A recent recording from a new project years in the making, SHEDSOUNDS is the latest project helmed by Ian Beabout and Derek Pavlic. SHEDSOUNDS are out to continue the concept of the 'orchestral rock band,' fusing hard rock and bluesy guitar riffs with flute, viola and glockenspiel with unusual song structures.
Two mixes of these pieces were created, one in stereo that was mastered conventionally, and a separate multi channel Dolby Atmos mix which will be available on streaming shortly. :-)
NOTES ABOUT AMBIENT 1 "STALKER"
I screened the film "Stalker" for Derek Pavlic before we started working on the song in earnest, and one creeping realization I had was that our song "Andrei Tarkovsky" had little to do with the actual score or musical palette of his films.
So I conceived on this ambient piece, which was composed much in the same way as Tangerine Dream's work in the 70s. I sat up my microKorg mini synth and mic'd up Derek's amp and we jammed ! The best bits seemed to happen in the last 4 mins or so, so later I created a flute part which is loosely based on the Robert Fripp soundscape idea of crafting a melody around 3-5 notes.
At one point I'd even considered editing it into the main piece but in the end felt it maybe works better as a 'companion' piece since its such different stylistically. It's maybe a little bit unfinished, only 3 real instruments here, but I felt even in its current state it was a good 'B side' for the Tarkovsky single.
