I've never seen a Split Fire splitter before this video, very impressive. However I've had a MTD horizontal / vertical splitter, 20 ton ram and 5 hp Brigs & Stratton engine for over 25 years and have to sing a few of it's praises. At a little over 1k in price it's paid for itself many times over. I'm on my second hydraulic pump and third engine (upgraded to B & S 6.5 I/C) after many hours of use. I've always used the vertical position so I could roll up very large rounds and chip away at it. A good pair of knee pads or a stool works great. I'm 69 and still getting it done. Just sayin'...
Thanks for sharing your experience. I think that's probably pretty similar to my dad's splitter. He has the Huskee with the 6.5 B&S engine. It's been a trooper for sure. He's had to do some work on that engine and some of the splitter components. But all-in-all, he's split a lot of wood with that investment and like you said, it's paid for itself many times over. It's amazing. I did a TON of research before picking a log splitter. They're a big investment for a home owner. And the Split-Fire really impressed me. I didn't see that much content about it online - but was glad to find enough to make an informed decision. Hopefully the content we're making helps others learn about this great machine!

Thanks @Ross On The Land. We're really happy with it. Most of the time we are splitting wood, it's anywhere from 8 inches in diameter to up to around 30 inches. The splitter is doing a great job.

There's actually lots of good things going for that splitter.
Someone else in the comments mentioned the audio. I think what the issue is is that there is an echoey type sound to the video potentially due to being inside and surrounded by hard surfaces. It's just a different sound and doesn't change the content of the video which was quite good.

That is a really nice wood splitter and you did a great job of pointing out all the great benefits of the splitter. I love the ground clearance too, easy to haul through the woods. My question is, with the angled stop how does it do with the crooked cut pieces of wood?
Glad you liked it. I typically find that most of my wood pieces have one "mostly straight" side. That's the end I place against the angled stop. You're correct that if the piece of wood has an angled cut, it can slide off the angled stop (unless you place the angle of the cut perpendicular with the stop).
Same reason I went with Splitfire! Very happy with my 2265.
Good choice! The "little" splitter continues to impress us every time we use it. I can't believe we waited so long to up our splitter game. We've been splitting with box store splitters for over 10 years.

Hi Jack. You'll love the Split-Fire. I've never tried the 3-point version, but I've watched several videos that Split-Fire made about them. As far as shipping, it saves some money if you're willing to drive to a shipping distribution (freight) center. We drove about 45 minutes to a Yellow Freight distribution center to pick up the splitter. That way, Split-Fire was able to ship it to the Yellow Freight center, and it didn't have to switch trucks onto a smaller box truck for delivery to our house. The freight center had a fork lift and was able to help us load it into the back of our truck. You can actually see us loading it in this video: czcams.com/video/Nv3OAZVx7jU/video.html

Hello - not a single negative thing about this splitter. We use it just about every weekend. It's changed how we split firewood because it is SO much faster than anything else we've used.
Looks to be between residential and professional grade, aka pro-sumer class. The hydraulic tank on my $1000 farm store log splitter gets pretty dang hot in the summer. How warm does the hydraulic tank on your splitter get aftrr a cord of wood in the summer?
I am looking at this same issue with lots of splitters as well..
Where Wolfe Ridge or Eastonmade have larger hydraulic tanks for better cooling..
Now there are lots of good points in this splitter so i am by no means knocking it as every piece of equipment has there target use..
@@DanielAtkinsFirewood, it has a place among log splitters. It fits nicely between the Wolfe Ridge and Eastonmade splitters and the farm store splitters are we use. Daniel, from watching your videos, an Eastonmade with a box wedge might be perfect for you with all those big rounds you split.
@Homestead Fabricator - I haven't noticed that the tank gets warm - but I've not run the splitter for more than an hour at a time. I'll pay closer attention to that as we do more splitting.
That's true. What happens if the hydraulic fluid or tank does get too warm?
@@PurpleCollarLife, it starts puking fluid out the tank pressure vent. Not much, but enough to make it dirty. Other fluid life is shortened. The cylinder gets hot enough in the summer to possibly burn you if hold your hend on it long enough.
One question.. since the rod side of the piston has a smaller surface area = less pressure.. do you notice any difference in the power between stroke directions. Return stroke should actually be a bit stronger..
Great question - I've not noticed any difference in power between the forward stroke and the return stroke. But the next time I have a really nasty piece, I'll try to pay close attention to the sound of the engine and the speed of the blade movement to see if I notice a difference between the stokes.
i have the same unit but for a 3point tractor hitch that runs off tractor hydraulics. it does have noticeably less power on the return stroke. in some elm iv had to remove and split on the push stroke.
I don't like to be critical but - reading your thoughts and opinions directly from their brochure was kind of cheesy. But super glad you are happy with the Split Fire!
Fair enough. When it came to the safety and engineering statements, I wanted to make sure I didn't misspeak or misrepresent something. All 5 points I outline certainly were the key factors in my decision - some of those points aren't even mentioned in any Split-Fire literature. But when it came to making any safety claims or engineering claims, I didn't want to use any words they didn't say in their documentation.
Sometimes being a CZcams creator (even though we all say that our videos are only for entertainment purposes) is worrying about saying something that could put us at risk of liability concerns. Making claims about safety (even though I totally believe them to be true) are best left to the wording of the manufacturer.
Hopefully this helps explain why I used their wording for some of the points I wanted to explain as part of the reasons we chose this splitter.

I gave up after 2 minutes due to sub-standard quality audio.
Marc - thanks for letting me know. I've checked the audio levels and they seem okay. What were you hearing? Was the audio too quiet? Was there background noise in the video? Please let me know what the sub-standard quality audio was so that I can see if I can fix it either in this video or in future videos.
I would never buy a splitter with split rail design. I seen way to much stuff get stuck in their cause all kinds of problems. If I had a choice of engine Honda would not be my first choice. That is a old Yamaha engine design and Honda never changed it since. Most other companies have surpassed that design now.. Honda was never the best motor out there, They are the most advertise engine and for a time they were selling them cheaper then any of the really good motor. Now they live by name only..
So far, our splitter design has performed flawlessly. And that Honda engine is amazing (in our experience). I actually opted to add this Optional Honda engine instead of the standard engine.
