still worth it :D
Who would have guessed lol
You should have shipped your car to the Car Wizard. Guaranteed he would not have charged you that much. Imagine the videos he would be making with your Paris Mercedes. The repairs for this car is the price of a new loaded Camry.
And that's before you've sent samples from the interior to a forensic team.....
Ed is the kind of guy who bought the SLR just to sniff the seats.
Imagine how good an SLR would be with a modern dual clutch transmission and conventional brakes. Anyone got one for sale that was only a little on fire?
Yeah I got 3
LOL.....
Haha! Nice. Hey Freddy. Nice work, by the way. I have noticed a trend here... Every Car Trek so far, you end up with the worst car, Ed ends up with the most valuable car, but with the worst hidden problems, and... Tyler ends up with the most "makes sense" car. Why do you always end up with the short straw? You deserve better, man.

“I just took it for a oil change.” More unsuspecting words have never been spoken.
Several times when I took cars in to the dealership for an oil change, I ended up trading them for a new one. There's a reason they like to keep you sitting in the waiting area... eventually you get bored and wander into the showroom!
@@balesjo what oil does it use? 10W60 perhaps or is there a 'special' MB oil?
Ed is extremely intelligent and well spoken, and quick witted. Same as Tyler. Love to see these two together.
And very handsome
As an automotive technician who used to work at a German car specialist, the amount of supercar markup on these things is next level. You really see it in things like the fluid services. They don’t use really special fluids, but because it’s in an SLR, they is automatically 2000% mark up. Same thing happens even just between the “peasant” MB models, say between a C class and an S class. C class filter may be $50, similar part on S Class is $250.
If some douchebag come into my shop with "CZcams" on the license plate of an SLR I'd be doing the same thing.
I mean people who buy these things have no problem paying for this. Actually I think it would offend them for it to cost just as much as a normal car to service.
2:26 the McLaren wagon is a vibe.
I thought the same thing. We needs some more fast wagons in the world.
Had me dying
@UnnecessaryNoseSwaps
@William Mulvaney I feel like McLaren would send a C&D order if that were attempted. Heck, Pontiac might even be revived just to file a C&D as well.

I saw an SLR McLaren at a Cars & Coffee in LA a couple months ago. It was really cool to see but I didn't realize how temperamental they are. Now I feel it was simply amazing to see one on the road.
Tyler realized quickly in this video how valuable it is to have the Car Wizard in his life after hearing the estimate Ed got from Mercedes.

"You must repair your SLR for less than the price of a new Camry"
Here in ohio we say ope not oop
I love the special effects in the beggining. Genuinely, they made me so happy 😂
I had the very first AMG sold in Mercedes dealerships, the mighty C36. It had something like 270 hp from a naturally aspirated straight six engine and was one of the the fastest sedans on the planet for its time. 0-100 kph in just over 6 seconds and a top speed of 250 kph. It was a nice little sedan, but it just goes to show you how much cars have changed since 1995.
ARE YOU KIDDING??? That's awesome!
My Toyota Avalon has 270 horsepower lol
You know you've done something right in your life when you're able to 'impulsively buy' a broken supercar for $180K...
even with 30K on it it seems 200K is not over the top for what he got. there have been a couple of sales of what I call special interest (Falcon GTHO) cars here in Australia that topped 1million.
These are listed at 300k plus so it’s a good deal
i like how Ed is just throwing figures around and being so calm about it, if a person like us heard 35K to repair our cars the world would have been ending.
The only way you can get ahead is by starting a business. Find something you enjoy doing and always be nice but don’t get stepped on. Never do business in debt.
$35k is what I paid for my whole fleet
Not strange at all considering these types of cars are his business.
You're right about that. And, I'll add that, there's a lot of people who would love just having a $35,000 car.
I have three real deal millionaire friends and they're not extravigant. And it has been neat to be in the rooms when they talk about spending what we would consider ridiculous money. It's neat.
I actually have some history with that car. Paris pulled out of a parking lot in Hollywood, right into the middle of an intersection. She did not have the right of way and everyone, including me had to slam on our breaks. I was PO'd and laid on my horn. The window went down and the skinniest girl I've ever seen all but climbed out the window screaming and flipping me the bird. Whoever she was with pulled her back in and after a few failed attempts she was able to get her car moving and out of the intersection.
She coke raged on you
Did you get her autograph? 😂
Check the joints in the steering shaft. Sometimes they get stiff from sitting and gives you easy/hard/ easy hard when turning in parking lots. Sometimes they work themselves out after driving awhile
The angle adjustments of the SLR McLaren images are amazing
Ah yes, these are great reasons not to buy an SLR.
I think the main reason I won't buy one right now is actually the fact that I am poor.
I was thinking the same thing, I seem to be monetarily challenged at the moment. 🤣🤣😂😂
Get yourself a pair of yellow moccasins first, the rest will follow: the idle lifestyle, Mercedes, Lamborghini...
The main reason for me being that it is ugly as a hillbilly’s asscrack
Even if you're not poor, this car will make you poor.
Think it that way. You save a lot of money by not buying one, now you are rich.
Thanks - you've just made me relax about my parts bill.
Nice Leno tribute with the denim shirt with the pocket flaps!
Ed: "I mean, you can't not buy this."
Me, not rich in any way shape or form: "Yeah, I can. I can totally not buy this. Watch me."
Going by those prices, I wouldn't be at all surprised to get a bill for $10,000 just for walking past it.
hey ... watch me buy it.....

