thing is pay attention to the quality markers.

    The sad part is how so many men go for the cheapest shoe option, and don't invest in dress shoes as the foundational pieces they are. You can get away with a cheap suit, but EVERYONE looks at your feet: shoes that are glued vs. stitched make the biggest difference. If you invest in $150-$300 shoes just once, they will live beyond you with regular maintenance and resoles. But a cheap suit/slacks + cheap dress shoes mentality = I really don't care about how I look.
