wondering where all those screenshots are saved: I am assuming that they are cut in pieces and tokenized and stored in the ssd, so we can expect more file systems full from now on? I would not be surprised if they did not test the impact of the data collected on the ssd space consumption...

I've been running LLM's locally on my PC for awhile now, but this newest tech sounds exciting. I preordered an AI + Copilot PC before coming here. A few things I would like to note with respect to security concerns is that a user can turn off wifi and / or ethernet and the neural element will still process AI tasks locally, as well as being able to toggle what get's snapshotted and you can always delete memories....with this in mind, I tend to not call Recall as "Microsoft" taking screenshots, but as My Computer taking screenshots, as Recall will function without ever being connected. Of course the elements that require cloud services is another story. The part that has me a little peeved is my $8000 desktop with dual RTX4090's seemingly having no place in the newer AI ecosystem and it's only months old. It's blazing at handling local LLM's up to 70B parameters, but that is hardly impressive given MS's announcement yesterday, and leaves people in my position wondering if we have to wait out a desktop OpenAI or, like my wasteful self can be, preordering another PC, though to be honest i don't REALLY consider it to be a waste as i'm dying to see the performance and battery life on a snapdragon elite and the gpu power of their Snapdragon's Adreno. Sorry for the wall of text

My major concern with this screenshot thing is password and credentials safety, I work as DevOps , big part of my job is to deal with apps and user credentials, if the model is not trained to not take screenshots of these, Copilot can be be biggest security threat in modern personal computing, I will wait reviews to see how safe it is

Will be a long and stony way until they can compete with Apple. CPU performance comparable to the entry or mid range Apple Silicon, GPU far far behind. Translation layer has to proof if it can hold up with Rosetta 2. At least a good and important step forward to switch from x86 to ARM but without serious iGPU not more than a battery saving data collecting device. No option for me.

I was an Apple fanboy for years, but I'm slowly pulling away from the brand. They are too expensive, and they are not innovative at the HW or SW layer anymore. Multiple vendors making chips for MS ARM based systems means more money and innovation. Apple has plenty of cash and smart people, but they are not led by folks with the passion Jobs had anymore. I see the excitement happening on the Windows side now. It will be fun to watch.

I love your enthusiam about tech, while keeping your opinion covert about this topic, but leaving some hints. This announcement makes me think that, Apple will be the one that stands for privacy and takes the opportunity to repackage everything to be the one perceived as the "good" one on the side of the consumer. After all, it's them who once used a parody of 84.

@@TiffInTech oh I love these new PC's that are coming out, Intel and AMD are also rolling out their AI chips too, so that will change things. I study semiconductor and chip manufacturing so I keep my eyes on all things AI and computer hardware, from memory to GPU, CPU and now NPU, also the quantum computers, so now that everything we use on a computer is in some way connected to a AI chip, it is really starting to revolutionize the whole purpose of computing...so as some people see it as a bad thing, I am really excited to see how much AI can do for us and will do for us now.