Massive props for being able to do everything at once.
When these were new, I worked for a transport company that had the contract to deliver them to the dealers. One day I was delivering one for a dealer in Ohio and forgot how hard you have to press the brake pedal to get it to stop. They asked me to park it at a particular spot that had a curb. I press the brake pedal to stop normally and the car keeps moving. I finally really got on the brakes and stopped the car within about a 1/2" of the front end hitting the curb. Had to change my shorts after that delivery.
oh my gosh these cut scenes while narration are GENIUS and hilarious
The editing in this video is impeccable

the mclaren mercedes slr has been a dream car of mine since i saw it for the first time on top gear back in 2004 or 2005 was it? dam time flys. i will always remember the track test of this car with the absolutely incredible noise it made and the race to from london to oslo. plus the episode where they raced 5 super cars around the track: audi r8, lamborghini murcielago, ferrari 599, aston martin dbs and this thing it was so cool to see the slr still holding its own with its brutal power vs much newer cars
i keep coming back to the noise of this car i genuinely think its one of the greatest engine noises ive ever heard

I like Tyler’s car more as it is iconic Mercedes , it is the retro throw back ... which makes it my personal favorite
I like the SLS more, too. But the SLR has some retro elements as well. Look at the 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupe.

Not to mention a flood damaged Ferrari
You gotta hand it to him, he's consistent. He's even more under water with the SLR as the Lambos were
The sunshade... LMAO LOVE IT!!!
You have made me appreciate by 2004 Ford Focus even more. Did the Front pads 6 months ago. $50 for the pads. There were almost 40,000 miles on the old ones. The rotors were still good. No need to replace.
The full 100,000 mile service was dome in 2011 at 110,000 miles for $1200 including new full front brakes and all fluids.
I person I know with a 2019 Corvette Sting Ray only spent trice that amount quoted buying the whole car brand new. It is in the shop now for the first non scheduled service from a mega pothole having taken out a tire.
I have always known Mercedes service is expensive but really $100 for a fuel cap tether!

I think it was the commitment to the gag that got me. I chuckled at first but once the camera started changing angles and different pictures that matched the angle appeared I lost it.
Omg 😱 $34,000 holy crap I nearly fell of my chair! I would be lucky to make that in 1 year. That’s insane.
This was absolutely fantastic!
I love how Tavarish and the boys are just casually holding a conversation in the background without being mentioned.
I had a similar feeling of anxiety back in the mid 90s when looking at a used Porsche 928S. I took it for a pre-purchase inspection and went through all the service records to discover horrifying amounts (for me) for basics such as a starter motor at over $900, and other regular servicing items that were eye watering. I was used to buying aftermarket C3 Corvette starters for maybe 60 bucks and DIYing it. There were thousands upon thousands of dollars of service receipts for this 928 and I decided against it, worried for my future financial health and well being. I did eventually own a 928, maybe a decade later, to get it out of my system. Beautiful car and it didn't cost me a dime over the year and a half I owned it.
When you buy a supercar, the shop will be, "pad the bill. They can afford it."
I always loved the SLR back in the day. I'd say SLR exterior and the SLR interior would be the best combo.

That SLR Wagon it’s just… amazing😂😂😂😂
You know, I think I disagree about the 'specialness' of the interior.
I like Hoovies car better, in every single way.
weirdly, the interior of the SLR looks cheaper
The SLR interior is from early-mid 2000s Mercedes which is kind of a dark age in that department.
But I agree, the SLR looks incredibly special when the hood's open, and not so much when it's not.
I agree. I've seen virtually the same colors and better seats in new MINI Cooper's.
Hmmm, always much prefered the SLR over its successor. Nice work Ed

My one contact with an SLR (while visiting Capetown) was that the interior is claustrophobic, thanks mainly to the engine being so far back in the chassis.
